The Sokol SK-1 suit was worn by Yuri Gagarin during the first flight to orbit the Earth, on April 12, 1961. It was fully pressurized and had connectors for a life support system. (I'm pretty sure this is a Sokol SK-1 suit, not the actual suit Gagarin wore!)
I was bemused by the lace-up boots. I can only assume they have airtight lining.
This exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum is titled "Apollo: When We Went to the Moon", but it includes the historical background of the space program (starting with the Cold War) and also contains items from the Soviet space program.

El Museo Guggenheim ha jugado un papel fundamental en la transformación y revitalización urbana de la zona donde se sitúa, además de convertirse en el símbolo de la ciudad de Bilbao y en un foco de atracción, impulsando el turismo y causado un extraordinario impacto en la economía y la sociedad vasca, fenómeno que se ha dado en llamar “efecto Guggenheim”. Es uno de los cinco museos que la Fundación Solomon R. Guggenheim tiene repartidos por todo el mundo. Se ubica a orillas de la ría de Bilbao, en una zona denominada Abandoibarra, junto al puente de La Salve, abrazado en parte por el edificio. Inicialmente se propuso rehabilitar la Alhóndiga municipal, para albergar el museo, pero a raíz del concurso organizado en 1990 con la participación de Isozaki, Coop Himmelb(l)au, y Gehry, del que salió elegido este último arquitecto, se recoge su propuesta para la realización de un edificio de nueva planta a emplazar en una vieja zona industrial junto a la ría .
Su volumetría curvilínea y su recubrimiento de piedra caliza, cortinas de cristal y planchas de titanio la dan un aspecto singular y simbólico, dentro de la corriente arquitectónica que se ha dado en llamar deconstructivismo. Se puede considerar una escultura, una obra de arte en sí mismo. La estructura principal está radicalmente esculpida siguiendo contornos casi orgánicos, sin contener una sola superficie plana. Las formas no tienen ninguna razón geométrica ni se rigen por ninguna ley. Una serie de volúmenes interconectados, unos de forma ortogonal recubiertos de piedra y otros de forma orgánica cubiertos por una piel metálica de titanio, unidos por una piel de vidrio. El edificio visto desde la ría aparenta la forma de un barco en recuerdo de la zona industrial portuaria en la que se sitúa. Sus paneles brillantes de titanio se asemejan a las escamas de un pez. Su planta presenta la forma de una flor. Para el diseño el equipo de Gehry utilizó simulaciones por ordenador de las estructuras necesarias para sustentar el edificio. A la trama del ensanche bilbaíno presenta una escala menor, revestimiento de caliza y ventanas con formas más racionales para integrarse con un entorno de edificios más tradicionales, formando una pequeña plaza que conduce a la entrada principal del edificio, y en este espacio abierto se encuentra la escultura Puppy de Jeff Koons, un gigantesco perro hecho de flores naturales.
La estructura, de vigas metálicas, forma cuadrículas con triangulaciones que permiten la realización de las distintas formas que componen el edificio. Cada pieza del revestimiento exterior de titanio tiene una forma única y exclusiva al lugar que ocupa, determinada por el programa informático generador. Dentro del aparente desorden de la envolvente, existe un patrón que rige la volumetría.
Su superficie es de 24.000 m² de los que 11.000 están reservados a las 19 galerías de exposición de obras de arte contemporáneo pertenecientes a la colección de la fundación Guggenheim, además de exposiciones itinerantes. Funcionalmente se articula en torno a un eje central, el hall de 50 metros de alto, un monumental espacio vacío coronado por una cúpula metálica. En torno a él, un sistema de pasarelas curvas, ascensores acristalados y torres de escaleras conectan las 19 galerías distribuidas en tres plantas, combinando espacios rectangulares con otros de proporciones y formas singulares, todos iluminados cenitalmente. Las exposiciones temporales y las obras de gran formato tienen cabida en la Gran Sala, también llamada Sala del Pez, de unos 30 m. de ancho y casi 130 m. de largo, libre de columnas, ubicada en el volumen que pasa bajo el puente La Salve, adaptándose a él.
En su fachada hacia la ría se contempla la silueta de la araña gigante “Mamá”, una escultura de bronce, acero y mármol obra de la artista Louise Bourgeois.
Durante su construcción, recibió numerosas críticas desde diferentes sectores de la cultura vasca. Jorge Oteiza lo llamó "Fábrica de quesos", y juró que mientras viviese no permitiría que ninguna de sus obras fuese expuesta allí; si bien una vez construido el museo dijo que "había que aprovechar lo que ya había" y permitió la exposición de sus obras. Se ha criticado también al edificio por su elevado coste y el carácter casi experimental de muchas de las innovaciones que se hicieron en su construcción, que han hecho más caro y difícil su limpieza y mantenimiento, por humedades u oxidación del titanio. La mayoría de las críticas se vieron mitigadas por el éxito que el edificio a nivel mundial, siendo un foco de atracción para la ciudad y una positiva proyección de la imagen de Bilbao a nivel internacional. Para el arquitecto Philip Johnson se trata del edificio más grande de nuestros tiempos.

There are 6 area officers and 1 WEP coordinator for the implementing and monitoring of the adult literacy program.
As a gesture of appreciation Pervaiz Lodhie President and founder LEDtronics Inc. offered a special gift of a Solar Powered LED Solar Light to the 316 student and 7 program officers.
Funding for the solar lights was provided by one of gentleman from USA. His name is not mentioned here on his advice.
First distribution ceremony was held on Thursday October 12, 2017 in Shaleemabad, Achaar Khaskeli & Shanti Nagar ALCs located in Tando Allahyar districts.
Lt. Gen (Retd.) Syed Perwaiz Shahid a renowned educationist was chief guest for the event.
Ms. Lillian Charles Program Manager PEP and other team members from PEP were present in the event.
During the ceremony 72 female students received solar lanterns. PEP will organize another event in Hyderabad for the distribution of remaining solar lights in November 2017.

Women Empowerment groups were started in 2013 in all the PEP schools. The ideas was to provide awareness to women regarding their rights, responsibilities, savings, and issues such as early marriage. These women were provided training on building low cost washroom and they were also provided training on how to save their families during severe floods. At present PEP has 67 groups in total. Each group has a group of 10 females.
In 2016 , on the request of women, adult literacy course is introduced to the women. Project aimed at 5 centres in 2016 but 27 centre were started in 2016. they women were provide free books and no fee was charged from them. A mobilizer from the same village taught these classes.. They course is designed for one year as it is a weekly class.
In 2017 , PEP introduced a centre where women can learn from android tablets. PEP has designed three grade applications in Sindhi on tablets which are useful for these women. They can use those applications and hear sounds and can read the sentences and stories.
Now women are able to read and write sentences. Instead of thumb print they can write their names. They developed their confidence and able to perform theater on sensitive issues. Some of the theatre performances are uploaded on PEP website.
PEP is reaching out to the marginalized communities with a hope of educating them and making them effective citizen of our country.
PEP requested you to distribute these light as a token of thanks and as a resource for them so they can use it in the night too. They are thankful for all the encouragement that you have provided to them.

On January 30, 2019, City of Laredo Municipal Court Judge Jesus M. Dominguez announced the First Amnesty Program allowing citizens to clear their outstanding warrant and traffic violations. Judge Dominguez is offering the amnesty program from February 19, 2019 through March 8, 2019. This includes all cases pending, capias warrants, arrest warrants, capias pro-fines, and DPS Omni warrants.
Municipal Court clerks are available to help the public with any information they may need. Individuals that would like to know the total amount of fines due before the amnesty program begins may visit the court, located at 4610 Maher Avenue. Individuals with outstanding warrants that appear for court will not be arrested. In order to qualify for this program and possibly be cleared of the outstanding debt, individuals must be prepared to pay at least half of the amount of their outstanding fine. However, final determination of the amount to be paid is on a case-by-case basis as decided by Judge Dominguez.
It is very important that the public take advantage of the amnesty program. Municipal Court does have a warrant division that issues and executes warrants on a daily basis; therefore, it is always best that individuals visit the court and take care of their outstanding cases.
Reminder to all, Municipal Court holds court sessions twice a day, morning and afternoon. Individuals that would like to take care of their outstanding cases may appear for court between 8am - 9am for the morning session, or between 12pm – 1pm for the afternoon session.

The Fall 2010 Student Hackathon brought in hundreds of students from 30 universities to NYU's Courant Institute for 24 hours of creative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.
Selected startups presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, and students formed groups to brainstorm and begin coding on their ideas. Many students worked into the night, foregoing sleep to fulfill their visions.
On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel, which selected the final winners.
hackNY hosts hackathons one each semester, as well as a Summer Fellows Program, which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment, a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student are expected to compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup.

The week-long camp brought 31 children together to encourage physical activity, making healthy choices, and foster peer interactions.
"Camp Guard Youth" is a yearly health and wellness program open to dependents of Georgia National Guard, Air Force Reserve and Dept. of Defense employees.

When we started the program nearly a decade ago, we had no idea the demand would continue – much less grow! More and more educational and arts organizations are adding a film component to their photography courses, and the FPP is here for them. In 2024 alone, we’ve supplied over 300 working vintage cameras to High School, College and Arts Programs photography programs including Pickerington High School Central Ohio / California High School in San Ramon CA, Columbia University / BIPA grant program in NYC, ProPhound Kids Inc., RVCC Arts and Desgin in Branchburg NJ, Edgerton Jr. Sr. High School in Edgerton OH, Southeastern School District in Chillicothe OH and Woodrow Wilson High School in Los Angeles CA among others. During a Native American history-themed sleepover at the National Archives in Washington, DC, 101 kids and their grown-ups spent the night enjoying history-related activities, learning from special guests actor Martin Sensmeier, Jim Thorpe historians Bob Wheeler and Flo Ridlon, and Native American storyteller Perry Ground. After sleeping over night in the Rotunda, participants enjoyed a pancake breakfast made by the Archivist of the United States, David S. Ferriero, on October 14, 2018.
As Chernobyl Children International has worked in Chernobyl affected regions over the past 20 years, we’ve seen first hand the medical, economic and social devastation suffered by individuals, families and communities as a result of the disaster.
Our Community Care program provides at home care for severely disabled children. Many of these children were placed on waiting lists for orphanages and institutions by desperate parents who had no where else to turn. We provide professional services such as speech and language therapists, physical therapists, and psychologists.
Hospice Care programs, such as one might find in Ireland and the USA, are in very early stages of development in Belarus. Working in close collaboration with local organizations such as Gomel Hospice Care, our Hospice Care programme helps families care for their terminally ill children in the dignity and comfort of their own homes.
The children served by our Hospice and Community Care programmes are in urgent need of financial sponsorship.

Photos from the 2010 Techno Teens video gaming program held at Robert Morris University in downtown Pittsburgh. The purpose is to teach minority and at risk youth the basics of computer programming and expose them to STEM careers through the use of video game development. The program is in partnership with the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh and used Wild Pockets as the development platform.

A great time was had by all -- and Belle Glade, Glades View, Lincoln & Pleasant City Elementary Schools, plus the Head Start program of Boynton Beach, each received six huge waist-high boxes filled to the brim with vitally needed classroom school supplies, thanks to the DEC's Third Annual Picnic to Benefit PBC Schoolchildren at John Prince Park on Sunday, August 12th, 2007.
Approximately 750 Democrats braved the August heat for a fun afternoon to benefit area schools, plus meet and greet the many elected officials and candidates who came out to support the day. Adult attendees enjoyed great cookout fare and an afternoon of schmoozing with fellow Dems, while kids had fun with the bounce house, face painting, and demonstrations from the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office Fingerprint, Canine & Mounted units.
Many elected officials who joined the festivities included State Sen. Dave Aronberg; State Reps. Susan Bucher, Richard Machek, Kelly Skidmore & Shelly Vana; Supervisor of Elections Dr. Arthur Anderson, Clerk & Comptroller Sharon Bock; Sheriff Ric Bradshaw; County Comm. Addie Greene; WPB Mayor Lois Frankel; Wellington Vice Mayor Bob Margolis; Belle Glade City Comm. Ray Sanchez; PBC School Board Member Paulette Burdick; and Port Commissioner Dr. Jean Enright. Many candidates running for state house seats and other local offices also mixed and mingled with the appreciative crowd.
Special thanks to the dedicated members of the Precinct Coordinating, Young Democrats, and VOICE Committees who volunteered as Event Staff. Appreciation also goes to Sheriff Ric Bradshaw who supported the event with a large donation of back-to-school supplies from the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office, as well as to Murray Kalish & the United South County Democratic Club, and to the United Federation of Teachers for their respective generous contributions of supplies. Thanks also to Lesley Shriberg, Aide to Sheriff Bradshaw for her assistance; to the great Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputies who provided us with traffic control; and to Deputy Debra Hill who coordinated the "guest appearances" of Clue, one of the great dogs from the PBSO Canine Unit and Max, one of the best members of the PBSO Mounted Unit, along with their great Sgts. Deputy Hill worked alongside Asst Volunteer Coordinator Adele Abbot and the dedicated volunteers who manned the information and Fingerprint Kit table. Kudos to all!
The entire chicken, hamburger and hot dog barbecue was underwritten by donations to the party. Thanks to the generosity of all Dems who supported the event, 36 large cardboard boxes were filled with crayons, pens and pencils, paper, notepads, glue, books, backpacks, calculators and many other crucially needed classroom items which will be put to immediate use by PBC schoolchildren in our five designated schools.
Machele Martin, a special-needs counselor at Belle Glade Elementary School, who accepted the donations on behalf of her school, stressed that the donation of a few dollars can mean a great deal to students whose families cannot afford to provide them with even basic school supplies. Sometimes, she said, a new notebook or backpack is all it takes to change a child's attitude about school. "If your basic needs aren't met, it's real easy for your motivation in school to be low," Martin said. "Sometimes it's the simplest, smallest things that can boost a student's self-esteem."
Julia Zecca, a bilingual guidance counselor at Belle Glade, said she spends as much as $2,500 of her own money every year to outfit students and her classroom with basic supplies. Zecca, a teacher since 1992, said some years she has spent twice that amount. "A lot of parents are struggling to pay the bills and make ends meet, so their children are sometimes ill prepared for school," Zecca said. "That can have a real negative effect on a child beginning to learn."
