I was trying something I haven't practiced much...slow speed panning. I was using 250/sec and panning along with the jet skier (trying to stay right on target) and hopefully blurring the background water and getting him tack sharp. I now see that 100/sec would be better (and harder to stay on target...another friggin compromise), but still the effect on the water in this shot is pretty cool. I am looking forward to seeing if I have any shots that came out with a more dramatic slow speed pan later on as I get them processed.
Fantasia
Fantasia is a traditional equestrian performance practiced during cultural festivals in Morocco, and occurs traditionally to close Berber wedding celebrations in Maghreb. Fantasia is an imported name, the actual traditional term used is "Game of gunpowder".
It consists of a group of horse riders, wearing traditional clothes and charging along a straight path at the same speed so as to form a line; at the end of the ride (about two hundred meters) all riders fire into the sky using old gunpowder guns. The difficulty of the performance is in synchronization during the acceleration and especially during firing so that one single shot is heard. The horse is referred to as a fantasia horse and is of the type called Barb. Gunpowder is called 'baroud', and the traditional gun is a 'moukahla', hence the name "lab el baroud" or "the gunpowder play".
The performance is inspired from historical wartime attacks of Berber and desert knights. Nowadays, Fantasia is considered as a cultural art and a form of martial art; it also symbolizes a strong relationship between the man and the horse, as well as an attachment to tradition.
Each region in Morocco has one or several fantasia groups, called serba, totaling thousands of horse riders nationwide.(From Wiki)
The British Home Guard. They practiced without live ammunition, probably to avoid shooting each other.
In most China fields the traditional hand methods of cultivating and harvesting rice are still practiced. The fields are prepared with simple plows drawn by water buffalos, fertilizing with dung or sewage, and smoothing by dragging a log over them. The seedlings are started in seedling beds and transplanted by hand to the fields.

I took a Hummingbird Photography class sponsored by Desert Botanical Garden and taught by Robert McBride. I learned a lot and practiced a lot. I really feel that I had improved significantly by the end of the class.
The class was in a classroom in the recently constructed addition. It has a private garden just outside the classroom that DBG set up with hummingbird feeders.
My best guess is a female or immature Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna). Any correction will be appreciated. I admit I don't really know the difference between a Anna's Hummingbird and a Broad-tailed Hummingbird.

The art of sweetgrass basket weaving is practiced in coastal and barrier island communities from North Carolina to Florida, a region known as the Gullah-Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor. The Gullah-Geechees are the descendants of enslaved West Africans who worked on coastal plantations. Because of their isolation, they were able to hold on to many traditions brought to these shores during the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
Visit Charleston or Beaufort, South Carolina, and you'll see people sitting on rural roadsides or in city parks and on street corners selling these beautiful baskets. In Georgia, you'll find basket weavers on Sapelo Island and on St. Simons Island, and in coastal communities like Riceboro, Darien and Harris Neck.
Each basket starts with a knot, and moistened grasses or pine needles are repeatedly coiled and wrapped with strips of palm frond stems. Some have lids, while others have handles and other ornate designs.
Today they are considered works of art. However, the Gullah-Geechee ancestors used baskets for more practical purposes -- for storing food, toting things like crops from the fields, and for fanning rice, flipping the grains into the air so that the husk could be carried away with the wind.
I received a beautiful bunch of flowers from a happy customer today, so practiced focus stacking - what else!
a holy week ritual practiced in some philippine towns. practitioners flagellate themselves to enact the pain and suffering of jesus christ. some devotees cut themselves with blades before they begin whipping themselves. the whip consists of a rope with strips bamboo tubes tied to the end. as they whip themselves they are also whipped by a centurion. they do this ritual in the belief that this act of penance will cleanse themselves of sins. most practitioners are involved through a vow or panata. only once they have completed their vow will they retire from this practice.

With all the movies these days about vampires, zombies and covens, witches have gotten a bad rap. Since early times people have practiced 'natural' or 'white magic.' In fact, there are some who believe that white magic is only being in a 'higher spiritual state of enlightenment or consciousness.' You might even say to provoke a feeling of well-being is to practice white magic. I remember when I was a kid I wanted to be Samantha from Bewitched nearly every time I watched the show. She always seemed well-intentioned, if not ornery. She also had a natural charm and grace to her, making people simply want to comply with her wishes. Perhaps I'm acquainted with more witches than I know.
Wild Pacific Salmon reefnet fishing is a historical Pacific Northwest salmon fishing method. It has been practiced for centuries by the Native American tribes of the Puget Sound. Fisherman still stand on towers, wearing polaroid sunglasses, waiting to spot a school of Sockeye, Chinook, Pink, Coho or Chum salmon swimming along the reef and over the small net suspended between two boats. This process is incredibly selective, as spotters can identify the exact type of fish swimming below. When a school of salmon is observed, the net is quickly pulled up and the fish are gently spilled into a netted live well to relax after a brief struggle. This process is not only humane but allows for the dissipation of bitter lactic acid built up in the salmon flesh, which results in a sweeter flavor.

Drifting off to sleep last night I pictured this image in my head and I practiced shooting it all night in my dreams. When I actually went to shoot it it was much trickier than in my dream. I had to make sure the boat didn't actually float because the shifting snails made it move and drift around the water. I was in the gutter on the corner and everyone was hustling to get to work and school and kept stopping to see what I was doing. Hope you aren't sick of snails because I made a list of all of my ideas last night. If I can pull them off we have about 2 more weeks of these critters.

Seiser Alm (Italian: Alpe di Siusi, Ladin: Mont Sëuc) is a Dolomite plateau and the largest high-altitude Alpine meadow (German: Alm) in Europe. Located in Italy's South Tyrol province in the Dolomites mountain range, it is a major tourist attraction, notably for skiing and hiking.
Geography
It is located in the western part of the Dolomites and has an altitude between 1,680 m a.s.l. and 2,350 m a.s.l.; it extends for 52 km² between Val Gardena to the north, the Sassolungo Group to the north-east and the Sciliar massif to the south-east, which with its unmistakable profile is one of the most famous symbols of all the Dolomites. Given the vastness of the area, from here it is possible to admire a large number of mountain groups: among others, the Sella Group, the Rosengarten group and the Marmolada.
It is an alp, it is an area where pasture is practiced, the largest in Europe, divided into numerous plots reserved to grazing or from which the farmers get hay for their farms located downstream.
The eastern part has been included since 1975 in the Sciliar natural park.
Surrounding peaks
The alp offers a panoramic view which includes (from north, in a clockwise direction): Peitlerkofel (Sass de Putia, 2,873 m), the Odle and the Puez groups (3,025 m), the Gran Cir, the Sella group (3,152 m), Langkofel (Sassolungo, 3,181 m) and Plattkofel (Sassopiatto, 2,995 m), the Marmolada (3.343 m), the Pala group (Pale di San Martino, 3,192 m), the Vajolet Towers (2,821 m) the Rosengarten group (Catinaccio, 2,981 m) with the peak of the Kesselkogel (Catinaccio d'Antermoia, 3,002 m) and the Schlern (Sciliar, 2,450 m).
(Wikipedia)
The Langkofel Group (Ladin: Saslonch, Italian: Gruppo del Sassolungo) is a massif in the (western) Dolomites of the Italian Alps. It separates Gröden (to the north) and the Fassa valley (to the south), as well as the Sella massif (to the east) and the Rosengarten (to the west). Northwest of the Langkofel is the Seiser Alm. The highest point in the range is the eponymous Langkofel with a height of 3,181 metres. Taken together, the summits of the Langkofel form an arc which is only open towards the northwest. Within this arc there is only one small mountain, the Langkofelkarspitze, so that the group surrounds a kind of "inner courtyard".
Geology
The region was formed in the early Triassic period (about 230 million years ago) as a coral reef in a shallow tropical sea. Hard limestone was able to form on the outside of the reef, whilst the rock in the interior remained brittle and was quickly eroded away following the uplifting of the range. This left a garland of mountains which, in a clockwise direction, are the Langkofel, Langkofeleck, Fünffingerspitze, Grohmannspitze, Innerkoflerturm, Zahnkofel and Plattkofel.

Tourism
In Summer a gondola lift runs from Sellajoch up to the col of Langkofelscharte and the Toni Demetz refuge hut. From there both the Langkofel (via the Langkofel Hut, Confinböden and the Emilio Comici Hut), as well as the Plattkofel (via the Langkofel Hut, Plattkofel Hut and Frederick Augustus Way) may be circled on hiking trails. The Plattkofel may be reached from the Langkofelkar on the klettersteig route known as the Oskar Schuster Steig and from the Plattkofel Hut over the steep western flank (here without climbing). Between the Langkofel and the Sellajoch is the area of rockslides known as the "Rocky Town" (Steinernen Stadt), notable especially for its rich flora.
In winter there are ski areas at the foot of the Langkofel Group: the Col Rodella (on the Sellajoch), Plan de Gralba, Ciampinoi (with its well-known Saslong world cup run) and Monte Pana/Mont de Sëura. The famous Sella Ronda, a circuit of the Sella Group on ski pistes both clockwise and anticlockwise, also runs over these pistes.

As I have practiced it, photography produces pleasure by simplicity, I see something special and show it to the camera. A picture is produced. The moment is held until someone sees it. Then it is theirs. Photography, alone of the arts, seems perfected to serve the desire humans have for a moment -- this very moment -- to stay.

I practiced photographing fireworks during the Western Pyrotechnic Association show in Lake Havasu, Arizona. It's four nights of professional fireworks that are set off for a couple hours each night.
The show was fantastic. Some quite unusual fireworks were displayed. I enjoyed this one that lit stars as it fizzled out.
In the bustling courtyard of Juliet’s House in Verona, Cristina adjusted her camera with practiced precision. Her job was simple—capture fleeting moments of tourists standing on the famous balcony, dreaming of love and legend. The laughter, the hopeful gazes, the whispered lines from Shakespeare—all framed within her lens, all ready to be sold as a keepsake.
She had seen thousands of faces, each one seeking a piece of romance to take home. Some kissed, some posed dramatically, others just stood there, lost in thought. Cristina didn’t judge. Love, real or imagined, was good for business. With a click, another memory was frozen in time, waiting to find its owner.
Mitla is one of the pre-Columbian sites that express the Mesoamerican belief that death was the most consequential part of life after birth. It was built as a gateway between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Nobles buried at Mitla were believed to be destined to become “cloud people,” who would intercede on behalf of the population below.
Mitla was still occupied and functioning as the main religious center when the Spanish explorers and military expeditions arrived in the 1520s and later. The high priest, called the Uija-tào, resided at Mitla. The Spanish likened him to the pope of the Catholic Church. At that time the urban center covered an area of 1 to 2 square kilometres (0.39 to 0.77 sq mi), with suburban areas surrounding it. In the rural areas, intensive agriculture was practiced over an area of more than 20 square kilometres (7.7 sq mi) to feed the city.

One peculiarity of the Rosengarten is the pink shade, owing to the presence of the mineral dolomite, which takes in the sunset and "glows", as celebrated in the Bozner Bergsteigerlied. Meaning "Rose garden" in German, the name refers to the legend of King Laurin and his Rose Garden, a traditional story explaining the outer appearance of the mountain range.

Tibetan Buddhism (also Indo-Tibetan Buddhism) is the form of Buddhism practiced in Tibet, where it is the dominant religion. It is also found in the regions surrounding the Himalayas (such as Bhutan, Ladakh, and Sikkim), much of Central Asia, the Southern Siberian regions such as Tuva, as well as Mongolia.
Tibetan Buddhism is a form of Mahayana Buddhism stemming from the latest stages of Indian Buddhism (which also included Vajrayana teachings). It thus preserves many Indian Buddhist Tantric practices of the post-Gupta Early Medieval period (500 to 1200 CE), along with numerous native Tibetan developments.[1][2] In the pre-modern era, Tibetan Buddhism spread outside of Tibet primarily due to the influence of the Mongol Yuan dynasty (1271–1368), founded by Kublai Khan, which ruled China, Mongolia and parts of Siberia. In the modern era, it has spread outside of Asia due to the efforts of the Tibetan diaspora.
Apart from classical Mahayana Buddhist practices like the six perfections, Tibetan Buddhism also includes Tantric practices, such as deity yoga and the Six Dharmas of Naropa as well as methods which are seen as transcending tantra, like Dzogchen. Its main goal is Buddhahood or rainbow body.[3] The main language of scriptural study in this tradition is classical Tibetan.

You checked out and had fun. Your doctor is so gentle and has the best nick names for you like "whoa cowboy" or "little super star." There is something that gets me every time she listens to your heart beat. I think it reminds me that I made you- and you are living and breathing. And that is an amazing thing.

The Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) is a widespread member of the cormorant family of seabirds. It breeds in much of the Old World and the Atlantic coast of North America. In European waters it can be distinguished from the Common Shag by its larger size, heavier build, thicker bill, lack of a crest and plumage without any green tinge. In eastern North America, it is similarly larger and bulkier than Double-crested Cormorant, and the latter species has more yellow on the throat and bill. Great Cormorants are mostly silent, but they make various guttural noises at their breeding colonies.
Many fishermen see in the Great Cormorant a competitor for fish. Because of this it was nearly hunted to extinction in the past. Thanks to conservation efforts its numbers increased.
Cormorant fishing is practiced in China, Japan, and elsewhere around the globe. In it, fishermen tie a line around the throats of cormorants, tight enough to prevent swallowing, and deploy them from small boats. The cormorants catch fish without being able to fully swallow them, and the fishermen are able to retrieve the fish simply by forcing open the cormorants' mouths, apparently engaging the regurgitation reflex.
In North Norway, cormorants are traditionally seen as semi-sacred. (wikipedia)

Tai chi ch'uan or tàijíquán is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and its health benefits. Though originally conceived as a martial art, it is also typically practiced for a variety of other personal reasons: competitive wrestling in the format of Pushing Hands (Tui Shou), demonstration competitions, and achieving greater longevity. As a result, a multitude of training forms exist, both traditional and modern, which correspond to those aims with differing emphasis. Some training forms of t'ai chi ch'uan are especially known for being practiced with relatively slow movements. This group exercises Tai Chi in the Stadtpark of Regensburg.

The day we did the longest hike ever.
We "practiced" before going to Patagonia every weekend in California so that we can do this hike. We knew that it was going to be a long long hike, and we did it!
Perhaps because we take lots of photographs, it might've taken longer than other hikers do, but who cares, we started hiking at 8 am on that day, under the burning sun we finished the hike by walking back to the town of El Chaltén at 7:30 p.m...
The highlight of the hike was definitely the mountain of "El Chaltén", commonly known as "Mt. Fitz Roy". We hiked to the top of the mountain ranges, then we got to see this beautiful emerald green lake in front of the majestic El Chalten.
This was certainly one of the moments that brought us the greatest joy of life. Of course, more and more photos to come...

Tattooing in Burma was a widespread custom practiced by various ethnic groups, including the Chin, Bamar, Shan, and Karen until the 20th century.
Tattooing was a distinguishing cultural marker.
Southern Chin women were also tattooed on their faces with closely set lines using blue pigments, ostensibly to discourage them from being kidnapped by invaders. Chin women were typically tattooed between the ages of 15 and 20. The practice has quickly disappeared, as it was banned in the 1960s by Burma's socialist regime and it was discouraged by Christian missionaries.
