They are such a beautiful bird in spring; by late summer they lose all their feathers and look very different as they grow new feathers. He is on a Japanese Maple tree limb right beside my porch chair where I was sitting and if you enlarge you can get a good look at his coloring with the black and red. He has raised his family in this tree for the last 2 years so I get a good view of the activity.

The Italian bee (Apis mellifera ligustica SPINOLA, 1806) is the world's most popular subspecies of honey bees. Originally from northern Italy and Sicily was formed by surviving the era of glaciation.

It is a bee much appreciated by beekeepers because it has proven to be adaptable to most climates from subtropical to temperate, even though it has proved less suitable for humid tropical climates.

Image from the historic Cemetery Groenesteeg. Founded in 1813, in disuse since WWII and in decay since the 1970s.

Subject: The depicted plant is a specimen of Tanacetum parthenium, a.k.a. Feverfew. This is a somewhat infesting weed, but it is also an aromatic herb with a characteristic bitter taste. It was believed to be a remedy against fever and gynecological diseases. Maresina is its vernacular name used in Valdagno (Vicenza province - Italy) and surroundings: there, this herb is used to prepare a dish called fritola con la maresina, which is a batter made with flour and cooked rice, then deep-fried in form of pancake. This photo was shot for an article (Vie Del Gusto, June-July 2014 issue). The portrayed plant is mine: lucky that I purchased it at a fair, because the review called me a day asking for some images of Feverfew to be sent overnight. The dew you see is artificial, to give an appealing effect. From the same set watch also The Frying-Pan Lady.

SIne the I began photography I have liked the idea of a small camera with the quality of bigger cameras. I am not overly keen on the bulk and noise of SLR cameras yet do appreciate their versatility. I use mostly Olympus OM and a Pentax MX for SLR photograpy.

What I like best is a pocketable camera offering control and a good lens. In 1980 I heard of the Olympus XA cameras and was saving up for one then lost my after school job and had to wait some years before buying an XA.

The Minox EL has needed attention to give it a working shutter and reliable metering, when working well it's lens produces immages full of detail and feel.

Yoshihisa Maitani did not like the complexity and potential for unreliability pop out lenses give, both the XA and Pen D have fixed lenses and are spot on for reliability. Of the two I prefer the Pen D it is designed like the Rollei 35 to be operated first from the view of the top plate, the exposure and focus are set this way on both then its up to the eye and the phograph is made.

Heinz Waaske used innavative design with quality engineering for the Rollei 35. Like the Pen D the Rollei 35 feels good with a satisfying mechanical feel in use.

The aperture priority automatic cameras here offer convinience of setting exposure and in most circumstances are accurate. The XA's rangefinder patch is small and I use it as a distance estimation camera most of the time like the other three. Maitiani thoughtfully designed the distance scale window to be viewed from the top and it works well like this.

Like Prime's truck mode, this isn't transformable in anyway. It's just a box on wheels, really. But is sure does help the truck mode feel more complete.

It is the annual open air Christmas service in Turtle Crossing Park. Pastor Charles Calvin is delivering the Word of God.

"-this blessed time! Friends, we admire these lights, and rightly so. Much work was put into this display. But do not let your perspective be captivated by temporary things. Christmas is the celebration of a new light that came to us, when there had been great darkness.

"Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us, To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace."*

This light was THE Light! God stepping into His own creation, taking our form. "In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." **

Are you still in darkness, friend? Separated from your very Creator by your sin? God has made a way for you. "Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”" ***

If you will repent. If you will turn from your life as you've known it and ask God to forgive you, change you, make you new, through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, then He will do so.

That is Christmas, friends.

A roe deer buck in its prime years. I saw him standing in a field very close to the backroad i was driving on. So i approached him slowly and came to stop only some couple yards away, surprised to see me he stood still for some seconds before jumping away, enough time to get some nice shots, the warm evening light adds some extra mood! We love campsites with a great view, especially when they’re secluded!

at Hunstanton seafront.

The theme of the week is "Prime" and since the moderators gave us some latitude on how to define the theme - I took it. This is the first time we've gone camping as a family (hence the PRIME-ary camping trip).

Interesting degree of difficulty here... its our first time camping (as I mentioned) in a brand new large 10-man tent (which I didn't bother to heed advice of other campers and have a trial set-up at home) in a downpour of rain in the mountains. That being said - we got it done and the four of us high-fived our accomplishment. (took us about an hour)

I also brought a tall pop up tent so we could put it over the fire-pit and still have a raging fire in the rain - gotta have a fire..

I took this picture of Myra, Zack and Drew (you can see them in the tent) after the rain slowed down in the night..

A couple of times per year we have this phantastic atmosphere in zurich. Then, I cannot resist taking the tripod to my favourite viewpoint.

Some good light seen on my way to work. It looks Photoshopped but all I did is converted the RAW and cropped to web size. About 30 seconds work. The back lighting on the sheep does it all. In the background a farmer on his tractor working the fields probably for many hours. Such are the true men in New Zealand.

Have a good weekend!

A lot of fanfare about these back in the day but few sold.

The LEGO City energy plant is safe, now that Optimus Prime has arrived. Better luck next time, Decepticons.

Optimus Prime is articulated at the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees, and features his trademark ion blaster. His truck mode carries two minifigures sitting side-by-side and features his classic G1 trailer (which, I'll be honest, is just a giant brick...but it looks good).

Richard Harvey UK threw a challenge at me recently. In his words

"Let me tempt you with Still Life. Grab some onions or other fruit/vegetables. Find a dark corner, experiment with lighting, shoot shoot shoot!

Your wife will think you’re crazy, but…..surely that’s not a new thing?"

Since the wife wasn't home to pass judgment I thought I'd give it a go.

I passed on the fruit/veg and instead grabbed this concrete statuary piece that we keep in the garden as a remembrance of all the dogs that have passed through our doors. Went into the darkest room in the house and shot, shot, shot!

Out of all the shots I took this one spoke to me the most. The lighting is just a StreamLight flashlight (torch for Richard Harvey UK and my UK compadres) that I positioned all around the room.

Now, is this still life? Since it's a statue it certainly fits the still bill. Is there a story? Sure, if you've read this far you'll know there's a story behind the piece. Was it enjoyable? Yes, it was. Pretty interesting to see how this little light played with the statuette. Was I comfortable. Absolutely not, I truly felt a bit silly taking multiple shots of the same thing. Will I continue down the Still Life path? If I can convince the wife I'm not crazy taking photos of fruity baskets and concrete statues then yes!

Thanks. Richard Harvey UK for throwing this at me. I appreciate the challenge to step out of my proverbial box and try something new.

BTW, this is SOOC the camera except for some crop with GIMP.
