Más de treinta años tuvieron que soportar los habitantes del sector Santa María, de la parroquia urbana San Camilo, el problema de inundación que se ocasionaba en invierno. El inconveniente fue solucionado hace dos años a raíz de que fue concluido el alcantarillado pluvial ejecutado por el GAD Municipal de Quevedo del alcalde John Salcedo Cantos, en convenio con la Prefectura de Los Ríos.
Blanca Cobeña, habitante de lugar, aún recuerda los difíciles momentos que tuvieron afrontar en cada invierno cuando las calles amanecían llenas de agua y hasta dentro de las casas. Cuando iba secando quedaba un mal olor insoportable, felizmente ese problema se acabó.
Con la obra también fue favorecida la Escuela Fiscal Abdón Calderón, donde estudian alrededor de 600 alumnos. El director del plantel, Gualberto Vargas, asegura que cada inverno la escuela se inundaba por completo debido a la falta del alcantarillado pluvial, pero en los últimos años, una vez ejecutada la obra en la Administración Municipal del alcalde John Salcedo Cantos, fue solucionado el problema no solo en el establecimiento sino en toda la Ciudadela Santa María.
“Esta Administración Municipal ha sido un éxito en lo que se refiere a obras macro: anillo vial, alcantarillado sanitario para no seguir contaminando el río Quevedo”, dijo Vargas, quien además destacó la buena recolección de basura.
Al respecto, el Ing. Johnny Cedeño, Director del Departamento Municipal de Obras Públicas, recordó que allí fueron colocados alrededor 1.200 tubos de 1000, 800 y 600 milímetros en una longitud aproximada de 1.400 metros, con sus respectivos empates, pozos de revisión, cajetines, tirantes para sumideros y otros trabajos técnicos como fueron previamente establecidos.
Actualmente está en proceso para la contratación de la obra complementaria como las aceras y bordillos, y su posterior asfaltado. Estos trabajos empezarán a realizarse a partir del 2014.

A montage of Canon PowerShot SX50 HS shots of a Garden Warbler taken from the same position with different exposure compensation settings, 11 May 14.
As noted in the text accompanying the Yellow Wagtail photo posted a few days ago, this is the sort of shot that I've had trouble with on numerous occasions with the SX50 HS, as it repeatedly refuses to focus on the subject. Ironically, if there's a single blade of grass or small twig between the camera and bird, it has no trouble at all in homing in on the wrong thing, and so clearly there isn't a need to fill all of the focusing frame to achieve focus.
The problem seems to be related to the exposure compensation setting: my default practice is to under-expose by 2/3 of a stop in order to reduce the chance of blown highlights (which I have a particular aversion to) and then to carry out any necessary brightness adjustments in Photoshop. However, I found by trial and error that reducing or eliminating the degree of under-exposure can sort the focussing problem out.
The images in the montage are unedited (with the exception of resizing) and show that in this particular case it was necessary to reduce the exposure compensation to zero to achieve focus - and even then it took several attempts to get it right. The resulting shots were overexposed in my eyes, and so not usable.
Thankfully, I did eventually manage to get a good shot of the bird in question (see next photo) under less demanding conditions.

The results from scanning with Silverfast 6.6.2SE on a Canoscan 8400f. There are grey-fractal shapes over the highlight areas. These were not there on the pre-scan image.
One of my favorite mugs broke last night. But I am thankful that it was just the handle that broke, so it's still useable, and I still have more mugs that I can use.

This building at Lincoln Square, once the Boys Trade High School, is in bad condition inside. A newer addition in back has been converted into loft apartments. This part does not lend itself to such housing. Considerable work is required to make it suitable for offices or other similar uses. It has not been in use since the new, state-of-the-art Worcester Vocational Technical High School opened on Skyline Drive near Green Hill Park in 2006.
