So I made a return trip for one day in hopes of getting shots of a Rough Legged with prey. I waited ALL DAY and just about gave up hope. As the sun had set this fella became aggressively active and began hunting. The sky created a nice pink cast on the mountains from the golden light. I couldn't have asked for a better backdrop. I will post prior shots, but wanted to jump ahead. He devoured two voles within 15 a minute span. I'll save those for later :) These were dreams shots for me and felt so elated after waiting all day for something to happen because most of the hawks stayed out too far. My first encounter two weeks ago yielded nice Ferruginous Hawks as well. More to come! Click for large version.

I would never say it is my favorite color, but honestly I do love pink. I love how it represents compassion, nurturing and love. It relates to unconditional love and understanding, and the giving and receiving of nurturing. I also find it really sexy, plus Mik can tell you I love to both give and receive. giggles

Pretty village

Purple loosestrife is invasive in New England, but at least it's pretty. The bees also like it. It's growing all over a pollinator meadow in Burlington, at Mary Cummings Park.

I love to shoot birds with reflections in still water. The glassy smooth surface of the pond reflects not only the bird, but the beautiful blue sky as well. Here an American Avocet preens in early morning light.

Ninebark in someone's yard, leaves coming out before the chlorophyll enters the chloroplasts (this usually takes just a few days). The leaves will turn lovely colors again when the chlorophyll breaks down in fall.

This might even be one of the purple leaf cultivars
