Collingwood was taken over from July 22 to 25 by dozens and dozens of Elvis Tribute Artists from around the world and some amazing talent. The Collingwood Elvis Festival is in its 15th year and has become the largest Elvis Fest in the world. The winner goes to Graceland to compete to be crowned the "King" of Tribute Artists. I can't begin to describe what a hoot it was and how much fun I had. The guys are great and so into it. Their sense of fun, fan appreciation and graciousness helped make it the best time I've had in a long time. MORE TO COME!!! Oh ... the hotty GI Elvis ... be still my heart!!!
The official Collingwood Elvis Festival website. You can see all my photos at: Elvis 2010 Galleries (1st year for me so waaaay too many. Also taking some for the guys so lots of similar shots by they gotta choose!). Gotta check out the little kids, a few as young as 5 - just darling. Just us the drop down menu. You all gotta come next year!!!

Getting ready for the big day! My 'something borrowed' was my best friend's hair piece (my hair was only shoulder-length). Mine and the bridesmaid's hair and makeup were done by my little sister's friend who is a professional makeup artist. Without the generosity of family and friends, we could not have had such a beautiful day.

Meena's little friends came over to our house today and went swimming. The last time I saw them they both had very long hair, but their mother took them for haircuts on their way to our house. After their swim, I had them put on dry clothes and while they were in the bathroom I noticed them both, standing in front of the mirror, combing their hair very slowly, utterly transfixed. Fun.
After I shot the close-up of the goose primping, I walked away and it stopped and turned to look at me as if wondering where I was going so soon.
another trade.
She's so pretty. Her hair doesn't frizz till the ends. I don't have time to primp her until I finish off some commissions though. Better get cracking!
Getting ready to go to a surprise birthday party for a friend.
Tripod for today's masterpiece: miniature San Francisco 49er Christmas Nutcracker in a box (about 10" tall) and a scrunchie as lense support! =0)
This guy caught my eye as he was all alone on the platform for the Yamanote line.
I was waiting for him to turn in the direction of the train as it approached the platform, and predictably, he did. The bonus was him fixing his tie at the same moment he turned my way.
I'm finding myself becoming really comfortable with a 35mm lens on the M9. It's pretty much the only focal length I use as of late.

Oda, Hashimoto, Kashio and Dohi (2003) based upon the theoretical distinction of Hashimoto and Kashio (2003) found that overall Japanese (or at least Japanese mothers) dress up for internal reasons rather than to impress others.
Quoting Yamabe(1993: See Hashimoto and Kashio), Yashimoto and Kashio note that dressing up or primping (oshare) has generally been studied from the perspective of outward appearance, but is in fact also an expression of identity. Hashimoto and Kashio (2003) went on to develop an internal and external dressing up questionnaire and found that the internal aspect of dressing up for oneself is more important than the extrinsic motivation to dress up for others overall, especially in older Japanese.
This is hardly surprising given that the Japanese are especially capable of and chronically inclined to autoscopy through the use of simulated intra-psychic other. Since the Japanese dress up for themselves, for a simulated self-directed gaze rather than real gaze, they pay more attention to underwear. Real others can not see underwear, but a simulated gaze can see inside things, as the Japanese are found to be able to do.
Strangely however, attention to underwear is an item on the both the internal and external motivation to dress up questionnaire, where wearing underwear that does not affect ones outer wear correlates with intrinsically motivated primping but paying attention to the visual design (デザイン) of ones underwear correlates with extrinsically motivated primping.
This implies that Japanese wear visually designed underwear, that is popular in Japan, to show to others.
I have translated Hashimoto and Kashio's (2003) questionnaire as the Intrinsics and Extrinsic Primping Questionnaire which is available for download here, or in Japanese at their links below.
