Roughly akin to a Facebook "like" button, it would let people tell friends that they found an ad useful. Google said the subsequent tracking of Safari users was inadvertent.

Transparency in communication and relationships and business and politics is one of those things that is marching forward very quickly in the 21st century. Most people I know are big fans of it in general. I am too, yet I still realize that privacy has its place. And that in general I want other people to be more transparent while I reserve a desire to want to be private. (Witness the deliberations regarding MI and FL Democratic delegates this past weekend.) That sense of double-standard I find helpful in getting off my case, or someone else's. It takes courage to be see-through in thoughts and deeds. Whoever set up this room should rethink a few arrangement choices. Not that I don't sleep and study at my desk, but how are you supposed to stay warm with all of the glass siding?
I have privacy issues. I like to keep the door open, but several of my neighbors can see directly into my sewing room. It's usually not a problem, but with the nice weather everyone has been outside a lot and it makes me feel like I'm on stage. So I mde curtians. As an added bonus it makes my sewing room feel so much bigger. It's like theres an extra room.

However, in two years I think the internet and Facebook will be synonymous. With almost 500 million users and still growing (about half of the world's Internet users), does it really matter what Facebook makes accessible to non-users?
The bigger question: How and why is all of this even available to Facebook users? I thought I had stuff hidden from people I haven't friended.
