The construction of this building began in 1916 built specifically to house the Printing Office which moved in in February 1918 from Sandakan. Governor A.C. Pearson formally opened the building on 16th March 1918. In 1936, the building was renovated to accommodate offices of the Treasury, Audit, Bank Agency and Post Office. The building suffered some damage during the Allied bombing raids in 1945 and it was one of only three buildings left standing in town following the raids. After the war, the building accommodated several offices: the Posts and Telecommunications, the Treasury, the Audit, the Town Board, the Resident Office, the District Office and the Attorney General Office. Except for the Post Office, the other offices moved out in the 1950s when other buildings became available. In 1968 the Posts and Telegraphs Department which merged in 1951 became two separate departments and the Postal Department took over the building for the Kota Kinabalu Post Office until 15th September 1986 when it moved to its new premises. The Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Development took over the building on 16th June 1987, and later renovated and restored the building to its original appearance to house the Sabah Tourism Promotion Corporation office and to function as a Tourist Information Centre. The building was gazetted as historical building on 13th July 1988.
