The game of Palla 21, or "Palla eh !" is an ancient popular game known and practiced in Ciciano, one of the few villages, together with those of Torniella, Piloni, Vetulonia and Tirli, in the province of Grosseto, and Scalvaia in the province of Siena, where this traditional sport has survived today. These countries compete every year in a regular amateur tournament.

A difficult year for stag rut in our Fontainebleau forest. Hunting is far too present and especially court hunting, a cruel and traumatic hunt that is still practiced (even though it is prohibited in most countries).
The result is that fewer and fewer animals frequent the forest
The forest loses its soul and its king gradually disappears.

Falconry was originally developed as a means of hunting fast or difficult prey as food for the table, and is still practiced for this purpose in many parts of the world today.
The inhabitants of Mani, the Maniates are descendants of the ancient Dorian population of the Peloponnese and related to the ancient Spartans. The terrain is mountainous and inaccessible and until recently many Mani villages could be accessed only by sea.
Maniates had a reputation as fierce and proudly independent warriors, who practiced piracy and fierce blood feuds. For the most part, the Maniates lived in fortified villages in "house-towers" where they defended their lands against the armies of the Franks and later the Ottomans.
Vendettas
An important aspect of Maniot culture were the vendettas which frequently plagued Mani. Usually, the decision to start a vendetta was made at a family gathering. The main aim of a vendetta was usually to wipe out the other family. The families involved locked themselves in their towers and whenever they got the chance murdered members of the opposing family. The other families in the village normally locked themselves in their towers in order not to get in the way of the fighting.
Some vendettas went on for months, sometimes years. In vendettas, the families could have a truce or treva, if one family needed to attend a religious ceremony or when it was time to harvest the crops. As soon as the treva ended, the killing could resume. Vendettas usually ended when one family was exterminated or when the defeated family left the town. Sometimes families came to terms, and vendettas stopped when the Turks invaded. The longest treva occurred when the Mavromichales declared war on the Turks in 1821. Vendettas continued after the liberation of Greece even though the Regency tried to demolish the towers.

Holding on tight to the crown is something that is often practiced to maintain position, it occurs throughout the animal world. When the wind blows and a gale threatens, the strategy is to hold on to the familiar environment, show off a slender body, expose yourself to photographers who are easily stunned and wait to see if it subsides so you can keep your position... I'm talking about the dragonfly in the photo... Don't be suspicious 😄
Knolling is the process of arranging different objects so that they are at 90 degree angles from each other, then photographing them from above. Not my typical style, so I practiced for the first time doing a photo stack. I wanted sharp focus from the surface of the cakes down to the tabletop. It turned out to be kind of fun!
Thailand Life: Wat Huay Pla Kang is a major tourist attraction located 20 minutes by road to the north of Chiang Rai town center
Wat Huay Pla Kang is a relatively new attraction in Chiang Rai which has become immensely popular in the past 2 years. The temple is an ever expanding project and now features three major elements, none of which existed before 2001 and the most recent of three structures was completed in late 2016. The most prominent part of Wat Huay Pla Kang is its large white statue. The figure represented by the statue is not the Lord Buddha, but rather Guan Yin whose is the Goddess of Mercy in the form of Buddhism practiced in China and Vietnam and the temple attracts a lot of visitors from those countries as a consequence.

As my kids practiced going down hill on skis, I opted for snowshoes and made my way through the trees. I love the denseness and darkness of the forest and how the sun still makes its way in.

Alberobello is named for the oak forest which used to surround it many centuries ago Arboris Belli (lovely trees) we arrived here on Sept 27 which coincided with the city saint day celebrations so the Alberobellians were out in full force and the vendors that cater to the locals had a fabulous market set up downtown that was a real treat with local specialties and crafts.
The city is twice blessed by saints as they unusually have two city saints to celebrate Cosmas and Damian two Syrian doctor bothers that practiced free medicine and preached sometime between the 3rd and 4th century until they were rounded up and beheaded by the Emperor Diocletian but here they are remembered and celebrated annually.
A few thoughts on visiting the city which though its main activity is the agriculture of almonds and olives it is closely followed closely by tourism, my first thought is to try to avoid the high season and peak hours unless you enjoy the tourist throngs and my second thought is spend the evening or at least visit after 3pm when the tourist buses pull out for their next destination and you will have a trulli wonderful experience.

These birds are fast fliers (approx. 50 mph/80 kph) and it's always a challenge to get a sharp shot as they zoom by. But bright light, a fast shutter speed, and practiced technique make it possible to highlight their beauty!

The Oriented Natural Reserve of the Saline di Trapani and Paceco is a protected natural area of Sicily that extends for almost 1000 hectares in the territory of the municipalities of Trapani and Paceco.
The reserve, within which the ancient activity of extraction of sea salt is carried out, is an important wetland, which offers shelter to numerous species of migratory birds. It is managed by WWF Italy.
Much of the Reserve is made up of privately owned salt pans, where salt extraction is still practiced according to traditional techniques in use for centuries.
The presence of numerous windmills is of considerable landscape impact.
They are traditionally of different types: those used to pump water between basins, the mill for lifting the water, and finally those for grinding salt crystals.

This is the Ribeira beach in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Place frequented by tourists from all over the world. This place has a calm water beach where rowing is practiced.
The rural area has its unique scenery. At north of Ontario, scattered first nation tribes and Mennonite community villages. For the first nations, the old traditions have diminished, such as, women were farmers and did most of the child care and cooking, men were hunters and sometimes went to war to protect their families, both genders practiced story-telling, artwork and music, and traditional medicine, etc. The lifestyle is similar to us, except politically independent and has its own government, most of them live beside the lakes… However, Mennonite community, Amish families and communities maintain a more primitive lifestyle than the surrounding culture. Amish lifestyle differs from community to community, for example, no TV and internet for some Amish communities… Work at sunrise, rest at sunset.
The photo was taken at Johnson Township, a vibrant agricultural community with a seasonal Farmer’s Market supported by the local Mennonite community. Beautiful sunshine day, but very cold and strong wind. Mennonite community village was almost disappeared in the blowing snow.
Although my sister and I were wrapped like balls in -30C, still felt being swept away by blizzard ... But we were happy like kids in the blowing snow... 😉

Luzzus are brightly painted traditional fishing boats of the Maltese islands. They are painted in shades of yellow, red, green and blue, and the bow is normally painted with a pair of eyes. These eyes may be the modern survival of an ancient Phoenician custom (also practiced by the ancient Greeks and Egyptians); they are referred to as the Eye of Horus or of Osiris. This view shows the entire 500 Block of Pulaski St. All of the properties in this view lie within the Lincoln Courthouse Square Historic District that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
First settled in the 1830s, Lincoln is the only town in the United States that was named for Abraham Lincoln before he became president. Mr. Lincoln practiced law here from 1847 to 1859. The seat of Logan County, Lincoln is situated in central Illinois approximately 26 miles northeast of Springfield, the state capitol. The population of Lincoln at the 2020 census was 13,288.
Duftek is another awesome Knoxville area photographer. We also shoot in the same areas and he gave me(he doesn’t know it yet) the inspiration to do long exposure shots and HDR’s of waterfalls and nature shots. The New Synagogue on Oranienburger Strasse in the district of Berlin-Mitte is a building of outstanding importance for the history of the Jews in Berlin and an important architectural monument. It was inaugurated in 1866. The remaining part of the structure is a listed building.
It was once the largest and most important synagogue in Germany and today is not only a place where Jewish life is practiced, but also a popular tourist attraction.

Today's Sunday is national mourning day, in Germany a public holiday to commemorate those who fell in the Second World War. therefore with these pictures I include the memory of the fate of the Jewish fellow citizens who were inflicted so much suffering in this period and who have an infinite number of deaths to mourn.

Volkstrauertag
Der heutige Sonntag ist Volkstrauertag, in Deutschland ein Feiertag zum Gedenken an die Gefallenen des Zweiten Weltkriegs. deshalb schließe ich mit diesen Bildern das das Andenken an das Schicksal der jüdischen Mitbürger denen in dieser Zeitperiode so viel Leid zugefügt wurde und unendlich viel Tote zu beklagen haben mit ein.

A view of the east side of the square in Mount Pulaski. Most of the commercial buildings that face the courthouse on its east, west and south sides date from the late 19th and early 20th century.
Mount Pulaski briefly held the county seat of Logan County from 1848 to 1855, after which the county seat was moved to Lincoln, a city featured in my Logan County album in 2020. The city is the home of the Mount Pulaski Courthouse State Historic Site, one of only two original courthouses where Abraham Lincoln practiced law on the 8th Judicial Circuit.
Mount Pulaski is located in southern Logan County, about 30 miles northeast of Springfield. The population of Mount Pulaski at the 2020 census was 1,537.
This morning I practiced in the early light (07:02), but still need more practice for flight shots when the male goldfinch feeds a fledgling.

La hermosa playa dunar de Laga, enclavada en la Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai y junto al cabo de Ogoño (279 m), pertenece al municipio de Ibarrangelu.
Es uno de los arenales más bonitos de la costa vizcaína. Con sus 574 metros de arena fina y dorada, la playa se encuentra abierta al mar.
Núcleo surfero de los surfistas de Gernika y alrededores, las olas de Laga son cortas e intensas, picos de izquierda y de derechas. La zona este de la playa es la más concurrida.
Necesita un swell medio de dirección oeste para empezar a funcionar. Puede aguantar hasta los dos metros. Cuenta con un club de surf y una escuela. También se practican otros deportes acuáticos, como la vela o el piragüismo. Los más intrépidos incluso se atreven a saltar desde el peñón de Ogoño con sus parapentes.
The beautiful Laga dune beach, nestled in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve and next to Cabo de Ogoño (279 m), belongs to the municipality of Ibarrangelu.
It is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Biscayan coast. With its 574 meters of fine golden sand, the beach is open to the sea.
Surfing nucleus of surfers from Gernika and its surroundings, the waves of Laga are short and intense, peaks to the left and to the right. The eastern part of the beach is the busiest.
It needs a medium swell from the west direction to start working. It can hold up to two meters. It has a surf club and a school. Other water sports are also practiced, such as sailing or canoeing. The most intrepid even dare to jump from the Ogoño rock with their paragliders.
I practiced HDR photos a lot, but I stopped mostly to do it : it takes a long time to do, and the result for outdoor photos is a bit disappointing : the colors are often not very natural. Results are in general as good with a traditional format.
I therefore reserve this format for very specific lighting conditions. Here, night had fallen, but it was the blue hour, just still a piece of light for beautiful photos. In this context, the HDR format keeps its full meaning. This allows us to admire, as I saw that night, the pure and remarkable forms of the Romanesque church of Loché. The church of Saint John the Baptist in Loché dates from the 12th century, it's quite old ! I particularly like its outstanding octagonal bell tower.

L'heure bleue sur l'église de Loché
J'ai beaucoup pratiqué les photos en HDR, mais j'en suis revenu : c'est long à faire, et le résultat pour des photos en extérieur est un peu décevant : les couleurs ne sont souvent pas très naturelles. On arrive en général à d'aussi bons résultats avec un format traditionnel.
Je réserve donc ce format pour des conditions de luminosité très particulières. Ici, la nuit était tombée, mais c'était l'heure bleue, juste encore un peu de luminosité pour de belles photos. Dans ce contexte, le format HDR prend tout son sens. Cela nous permet d'admirer comme je l'ai vu ce soir là les formes pures et remarquables de l'église romane de Loché. L'église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Loché date du 12ème siècle, excusez du peu ! J'aime tout particulièrement son clocher octogonal extraordinaire.

Along the river Inn arise several colourful houses. I was told that those colours used to have a meaning: each colour stood for a different craft, practiced by the inhabitants. (Se non è vero, è ben trovato.)
Parent flying in to feed the three young ones. In large you will see the fish hook. I wish everyone who practiced catch and release would remove the fishing hooks before releasing. It's not only cruel to that fish but to all the animals who might eat that fish.

La Pedriza,
is a large granitic batholith located on the southern slope of the Sierra de Guadarrama, within the Spanish municipality of Manzanares el Real, in the northwest of the Community of Madrid. This berrocal is formed by numerous cliffs, rocky walls, grasslands, streams and meadows. It is an area of great geological, landscape and sports interest.
The mechanical actions that have been exercised on these rocks for millions of years have shaped very curious and attractive, especially for climbers, since they have nearly a thousand climbing routes of different difficulties. Hiking is another sport very practiced in La Pedriza. Proof of this is the massive influx of people on many weekends.
The 3200 hectares that La Pedriza occupies approximately belong to the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, the largest protected area in the Community of Madrid. In this area there are abundant Mediterranean shrubs, such as rockrose, and others typical of the high mountains, such as the piorno. The fauna is also rich, especially in birds of prey and reptiles.
Occasionally this natural setting has been the scene of shooting of some films from the 1960s, spaghetti westerns basically.

es un gran batolito granítico situado en la vertiente sur de la sierra de Guadarrama, dentro del municipio español de Manzanares el Real, en el noroeste de la Comunidad de Madrid. Este berrocal está formado por numerosos riscos, paredes rocosas, canchales, arroyos y praderas. Es una zona de gran interés geológico, paisajístico y deportivo.
Las acciones mecánicas que se han ejercido sobre estas rocas durante millones de años han conformado formas muy curiosas y atractivas, sobre todo para los escaladores, ya que cuentan con cerca de mil vías de escalada de distintas dificultades. El senderismo es otro deporte muy practicado en La Pedriza. Prueba de ello es la afluencia masiva de gente que hay durante muchos fines de semana.
Las 3200 hectáreas que ocupa aproximadamente La Pedriza pertenecen al parque nacional de la Sierra de Guadarrama, el espacio protegido más grande de la Comunidad de Madrid. En esta zona abundan los matorrales mediterráneos, como la jara, y otros propios de la alta montaña, como el piorno. La fauna también es rica, especialmente en aves rapaces y reptiles.

The name Ana Kai Tangata has led to various speculations due to the different translations. On one hand, Ana, means “cave”; Tangata, means “man”; and Kai, means “to eat” in modern Rapa Nui. For which, the cave is referred to as “the cave of the cannibals” or of the “man-eaters”. However, there is no archaeological proof or any oral traditions that confirm that the Rapa Nui practiced cannibalism.
A straight-on view of the buildings on the west side of the square we first looked at yesterday. The three buildings shown here comprise the northern half of the 100 block of S. Washington St.
On the right is the Mount Pulaski House which was constructed in 1902 to replace the original 1844 Mount Pulaski House Hotel. This building was designed for three retail spaces on the first floor with office space above.
Mount Pulaski briefly held the county seat of Logan County from 1848 to 1855, after which the county seat was moved to Lincoln. Sunset and reflection captured from Barassie Beach in Ayrshire, Scotland.
The shifting sandbanks often create these slowly emptying pools as the tide goes out on the beach at Barassie. I captured this handheld at arms length with some much practiced blind aiming.
The sun setting over the Isle of Arran is one of the most beautiful benefits of living in this part of the world.

Today I had two pro photographer friends come join me in my garden to talk tech tips. They were the ones who helped me get started on “in camera” multiple exposures so I practiced more. These Ornamental Grasses were swaying in the light breeze we had and that added a nice effect of movement to this triple exposure. After taking several images within my garden, we sat under a shaded canopy to simply “ shoot the breeze” about this and that. Some of the talk was photography related and some not. For the theme “Grasses” in the group Looking Close…on Friday!
For my Thursday trail shot. We finally got to Myakka River State Park again. It opened just after Christmas from Hurricane Ian. As you can see lots of trees down and water, water everywhere! My husband treated himself to a new landscape lens so we headed out with tripods in tow and practiced landscapes and bracketing. This is five shots merged in Lightroom.
