The curving repetition of the spindles of the spiral staircase creates the feel of movement. It draws the eye into the picture to jump from one spindle to the next. This photo allows the viewer to use their imagination and continue the rhythm off the page. The spindles appear smaller as they go farther down the staircase giving the rhythm variety.

Despite the fact that there are no obvious symmetry in here, neither side of the photograph feels unbalanced due to the fact that there are various secondary subjects dispersed throughout the image. The top and bottom of the image is weighed done by a long thing sign and a table. The man on the left and the big eupment on the right is equal in positive space, and there are few items in between that takes up space as well.
