A meerkat on the lookout for danger as seen on the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail in the Africa section of Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Meerkats forage in a group with one "sentry" on guard watching for predators while the others search for food. Sentry duty is usually approximately an hour long. The meerkat standing guard makes peeping sounds when all is well. If the meerkat spots danger, it barks loudly or whistles. [wiki]

Thanks for looking! I appreciate feedback.

I think this overgrown tree stump looks like a bear waiting to pounce.

Brown Bear (Ursus arctos) with a female Chum or Dog Salmon (Oncorhynchus keta). Once the bears get satiated, they only want to catch female salmon so they can eat the roe. This must be a bear delicacy. Image taken on Hidden Falls Creek on Baranof Island.

The TIE predator was an arial assault starfighter used by the Galactic Empire during the Imperial - Sith war. It was more commonly known as the “Eyeballs” of the Imperial Navy.

This is my entry to CABGOII, Phase IV. I’m in the final six, and this is the last entry which determines if I win or not, so wish me luck! Oh, and this is actually just a backup entry in case I don’t finish my UT-AT in time. :P

Better pictures coming soon, hopefully.

Fishing from a kayak is an adventurous way to explore our wild waters . Loch Lomond is one of those waters , 39 km long . With warming temperatures and a seriously damp day ahead my confidence on the water was back . I knew the fish would concentrate in the more shallower part of the loch . Here comes the gears .

Hto 73 Lrf rod , this light rod can only cast small rubber lures , 8 gr maximum .

The small reel , 2500 Penn Sargus is perfect for the task , smooth drag system and bomb proof .

The line is so important , I use the trilene 4lb fluorocarbon clear . With low diameter , strong and invisible , it’s the perfect tool for the wary fish .

The lures are rubber shad , and small 4gr jigheads . Fox spikey shad are my favorite , swims like a small fish with a tantalizing paddle tail .

A little smear of Fish Dynamix magic wand and ready go .

In the next six wet hours I will cast this little lure and let it sink to the appropriate depth , merely fishing close to the bottom where the fish lie , in the weed forest . It’s a countdown approach , usually 10 to 20 second in every cast .

I have no idea where the fish are but making this little lure swim pass hungry mouth is deadly .

Getting the tactics right and matching the equipment made my day .

Pike , perch and a bonnie trout , I managed a good selection of hard fighting fish . Not to mention the kayak monday troops , a friendly bunch of wild people , and a typical wet scottish weather . A wet day to remember . Bring on the next adventure ..

While visiting Banff National Park a couple years ago, I ended up spending most of my time outside the park boundaries and in the lesser known Kananaskis Country. Just south of the town of Canmore, this area hosts huge sweeping meadows, dense boreal forests, towering peaks, and a plethora of wildlife. On this particular day, I awoke and set off on the dirt road at 6 AM. Instantly I saw a herd of elk, followed by a few coyotes, a moose and a her calf, and a few other birds to name a few.

After a couple hours, I pulled into another side road to find a large bull moose standing clear in the open. After spending some time with him, I reluctantly moved on. Lucky for me, I noticed something that didn't fit in the woods just 5 minutes after leaving the moose. As I got close I realized it was a grizzly bear. I got out of the car and watched the bear has it foraged for berries along the road. The bear got within 30 feet at one point, but had no concern with me as it focused on it's meal. I deliberately took the shot to describe the sense of motion I got as the bear hurried himself through the brambles. He barely took a second to rest and breathe. After this encounter, I had an even more rare encounter after it with a black bear. Although black bears are more widespread throughout the continent. there are only about 30-50 of them in all the Banff area. It was an amazing day for wildlife, to say the least.

this is a Valentini Puffer,

aka Blacksaddled Toby,

also seemingly known as any combination of these words: toby, puffer, black, saddle, saddled, Valentini

Scientific name: Canthigaster valentini

but then it could be a filefish that mimics the black saddled toby almost perfectly ( this mimicry gives it protection from predators ) ... said filefish also has a multitude of names ; Mimic Leatherjacket, Blacksaddle Mimic Filefish , Blacksaddle Toby Mimic, False Puffer, and Valentini Mimic. are just a few.

Scientific name: Paraluteres prionurus

so is it the toby or the filefish .. from the fins and photos here:

www.ryanphotographic.com/coralreef3.htm

I guess it's the mimic. But a bit more reading and I go the other way.

maybe only the marine biologists, black saddled tobies and the mimic filefish are supposed to know.

hoping it's the mimic ... much rarer on flickr; - ) ..
