The NRM government has already set aside Shs1,000 billion for the Operation Wealth Creation programme to ensure that the 68 percent of Ugandans who are still in subsistence farming join the money economy.
This was revealed yesterday by President Yoweri Museveni while addressing a gathering at Isingiro District Headquarters during celebrations to mark the World Population Day.
The President said the funds will enable government provide planting materials like coffee, cocoa and tea to homesteads that have land. He added that with majority of Ugandans employed in the agricultural sector, the move will enable the country achieve middle income status since the NRM has already laid a strong foundation for Uganda.
