Heavily processed NASA image of a Medaka fish, studied on the space station.

Original caption: The medaka fish is studied on the International Space Station to examine the impact of microgravity on its bones. Impacts to the medaka’s bones in microgravity may help scientists determine the reasoning for a decrease in astronaut bone density during spaceflight

1.What is the concept? What caught your attention?

Magical Place

2. Articular the story-notice mood, emotions, visual elements, sensual experience. What is happening.

Trees light up the sky

Water reflects the beauty

Reflections go deep

Stream of consciousness-I was walking along a beautiful lit up canyon. Some are darker, this one was different and sparkled. I felt happy and surprised. I saw all the amazing colors, leaves on the ground, trees glowing, blue rocks, covered with green every where, like a magical forest where elves/faires could live and play. I felt playful, like running through the leaves and water. Felt like a child seeing everything new for the first time. It was a magical forest where anything could happen. I could make 3 wishes and they would come true. Magical seeing and believing. People would live happily ever after every where. I would wish this for everyone in the world, to find a magical and enchanting place within themselves and without. No more conflicts, no more wars. Everyone lives happily ever after in a beautiful world. Beautiful people in beautiful world. This is magical, because for a moment I feel everything is as it should be-live happily ever after. There are no problems, wishes come true. Then I realize this can not happen, the visual magic is still there, but my mind starts thinking of the real world with much pain and suffering. I remember some quote I heard about magic working through us, not around us, but through us. Wonder how I can help, in my small way. Magical me to transform the world in some way?

Awareness-When I began writing thought this would be more about the magical forest and all the visual stimulation which I strongly felt. Surprised the magical turned inwards and wanted a magical world where there would be no suffering or wars, and people would live happily ever after as in fairy tales

3. Visualize the photograph. Composition, technical details, post processing, etc.

I wanted to focus and emphasize the magical part I experienced and felt: leaving out the sky, wanting an intimate and magical feeling, showing the light on the trees, everything covered with moss and leaves, mystical water in the middle, cliffs surrounding the area for a cozy and intimate feeling, variety of colors contribute to the mood, texture of moss

Every element seems to support the theme of magical. They interact well together. Writing this makes me aware of all the elements supporting the theme or concept, main message, subject. Identifying the concept or theme first helps with the composition-what I want to include or exclude, how to simplify to express the concept, what relationships to include.

This was fun and helpful!

Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force James A. Cody visited Travis AFB,

Calif., July 9-11, 2014. During his tour of the 60th Air Mobility Wing, 621st Contingency Response Wing and the 349th Air Mobility Wing, Cody discussed improvements of the enlisted performance reports, and the important role frontline supervisors' have in making the evaluation process one that helps all Airmen meet their potential. Additionally, Cody emphasized that in 2015 the U.S. Air Force will have fewer Airmen than it has since 1947, making dedication, innovation and strong leadership more important than ever. Another from the cross-processing accident.

This is a 2008 image I just processed in the new LR4. It has a very wide dynamic range - in the original the area behind the building is blown out and the histogram is showing spikes at the left and right extremes. LR4 has allowed me to rescue the background and lifted the shadows very nicely. With LR3 I didn't think this was worth trying to process. As always there are plenty of people griping that they don't like this and they don't like that in v4 but so far I am very pleased and the upgrade is reasonably priced.

Don't say impossible to me. I will do it myself.

I was always taking my film to walgreens. C41 b&w always came out fine, but color film always looked muddy.

I tried better film, but never tried anyplace else.

So I grabbed a roll of walgreens brand film, zipped it through the k1000, and took it to another pharmacy. Not perfect (the kids at CVS don't give a damn where they cut the negs) but 50 times better than walgreens. Kicking myself for not doing it sooner.
