typeset dialect is an attempt to gain a better understanding of the people and subsequent culture that embodies the Whittier neighborhood. This is realized by analyzing a detailed source of imagery (captured while exploring the streets on foot) taken from textual samples residing within the prescribed Whittier boundaries.

My first experiment with spectrum colors in Photoshop. The curves should show an "S", which stands for solemone.

Available at HypeForType: Download Calgary Script

Calgary Script was mostly inspired by a brush script on a Welcome To Calgary sign in, you guessed it, Calgary. Though now, after it’s finished, I can easily tell the influence is evident of all the books

on American sign painting I have absorbed over the years.

The overall effect of the font is similar to something that Fonzied itself, big hair and leather jackets and all, out of the early 1980s, but the feeling really dates back to a few decades earlier. Heady caps and free-flowing lowercase make for a speedy, determined, and instinctively organized buffalo herd of a typeface. This is a packaging font with a true supermarket sign spin, with OpenType features including ligatures, alternates, and ordinals specifically made to follow numbers.

This is a full-scale dummy of our new book "DIY Album Art: Paper Bags and Office Supplies" with the real cover. Embossed on book board with tipped-in credits. Big shout out to Christopher D. Salyers at Mark Batty Publisher for the excellent post-production and sourcing on the cover.

"DIY Album Art" drops July 2009.

This design started out for a wine label. When the client chose a different design I recycled this into the wallpaper patern it is now.

I made a Valentine's Day thingy for my latest process piece for Design Cuts!

This one was quite a lot of fun to put together. Roverd is a great script typeface, with plenty of luscious swashes to play with. Add a few ornaments around it, sprinkle with a texture or two, and you'll get a neat card/poster to share with your loved one.

The bundle features some interesting resources for your print projects. You should check it out, and grab it before it's gone forever.

Used approved color palette to redesign stationery. A generic look with slight variation was used for the more frequently recurring emails to smaller audiences.

For the monthly direct response email and monthly newsletter (both to entire housefile), a more distinct look was given. The direct response email stationery incorporates stronger visuals, brighter colors, larger typography, clearer/stronger calls to action. Because a large portion of monthly web revenue depends on this piece, it needed to stand out.

The newsletter stationery adopted a look that resembled both the print version of the newsletter and the generic stationery. The existing newsletter logo was used next to a watermark of the company logo (to demonstrate parent brand relationship). The newsletter stationery header strongly echoes the look and feel of the 2010 website redesign (also launched in Aug 2010). This decision to go with this look was further reinforced when we considered that users would be navigating primarily to content pages. The stationery design made this transition relatively seamless.

I designed and built all the HTML templates following best practices for email, which can be extremely finicky. All stationery was implemented in August 2010 and is currently in use.
