Principles & Failure

The Bridewell was the town's house of correction from 1618, although the present buildings date from 1785 and are based on principles laid down by prison reformer John Howard. It was a county prison until 1878, and the police station from 1850-1963. Later it was the magistrate's court (until 1991). Now it is the Wymondham Heritage Museum.
