C'est l'un des oiseaux néotropicaux qui chante en premier le matin
Son alimentation est variée. L'oiseau peut consommer des centaines d'insectes par jour mais aussi des fruits , des œufs d'autres oiseaux, des vers, de petits serpents, des lézards, des crustacés, des alevins des rivières et des lacs peu profonds. Il se nourrit également des parasites (tiques) des bovins.

Rheas, like many other birds, cannot create suction to drink water as mammals do. Instead, they rely on gravity to help them swallow. When drinking, a rhea dips its beak into the water to scoop it up, then tilts its head back to let gravity carry the water down its throat. This method is not precise, so they spill a significant amount of water in the process. This behavior is common among large, flightless birds such as rheas, ostriches, and emus, whose anatomy prioritizes other functions over efficient drinking.

Forgive me, dear Flickrite, for not being more precise than 'Camellia' for this backyard flower of ours. There are some 26000 cultivars of the plant and perhaps 50000 differing names. I'm totally unsure about this one's exact moniker. 'Camellia', though, is the name that great Carolus Linnaeus used for the family. It stands for Georg Joseph Kamel (1661-1706). As a lay Jesuit brother he went to the Philippines in 1688 and established a highly-reputed pharmacy in Manila from where he remained in close contact with European naturalists. He entered the order with his final vows in 1696. Kamel was more of a collector than an astute botanist. Linnaeus didn't think highly of his descriptions preferring those of Asian plants by another Georg: the famous, blind botanist of Ambon, Georg Eberhard Rumphius (1627-1702).

En Bourgogne, un Climat désigne une parcelle de vignes, progressivement et précisément délimitée par l'homme, et qui est reconnue par son nom depuis des siècles, souvent depuis le Moyen-Âge. Chaque Climat possède des caractéristiques géologiques, hydrométriques et d'exposition particulières. La production de chaque Climat est vinifiée séparément, à partir d'un seul cépage, et le vin ainsi produit prend le nom du Climat dont il est issu. La personnalité du Climat s'exprime dans le vin, millésime après millésime, grâce au savoir-faire du vigneron. Nulle part ailleurs dans le monde, l'homme n'a cherché à lier d'une manière aussi précise et intime, une production viticole à son lieu de production.
En 2015, les derniers services hospitaliers quittent le site de l'hôpital général pour celui du Bocage rénové. L'ancien hôpital est destiné après rénovation à devenir la Cité internationale de la Gastronomie et du vin. La chapelle est désacralisée le 20 mars 2015 au cours d'une messe d'exécration célébrée par l'archevêque de Dijon, Mgr Roland Minnerath. Dans un communiqué en date du 8 juillet 2014, il s'était ému dans un communiqué de "la perspective de banaliser sans concertation ce lieu en local commercial" (la chapelle devait initialement devenir une vinothèque dans la prochaine Cité de la gastronomie). Elle devient finalement un espace d'exposition accessible dans le parcours de visite de la Cité de la Gastronomie, sous le nom "Chapelle des Climats".

Ten years ago,on October 17, 2008 to be precise, we passed this railway bridge and took a photo of an eagle on the iron span (www.flickr.com/photos/fotofrysk49/4313854843/in/photolist...). Curiously, the same three people, my wife Averill and our friend Valerie and I were in the car then too. Wondering if it was the same eagle on that span, unlikely probably. In those ten years the car bridge has been replaced by a more modern and wider one. I remember coming across that bridge, from Iona that time, stopping right in the middle of the crossing and with the car door open taking a few pictures with the D200. Luckily there wasn't any traffic. That was my first Cape Breton eagle sighting.
To be more precise , that would be - The Bee and The Goat Willow Catkin ! What it is really , I am standing on the footpath outside my garden fence looking into the where the goat willow grows in the garden . At the moment there are plenty of catkins growing and they are attracting the bees - not sure about today though as the precipitation is somewhat heavy !! Anyway , Bee on Catkin !!

It did occur to me, during the period that GBRF ran the Deltic "Royal Scots Grey" during late spring and Early summer in 2011, that the first, or last portion of its short journey from the Lynemouth Aluminium Smelter to the North Blyth Aluminia import silos, that this section of line ran along the coastal sand dunes. In fact there had been colliery tipping on the beach up to the end of the 1960s here from Cambois colliery. There is a picture of this in one of Colin Giffords books. And Gone Forever, plate 213 to be precise.
But there were scant few in the hundreds of photographers who turned up during that time who acknowledged this obvious fact. Well, you would have to arrive early, and not many then shot in dull conditions.
So a calculation was made. The sun would rise over the sea at an acute angle in the mid winter, and the train for Fort William left on Saturday at 09:02, around half an hour after sunrise. Prone to run a little early too..
Keep an eye on the forecast and go. So long as the empties ran the day the day before.
Postscript:
The Lynemouth smelter, which received three trains each weekday from here, closed in March 2012, leaving from then on two to three trains a week to Fort William from this terminal.

Sometimes the first picture is the best. I could leave this place alone but there is something here, there is not another place like it and its not just the sea and the structures. Its everything that made what it is now, and what it was before. Life feels different in the North. For all its economic inequalities, life feels better up here, the melancholic celebration of life in the North is symphony for the soul.
There is no precise geographical definition for ‘Cornwall’s Forgotten Corner’, but it is taken to mean, by local residents, all of the Rame Peninsula, as well as all of the English Channel coast area to the east of (but not including) Looe. The northern boundary of the corner is defined by the A38 road.
It is reputed to be "forgotten" because the area is effectively by-passed by Cornwall visitors, and is geographically remote from the administrative headquarters of Cornwall at Truro. It is over 50 miles away from the Cornish capital.
It is isolated due to its geography, as it is bounded by the English Channel, Plymouth Sound, the River Tamar and the River Lynher. Visitors have to double back on themselves after taking the main A38 road from Plymouth at Trerulefoot and onto the A374. There are no main railway stations within the area; the nearest is at St Germans, which has a limited train service. However, there is a frequent vehicular ferry to Torpoint from Plymouth, and a passenger ferry to Cremyll from Stonehouse, Plymouth. There is also a passenger ferry from Plymouth to Cawsand in the summer.
The area effectively became more remote when the then new Saltash Road Bridge on the A38 road was opened in 1961. Before the opening of this bridge, and the improvements to the A30 road from Exeter to Penzance, most road traffic entered Cornwall using the Torpoint Ferry, taking visitors directly into this area. After the bridge opened, and continued dual carriageway improvements were made on the A30 road, traffic travelling through this part of Cornwall reduced greatly.
The Rame Peninsula part of the Forgotten Corner is included in the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is also steeped in history, with many military forts, and archaeological points of interest. The area is essentially rural, with the main industry being agriculture. It is also a residential commuting area for Plymouth. The area also has some of the wealthiest areas within Cornwall, as well as some of the poorest.

Well, 4 breeches to be precise. To jolt you out of your enjoyment of the beauty and tranquillity of the North Norfolk countryside, you unexpectedly come across this AFV sitting in a field beside the road. It's a ZSU-23-4 "Shilka", a Soviet era self-propelled radar-guided anti-aircraft system, armed with four 23mm cannons. The vehicle is at the gate of the very impressive Muckleburgh Military Collection, sited on a former military camp at Weybourne, near Holt.
L’île Louët se trouve au nord-est de la commune de Carantec. Elle se trouve en baie de Morlaix, à la sortie de la rade de Morlaix et plus précisément entre la pointe de Penn-al-Lann et le château du Taureau.
Le château du Taureau
À la suite d'une attaque de Morlaix par la flotte anglaise en 1522, il est décidé de construire un fort en baie de Morlaix. Toutefois, pour construire ce type de bâtiment sur la côte, il faut une autorisation du roi accordée par François Ier sur intervention du duc d'Étampes en 1542. Mais aucun financement royal n'est prévu. Le fort doit être construit sur les deniers des Morlaisiens qui seront remboursés plus tard, lorsque les finances du royaume le permettront. À titre de compensation, le Roi leur octroie le privilège de nommer le gouverneur du fort ainsi que sa garnison tout en assurant son équipement et son traitement. Ce privilège se révèle fort couteux, ainsi, en 1620, le budget alloué à la gestion du fort est de 18 000 livres.
En 1660, le Roi Louis XIV reprend le fort aux Morlaisiens et l'intègre dans le système de défense du royaume.
Vauban, ingénieur-architecte visita le château en avril 1689 et le trouva en fort mauvais état. Dans un rapport daté du 6 avril 1689, Vauban fait une description du fort primitif avant de donner son projet pour la reconstruction ; c'est ce projet général et ces idées qui seront utilisés jusqu'à l'achèvement du château en 1745. « Faire tout de pierre de taille. Choisir ces pierres des meilleures de l'Isle Calot qui tiennent bien leur arête, les tailler très proprement sur les faces» ordonne Vauban en 1689. La tour Française, même si elle est en bon état au niveau de sa maçonnerie, fait l'objet des bons soins de l'ingénieur. La tour d'artillerie devant assurer la défense du fort pendant sa reconstruction. Vauban propose de changer les deux planchers et leurs corbeaux de pierres de taille pour les ancrer dans le vieux mur, de réparer toutes les embrasures de la tour et de les doter de sabords.
Du reste de l'édifice, il veut construire un nouveau fort de « bonne et solide maçonnerie à chaux et sable ». Son profil « doit être fort et robuste, tant à raison des coups de mer dont il sera terriblement battu que de la grande hauteur qu'il est nécessaire de lui donner tant pour le rendre inaccessible aux entreprises de basse mer, que pour lui donner fleuron supérieur à celle de tous les vaisseaux qui passeront près ». La tour Française dominera l'ensemble du nouveau fort. Les quatre casemates à canons de l'ancien fort seront « déménagées », une nouvelle batterie basse voûtée de « pierres ardoisines » remplacera l'ancienne. Les basses embrasures sont destinées, selon les propres termes de Vauban, « contre le dehors à tenir du mousquet ».
Les travaux du nouveau fort du Taureau approuvés par Vauban commencent au printemps 1689.
Ce sont les ingénieurs Siméon Garangeau et Frézier qui mènent la reconstruction à son terme.
Garangeau meurt en 1741 à l'âge de quatre-vingt-quatorze ans, avant d'avoir pu terminer le château du Taureau. La dernière phase des travaux commence en 1741 et s'achève en 1745. La réalisation des plans d'achèvement du fort est donc confiée à Amédée François Frézier, ingénieur architecte du Roi qui collabore déjà, depuis 1717, au chantier. Le château fut totalement achevé en 1745.
