Armed with 3 Carrot Cannons, this modern rover is prepared to traverse any hazard on Gardenius VII!
I wasn't trying to make a rabbit-themed rover for Febrovery, it just kind of happened when the rear structures looked like ears and the crate became a head. So here we are!

I have only prepared my taxes once before on my own. It ended badly. But I decided to try again this year. My daughter is not happy with this pic. She says it's lazy. Ok. I got up at 6:15am to drive her to a soccer tournament, sat watching the game in 40 degree weather. Came home, walked the dogs, did laundry, did taxes and then had to attend a charity function tonight (one of my photos was in their silent auction - people actually bid on it!). It is now 11:15 pm and I am sooooo tired. So call me lazy.

As I prepared to walk around the lake at Buddy Attick Park in Greenbelt, Maryland, I saw a number of common grackles in the trees and on the ground next to the parking lot, so I waited for one to show himself to me. It wasn't too long a wait! I love the beautiful iridescence on these birds!

The Sheboygan River is no longer at flood stage, but is significantly higher than normal. Whenever the winds blow over Lake Michigan from the east the water is forced from the river mouth back up the river. These sand bags lining the restaurant will remain until water level conditions change.

Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly
Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the beast
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before and ever just as sure as the sun will rise
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the sun
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast

Swans are fun to watch when they are preparing for flight. They are very heavy-bodied birds, and don't just spring into flight from the water. They "run" on the water, usually with a lot of splashing. This picture shows "lift off", after which, he will run in the shallow water, wings raised until it's speed and wings generate enough lift.

Ok, so at first when you see this shot, you're thinking that it is a zebra longwing (Heliconius charithonia).
That in itself is correct, but when I look a little closer, I'm reminded of a joke my late father used to tell.
It was about an elephant who every morning as he was going to drink some water he passed an anthill. And every day he stuck his trunk down into the hill and blew as hard as he could and watched the ants and their house being thrown into the air.
While the elephant thought it was very amusing, the ants unsurprisingly weren't quite as fond of his routine so one morning when the elephant came around, they were prepared. On a given signal, every single ant threw itself at their tormentor and tried biting him.
The elephant however, just laughed at them and shook his body, causing all the ants to fly off.
All but one. A single ant had managed to hang on and was still on the elephant's neck!
That's when one of the other and screamed at the top of his lungs: "Strangle him, Tony! Strangle him!"
About now, I bet you're wondering what this has to do with a heliconiid butterfly, right? Well, if you look at the legs of the butterfly, you'll notice that "Tony" is there, trying to claim the butterfly as his prize!
The ant is mot likely a common red ant (Myrmica rubra) or some closely related species. M. rubra is often (and erroneously) called the European fire ant based on behaviour, but it isn't closely related to the real fire ant.
Thank you very much for your numerous emails ! Yes, we are among the thousands who have evacuated their homes due to the wildfires in Southern California and have been staying in several hotels. Luckily we have learned today our property is not affected by the fire and we will be returning home soon. Stay safe, keep close to your loved ones and be prepared- get insurance, lots of it !

These huge sea stacks are located at Duncansby Head, the far North Easterly point of the UK mainland, very close to John o Groats. I wasn't quite prepared for just how impressive they are in real life, they are magnificent. The beach there is fantastic for foregrounds which I've tried to capture the essence of here. The day wasn't the best for photography and so I waited until there was a hint of the coming twilight before I took the shot.
This was part of a curtailed trip doing the NC500 route and can be seen in my latest vlog here: youtu.be/AyCevz-0vUY
The house was built 1891, to a rich trader Ubaydulla Xoʻjayev from Buxoro who exported coats of Karakul sheep resident in Uzbekistan to Russia. Here lived till 1925 also his son Fayzulla Xoʻjayev who had prepared together the opposition against emir Alim Khan with the Bolshevik and became after his escape of 1920 chairpersons of the council of ministers of the new-founded People's Republic Bukhara.
The Xoʻjayev house exists of different wings grouped around an inner courtyard in which residential rooms, sleeping rooms and stock rooms were. The house a porch has to the inner courtyard in the form of Iwan with a wooden roof supported by slender columns.
Under the living rooms are particularly lifted out a winter room with a big stove and a spring room whose windows are especially high. In the main tract lies the white hall which is decorated richly with coloured mural paintings. He served for the receipt of guests and for the celebration of parties.

No 500 mm or more at my disposal, but this gull still wanted to succeed, so for everyone less interesting than a squirrel, deer or other wildlife I suspect :)
As this juvenile eagle sits atop a dead tree on the edge of a small wetland pond it almost appears as if he is thinking ahead to the winter months about to hit us loyal Minnesotans. Judging from his coloring he is nearing the adult stage and is probably better prepared for winter this year than he was when he was younger. I used to have that naïve belief too when I was younger.

I am not prepared to bury my head in the sand and pretend that everything is alright when it is in fact the opposite.
I am not prepared to turn and walk away when I know that I should stand and face it all.
I am not prepared to close my eyes to unpleasant things and to stand by without taking action when needed to save a life.
Neither should you
