We wanted to go out for dinner at this local small restaurant in the town of Vagliagli in Tuscany, Italy. The small terrace was full, so they sat us down in the street in front of a garage door. When we sat down, it was pitch black. So we asked if he had a light. "Sure I do", and he pulled a powercable from somewhere and plugged it into an outdoor power outlet. *Flash!* And on went this big bright halogen lamp. So there we were, in the middle of a street, drawing lots of attention because of the spotlight effect...

And then I realized, this is the kind of holiday moment you want to capture. So here are the girls, just before we asked for a candle instead...

There is a bridge over the Colorado River downstream of Hoover Dam across Black Canyon. The towers carry electricity from the generators at the bottom of the canyon and connect to the power grid. They are at an angle to keep the cables well away from the canyon walls.

Artist Irma Braat painted the alley from this angle. The tilted traffic sign, the powercable, the differing lamps. Doesn't look like much, but still...
