Same procedure as last week... I wasn't really happy with any of my images, and took several more (of the same subject) today, but in the end I decided to stick to an image taken last night. It's strange sometimes, isn't it? So here we go, circles, or rather holes of a reduction sieve (?) that came with my espresso maker. Each of the holes has a diameter of 1 mm / 0,03 inches. I wanted a very narrow focal plane and everything else as bokeh, and in that I guess I've succeeded – somehow. Well, I hope you like the image anyway, I've looked at it too many times yesterday and today, so I can't see the forest for the trees (or the coffee for the holes) :)
It's a single image illuminated with one LED lamp (equipped with the blue tealight holder), and backlight coming from another LED lamp (equipped with the yellow plastic bottle cap) on which I had also placed the sieve. Processed in DXO and Color Efex where I'd slightly tweaked the colours by adding some warmth with the Reflector Efex Gold filter.
HMM, Everyone!
...as last holidays. Every time since the little pier of Hvidbjerg Strand has been constructed I have to creep under the building to take a shot. It has become almost an obsession. Needless to say that this exercise is more convenient in Summer and times of low tide. Blavand, Jylland, Denmark
Big Sur is a rugged and mountainous section of the Central Coast of California between Carmel Highlands and San Simeon, where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean. It is frequently praised for its dramatic scenery. Big Sur has been called the "longest and most scenic stretch of undeveloped coastline in the contiguous United States," a sublime "national treasure that demands extraordinary procedures to protect it from development" and "one of the most beautiful coastlines anywhere in the world, an isolated stretch of road, mythic in reputation." The stunning views, redwood forests, hiking, beaches, and other recreational opportunities have made Big Sur a popular destination for about 7 million people who live within a day's drive and visitors from across the world. It is among the top 35 tourist destinations world-wide. The region receives about the same number of visitors as Yosemite National Park, but offers only limited bus service, few restrooms, and a narrow two-lane highway along the coast. North-bound traffic during the peak summer season and holiday weekends is often backed up for about 20 miles (32 km) from Big Sur Village to Carmel.

As Fort William is the outdoor capital of Britain, I reckon there are some out there who would kayak down this waterfall/
Yes, as my wife sat in hospital I had time to take a little trip up Glen Nevis. It's wild and rugged and spectacular for the outdoorsy type. Thank you for all the best wishes for her yesterday. She has a problem where her heart goes into Atrial Fibrillation (AF) and her heartbeat starts fluctuating, typically 130-160 heartbeats a minute, but not even at a constant speed. There are drugs that can correct the heartbeat and return it to normal speed and rhythm. But they don't tend to work well on my wife. She ends up needing Cardio Version., a procedure where they anaesthetise or sedate her and then stop her heart and restart it in the right rhythm. It's a procedure that scares the hell out of us, but of the four times she's had it now it gives miraculous results. She went in, had a few zaps, and comes out barely minutes late, feeling totally different, heart back working normally. She says she feels like she's been hit with a sledgehammer....but I tell you the relief is enormous. And she said the whole team in Fort William NHS Belford hospital are amazing.
At some stage, Ukraine will become EU member.
EU Council President Charles Michel said earlier today that he expects Zelensky to formally apply for EU membership some time soon. the EU commission will then formulate an advice, it will require a unanimous agreement of the 27 member states to approve the application and grant the status of candidate member state, which would be the start of the formal accession procedure for the Ukraine (this accession procedure takes several years).
Meanwhile, in a never before taken measure, yesterday the Council of National Ministers of the 27member states of the European Union, unanimously decided that Ukrainian refugees arriving in the EU will automatically get protected status for up to three years without having to go through the usual asylum procedure.
360,000 Ukrainian refugees have already arrived in the EU, a figure that is expected to rise to several millions over the next couple of days and weeks.

The tours with Ken's Tours are well organized and prepared for emergencies. They have procedures to evacuate tourists for emergencies or claustrophobic anxieties. They DO NOT ALLOW tripods, monopods, or selfie sticks. They have apparently had problems with tourists.
This is an amazing place. Every turn shows a new amazing, colorful, glowing, canvas. It was easy to take lots of photos. The tough part was culling the photos when I got home.
There were 10 people (representing 5 groups) and a guide in our group. The tours are a little under an hour from start to finish. The sent us in about 10 minutes apart. The guide is very informative and educational. There was some pressure to keep the group moving. The guide was helpful and took pictures of us several times during the tour.

The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdez twazi’, which means “the spiral role arches.” Lower Antelope Canyon is about 3,704 feet in elevation and the canyon walls are about 120 above the streambed. This canyon is more narrow to walk through, as it’s shaped like a “V”, so if you are claustrophobic this area is not for you. It goes into the slot canyon and you have to maneuver thru closely on stairs, which is harder to walk through. This area is also located within the Le Chee Chapter of the Navajo Nation, near Page, Arizona.

I noticed several Skylarks performing this dipping behaviour which looks very much like a display. They only did it when there was another Skylark nearby. Some were performing the procedure on the ground while this one luckily decided to do it on a post. They dip up and down with crest and tail raised while another bird watches close by.

Greetings! I'm still alive. Long story, but I suffered a head injury in 2022 (because everything awful happened in 2022) that has affected my vision long term. I have 3 procedures on my eyes coming up this year. The last one will be invasive eye muscle surgery to correct strabismus (fancy term for double vision).
Until then, I won't be in SL. I cannot see properly. I'm only on my computer for things like taxes and vital things. SL, it turns out, it's not as vital as being as present as I can be for my family.
Meanwhile, I have my three cats and my very old dog, Farkus. I'm taking life a day at a time. My liver disease is stabilizing slowly. There have been good signs and then new things crop up. One thing that is tiring is having to explain "No, this was not caused by excessive drinking." I mean, alcoholism is a disease that can cause liver disease. I have an auto-immune disease that has caused liver disease. Why do we harshly judge people that do suffer from alcoholism in the first place, that those of us who got to the same place by another route feel defensive?
Anyway, enough blathering. Still alive, eyes suck, but I'm reasonably well.
Best wishes!

MÁV-Start launched its public procurement procedure for 115 new electric locomotives in February 2020. The result was announced two years later, in 2022, and the winner was Siemens with its Vectron locomotives. The contract was signed in the same year. But in May of the following year, Lázár János, Minister of Construction and Transport, cancelled the order for political reasons, and the government no longer expects Siemens to help with the renewal of their locomotive fleet. As is known, the expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant is currently underway, the control system of which was to be supplied by Siemens, but the German government did not give permission to the Siemens company to participate in the project with Russian participation due to the invasion of Ukraine. Then the twist came in 2023, when MÁV announced: they will lease 24 piece of Siemens ES64U2 locomotives from Akiem through MÁV Rail Tours, and by the end of 2024, there was growing talk that the railway company had not given up on Vectrons, however, not by purchase, but by renting. The numbers were about 20-30 pieces and ELL was chosen as the lessor by MÁV officials. The first locomotives (193 210, 193 214, 193 216, 193 227, 193 230, 193 723) arrived in Hungary in the second half of January 2025, where they received the current State Railways livery and were prepared for passenger services. On February 2025 the locos were put into service, mainly on the Budapest - Miskolc and Budapest - Békéscsaba lines. The picture shows the 193 214 running between Mende and Sülysáp stations (HU) on 17 February 2025, with the IC 78 “Muntenia” from Bucharest to Budapest.

It would seem my waiting is over and I now have a date for my prostate procedure, in fact I’ve had two dates! One was for a fortnights time which I had to decline as I had things planned, the rearrangement is now a month away. I very apprehensive about the procedure but I’m sure it’s a step in the right direction. I can go weeks with only mild symptoms of BPH and then I hit the bad times and I just want this prostate ripped out of me. I had resisted drug treatment for many years but two years ago after a particular bad patch I was prescribed tamsulosin but resisted other drugs to reduce the size of the prostate because of the side effects and decided to investigate surgical alternatives. I was medically advised against a new treatment I was interested in call REZUM (steam abatement) as my prostate was over the recommended size for this treatment. I was offered an invasive standard surgical treatment or HOLEP a relatively new minimal invasive treatment involving laser cutting. Well off course I decided on HOLEP but as it’s new expertise is minimal and a longer waiting list. So here I am, I have a pre assessment this afternoon. With all this going on my short trip to lakes eased my anxieties, heres one of my opening photos of that trip from a scout around Lingmoor one of the very few Wainwrights I’d not climbed. Although I’m not into bagging as I always preferred doing different routes on fells I’d climbed many times, I had the idea to tick off these smaller fells in my later years, maybe I’ll set it as a goal to climb the remaining thirty odd fells remaining as some sort of post procedure fitness drive, maybe!
Had to pop into the local hospital in Newark yesterday. I was just having a blood test whilst my wife had an audiology appointment.
Sat in a ward in City Hospital, Nottingham at the moment, awaiting a set of procedures.

This is the statue on top of the Court House in Georgetown, Texas. I searched the Internet to find out more about her. Themis is untranslatable. A gift of the gods and a mark of civilized existence, sometimes it means right custom, proper procedure, social order, and sometimes merely the will of the gods. Interestingly, the blind fold and sword weren't added until around the 16th century. I couldn't find out what the blindfold represents. Here's some info from Wikipedia

The personification of abstract concepts is characteristic of the greeks.|date=October 2015}} The ability of the goddess Themis to foresee the future enabled her to become one of the Oracles of Delphi, which in turn led to her establishment as the goddess of divine justice.
Some classical representations of Themis did not show her blindfolded, nor was she holding a sword. The sword is also believed to represent the ability Themis had from cutting fact from fiction; to her there was no middle ground. Themis built the Oracle at Delphi and was herself oracular. According to another legend, Themis received the Oracle at Delphi from Gaia and later gave it to Phoebe.[4]
When Themis is disregarded, Nemesis brings just and wrathful retribution; thus Themis shared the Nemesion temple at Rhamnous. Themis is not wrathful: she, "of the lovely cheeks", was the first to offer Hera a cup when she returned to Olympus distraught over threats from Zeus.[5]
Themis presided over the proper relation between man and woman, the basis of the rightly ordered family (the family was seen as the pillar of the deme), and judges were often referred to as "themistopóloi" (the servants of Themis). Such was also the basis for order upon Olympus. Even Hera addressed her as "Lady Themis." The name of Themis might be substituted for Adrasteia in telling of the birth of Zeus on Crete.
Themis was present at Delos to witness the birth of Apollo. According to Ovid, it was Themis rather than Zeus who told Deucalion to throw the bones of "his Mother" over his shoulder to create a new race of humankind after the deluge.
Hesiod's description and contrast to Dike[edit]
In Greek mythology, Hesiod mentions[6] Themis among the six sons and six daughters of Gaia and Uranus (Earth and Sky). Among these Titans of primordial myth, few were venerated at specific sanctuaries in classical times.
Themis occurred in Hesiod's Theogony as the first recorded appearance of Justice as a divine personage. Drawing not only on the socio-religious consciousness of his time but also on many of the earlier cult-religions, Hesiod described the forces of the universe as cosmic divinities. Hesiod portrayed temporal justice, Dike, as the daughter of Zeus and Themis.
Dike executed the law of judgments and sentencing and, together with her mother Themis, carried out the final decisions of Moirai. For Hesiod, Justice is at the center of religious and moral life, who, independently of Zeus, is the embodiment of divine will. This personification of Dike will stand in contrast to justice viewed as custom or law, and as retribution or sentence.[7]

Lubrication information tag hanging from the speed-control pull-chain of a mid-to-late 1950s-vintage Fresh'nd-Aire air circulator (the Successor to the Fan, as the tag boasts), about 2½" (63.5mm) tall. (I haven't yet posted a picture of the unit by itself, but it can be seen here; it has long since been relocated since I took that shot.)
I'll confess...even though this fan (sorry, air circulator) sees regular summertime use, I hadn't lubricated it in about fifteen years. Back when I first put it in service, I lubricated it with synthetic automatic transmission fluid instead of the oil recommended on the tag. Over the years, I noticed no performance loss. Since I had the unit apart on my workbench to clean off the accumulated dust inside and out before the photoshoot, I gave the bearings fresh squirts of ATF to keep the air circulator going for many years to come..
By the way, I couldn't help but search the address on the tag to see what became of the factory. It is now the site of an apartment building.
