CNW train ESGBA leaves Powers behind after doing the local work and connecting with the turn from Antoine on June 25, 1986. 6729, 6712 and 4140 have the Green Bay bound freight well in hand on a beautiful summer morning. The trailing geep is an unpleasant reminder that the Bigs are on borrowed time and will not survive 1986 in service. Only a couple months prior to this shot and the B-B trailer would have likely have been a C425 or RS32 but they were already retired and on there way to St. Louis Auto Shredding.

Same day as I shot the photo following this one in my photo stream June 25, 1986. 6717 and 4281 and 31 cars arrive at Powers on the Antoine turn. A few months earlier and that trailing geep would have been a 4 axle Alco but they were gone or nearly gone at this point leaving the big C628's to close out the Alco era on CNW in December 86. I apologize if I posted this shot earlier but it fit in here with posting all three of the trains I shot that morning in Powers.

Escanaba & Lake Superior train ELSPE with the ELS 400, in Great Northern colors heads west as it makes its way around the wye towards Hermansville, Mi. while passing the CN office building in Powers, MI.
After meeting the GBESA and the Antoine Turn in the siding east of town(railroad west) and grabbing a 30 car pick up off the Antoine turn ESGBA slowly passes the depot and heads for Green Bay on June 25, 1986. 6729, 6712 and 4140 have 61 cars in tow leaving Powers.
A great spot to start the day Alco hunting in the 70's and up through 1986 was Powers. Normally a three train meet would take place there with the Escanaba-Green Bay freights meeting the turn over from Iron Mountain. A short GBESA with 6718 leading only 8 cars is coming off the siding after meeting ESGBA which had a pair of big Alcos and a geep. The turn from Iron Mountain with a C628 and geep creeps down the siding in the distance while the caboose of ESGBA recedes into the distance on the far left, June 25, 1986.
Vintage Coca-Cola signs that are in good shape are getting harder and harder to find but every once in a while, one just pops up and is worthy of being photographed. This one is located where Highway 18 and Highway 100 meet in Toone, TN. Sometimes you can just count on rural Tennessee coming through for you...!
Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

My oldest sister once took a picture of one of her kitties playing in a discarded soda carton. So I wondered if our Frodo might like to check one out, too? Guess what? It's one of the best toys he's had to date. And the cheapest.
He has demolished this box like a crazy, possessed being with super destructive powers. The box has even been taped back up several times, hoping it'll last until we can empty out another box for him to play with. :-)
**It's now July and in just the six months since he's been with us he has transformed from a skiddish, hungry little stray who showed up one cold February day into a happy kitty who now loves to play with the bestest cat toys ever!
I had to stitch 4 images together to get this shot. I tried hard to give you a feel of how beautiful Powers Court is.This image doesn't even come close to giving you a feel of what it is like. It is an amazing place and a must visit for any photographer!!!
