MEA CULPA mio padre rettifica cosi':

"Armatore non è necessariamente una parola brutta. L'armatore è infatti colui (o colei)

Onassis, Niarchos, Costa, Merzario erano armatori, pas guerrafondai.

Lake Mburu, Uganda - A small, mostly grass-green bee-eater with a canary-yellow throat separated from buff underparts by a black line across the throat. Singles and pairs occupy grassy savanna and wetland edges. They often perch lower than 1.5 m above the ground, and dart around hunting flying insects, then returning to the same small twig. Calls include a sibilant “s-lip” and other high-pitched notes. The Blue-breasted Bee-eater is slightly larger and has a white patch on the cheek. The much larger Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater has burnt orange underparts, and it prefers highland forest above 1800 m.

Small beautiful finches of Bloedel Conservatory at QE Park in Vancouver, BC Canada.

Green Singing Finch on the left and Tricolored Parrotfinch atop the orange. See how small the finches are compared to the halved-orange they are snacking in.

Green Singing Finch is one of the most popular small finches because the males are confident singers with a good voice. Despite the name 'green', the Green Singing Finch catches the eye because of its golden underparts, eyebrow, and 'mustache'. Females wear a necklace of dotted black in a band around their neck. They are about 13 grams (0.5 oz) in weight, 12 cm (4.7 in.) in size, and have a life span of 10-15 years.

--- Right Pet

The Tricolored Parrotfinch; sometimes called the Forbes Finch or the Tanimbar Parrotfinch, is a small estrildid finch native to Indonesia and East Timor. They prefer warmer subtropical climates, but can survive almost anywhere if adequate heat is provided. They are uncommon in aviculture, however many countries have a secure captive population.

My 52 project - Week 21/52.

“I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show.”

Andrew Wyeth

Learning the preferred habitat of species is key to finding and photographing them. If you are in the Black-and-white Warbler's range and see an oak tree with lots of lichen-covered dead branches. Spend some time looking for one of these active little birds. Fairly easy to spot because they are always moving. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

While I prefer to be early on a planned location - like one hour before sunset - I mostly use that time for sneaking around to find possible compositions sheltered from the wind, setup my gear, have dinner and to enjoy these spots.

Meanwhile I started to explore the boundaries of Milky Way photography during the different stages of twilight. Especially the last moments of astronomical twilight started to get into my focus. The conditions at La Palma are very good and so it was possible to get the centre of the Milky Way and the last glimpses of sunlight into one photo. It’s only possible on a few days between end of August and mid October when the visibility of the Milky Way matches with the twilight after sunset while the moon doesn’t show up. It was really exciting and I love to work on this topic and to hit the perfect moment. This is by far my favourite one!

Impressive hummingbird found in stunted cloud forest along the east slope of the Andes in southeastern Ecuador and northern Peru. Adult male is entirely dark blue and has a moderately long tail. Immature male has some green mixed into the blue plumage, and may have a buffy collar. Female is mostly green with a buffy or whitish collar, belly, and throat. Her tail is blue and shorter than male’s. This species is very localized, and prefers shorter forest and scrub near ridgelines.

This was one of the target species at this location...

The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the family Felidae; it is a muscular, deep-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck and round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. It is sexually dimorphic; adult male lions have a prominent mane, which is the most recognisable feature of the species. With a typical head-to-body length of 184–208 cm they are larger than females at 160–184 cm. It is a social species, forming groups called prides. A lion pride consists of a few adult males, related females and cubs. Groups of female lions usually hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The lion is an apex and keystone predator, although some lions scavenge when opportunities occur, and have been known to hunt humans, although the species typically does not. Typically, the lion inhabits grasslands and savannas, but is absent in dense forests. It is usually more diurnal than other big cats, but when persecuted it adapts to being active at night and at twilight. African lions live in scattered populations across Sub-Saharan Africa. The lion prefers grassy plains and savannahs, scrub bordering rivers and open woodlands with bushes. It is absent from rainforest and rarely enters closed forest. R_9815

Much that I prefer sunsets to sunrises I definitely prefer them to be on warm sandy beaches rather than frigid icy ones. But still it is a rare sight to see sunset light over the Long Island horizon shine upon layers of ice sheaths at my blessed home's private beach in New York.

... would prefer if it stopped raining though so I can occasionally dance in the sun...

The Mohana or sometimes pronounced Mohano are a Sindhi tribe found in the provinces of Sindh and Punjab in Pakistan.

Mohana historically involved in the Fishing industry. The Mohana tribe are Muslims, following the Sunni Hanafi Fiqh, and speak Sindhi. Many Mohana prefer self-designation Mir-Bahar, which means Lord of the sea. They are found throughout Sindh, but are concentrated along the shore of Lake Manchar. In Balochistan, the Mohana are often referred to as Medes, and are found mainly in Makran. According to some traditions, the Mohana are descendents of the Scythian Medes, who lived on the banks of the Indus some thousand years ago. They are one of the Sindhi tribes mentioned in the Chachnama, and together with the Lohana, Soomra and Samma are considered to be the original inhabitants of Sindh.

The Mohana are not only fishermen, but sailors and boatmen as well. Many are employed on fishing trawlers in Karachi. They have many sub-divisions, the main ones being the Karachia and Laria. Each sub-division inter marries, although there is a preference in marrying close kin. They also have a close relationship with the Mallaah community of coastal Sindh, and the two groups often intermarry.

What do Blue tits like to eat?

The Eurasian blue tit prefers insects and spiders for its diet. In winter, family flocks join together and search for food among plants for insects and spiders.Outside the breeding season, they also eat seeds and other vegetable-based foods. The birds are famed for their acrobatic skills, as they can cling to the outermost branches and hang upside down when looking for food.

Markhor is a wild goat and one of the most beautiful wild animals inhabiting the mountainous regions of Pakistan. The animal prefers living on dangerous and steep cliffs of the mountains to protect themselves from the attacks of wild predators including snow leopard and wolf. Also these high cliffs provide safe refuge from the hunters, who wishes to get at least one pride trophy of markhor in their hunting life. The male markhor is more beautiful while having long twisted horns. These animals have strong role in the food web of the mountains ecosystem and their presence ensures to keep it in shape both for nature and humans.

Pakistan hosts seven Caprinae species with 11 sub-species occupying habitats from the hills in the southern desert to the high alpine areas of the Himalaya (Hess et al., 1997). Most of the worlds Caprinae population inhabits Pakistan’s lower altitudes, use steep slopes, loosely covered by bushesor open forests, providing readily available rock bluffs as escape terrain.

Broadly, there are divided into two categories: flare-horned markhor (Capra falconeri falconeri) and straight-horned markhor (Capra falconeri megaceros). Flare-horned markhor includes two sub-species: Pir Panjal or Kashmir markhor and Astore markhor, whereas straight-horned markhor also includes two sub-species as well: Kabul markhor and straight-horned or Suleiman markhor. The Chiltan Markhor has been categorised as Chiltan Wild Goat.

they are potential prey for snow leopards, brown bears, lynx, jackals, and golden eagles. While not directly causing their endangerment, the already small population of markhor is further threatened by their predation. Hunting for meat as a means of subsistence or trade in wildlife parts adds to the growing problem for wildlife managers in many countries. Poaching, with its indirect impacts as disturbance, increasing fleeing distances and resulting reduction of effective habitat size, is by far the most important factor threatening the survival of the markhor population. The most important types of poachers seem to be local inhabitants, state border guards, the latter usually relying on local hunting guides, and Afghans, illegally crossing the border. Poaching causes fragmentation of the population. into small islands were the remaining subpopulations are prone to extinction. The markhor is a valued trophy hunting prize for its incredibly rare spiral horns which became a threat to their species. The continuing declines of markhor populations finally caught the international community and became a concern.

Stare of a tiger

Tigers prefer to hunt by ambush, so by looking a tiger in the eyes you are showing him you know he is there. Now he has lost the element of surprise, and will most likely go find something else to feast on.

The tiger is the biggest species of the cat family. Tigers can reach a length of up to 3.3 metres (11 feet) and weigh as much as 300 kilograms (660 pounds). Subspecies of the tiger include the Sumatran Tiger, Siberian Tiger, Bengal Tiger, South China Tiger, Malayan Tiger and Indochinese Tiger.

Francia, Normandia, Honfleur, estate 2004
