My second visit to this amazingly preserved one-man Newspaer Museum in Coos Bay Oregon. the Marsfield Sun ran from 1891- to 1944
This five-sided building contains all of the type cases and printing equipment used by The Marshfield Sun Newspaper, a weekly that began publication in 1891 and continued until 1944. Lots of letterpress equipment and such, but my favorite is the hot led machine that would turn paper molds into type molds. Amazing. Had the same tour guide, a self proclaimed, Printer's Devil, Ken Johnson who showed me around last visit.
The studio at "Greywold", showing the marble slabs on which printing inks were mixed and rolled out. The marble was specially prepared at the Lee, MA marble quarry, under Ernest's supervision. To the right of the slabs is the press, modified with a 28" wheel of Ernest's design. The inked blocks were laid onto printing paper on the flat press bed which can be seen immediately to the left of the press. The bed was then slid under the press, and pressure applied by turning the wheel. The mural painting -- here seen partially finished -- was an award winning design submitted by son Aldren in a competition sponsored by the U.S. Maritime Commission (1940) for decoration of the S.S. President Hayes, later torpedoed and sunk in World War II.

This is a shot of the Printing Horse Sculpture in front of a Building called the Print Media Academy in Heidelberg Germany. These are from my company Heidelberger Druckmaschinen - the biggest printing machine manufacturer in the world.

A mix of black, white and red lino prints with stitch work to enhance prints. Illustrates ability and desire to experiment with printing techniques early on. Based on a line drawing from the same flowers shown previously.
Initially began with lino print experimentation moving onto etching to retain precision of lines, which become slightly lost in lino print.

I did a mini workshop on rust printing today. I'm super excited about it! The rust metal actually goes into the fabric. It's not a stain, it's the actual metal in the fabric!
