On the grounds of the power station there used to be a disused railway depot, which in 1983 was in ruins. All photos in this set were taken on a rainy day.
The gates to the site were left open and i managed to get in. I later found out that there was a film crew shooting an action sequence on that day and I must have blended in with my camera. I was eventually spotted and had to join the crew as there was one prop set to explode.

Battersea Power Station on the bank of The River Thames has become one of London's most iconic buildings, despite being inoperative since 1983. Now a Grade 2 listed building, planned re-development will preserve many of the features, including the Art Deco interior and the chimneys. However, the plans put the building at the centre of a complex of new housing and other buildings and many views of the station, including this one from St George Wharf in Vauxhall, will change completely as all but the chimneys become obscured by modern edifices.
The EBRD manages the Ignalina International Decommissioning Support Fund (IIDSF) which supports the development and implementation of key decommissioning and energy sector projects in Lithuania. To assist Lithuania with the decommissioning process, the European Commission together with 14 European governments set up the Ignalina International Decommissioning Support Fund (IIDSF) at the EBRD in 2001.
Lithuania had one nuclear power plant with two units at Ignalina. Both units were Soviet-designed RBMK 1500 reactors.
As part of the EU accession process, Lithuania agreed to the early closure of its reactors: Ignalina unit 1 was shut down at the end of 2004 and unit 2 at the end of 2009.
Dismantling works began in 2010 including mechanical and thermal cutting to reduce secondary waste, to optimise radiation protection.
To date 20% of the total equipment has been dismantled by INPP’s retained personnel. The plant’s preexisting personnel were retained to help in the decommissioning works.
17,000 RBMK spent nuclear fuel rods will be removed from the old Units, secured, and transported 2 kilometers to the newly built Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility.
Construction works at the interim spent fuel storage facility and the solid radioactive waste management facility are complete. The spent fuel storage facility started operating in October 2016 and the radioactive waste facility is expected to be operational in 2017.
Safe storage of spent fuel and the ability to safely handle and store radioactive waste produced during dismantling works, are key prerequisites for future decommissioning activities.
Rebuilding of Lithuania’s Energy Sector
The IIDSF has financed energy sector development projects which are an integral part of the closure of the Ignalina plant.
The control room for Lithuania’s energy sector manages the export of electricity supply to neighboring European countries.
With the decommissioning of Ignalina, Lithuania went from being a net exporter to a net importer of energy. IIDSF helped fund upgrades to plants such as the Elektrenai Power Plant to help fill the supply deficit.

In the 1840's, Bayliss E. Grace, Sr., an early Alabama newspaper editor living near Elyton, became convinced that the dye-rock exposed along Montevallo Road was in fact iron ore. At Grace's Gap on his land on Red Mountain, Mr. Grace cut into an outcrop and sent a wagon-load of rock to be smelted at Jonathan Newton Smith's Forge in Bibb County. The sample proved that the rock was iron ore and produced a good wrought iron which was formed into bars and distributed to blacksmiths in Jones Valley.
Thus, the Spaulding Red Iron Ore mine was founded by the Pioneer Company on the side of Mr. Grace's diggings. In 1899 the Pioneer Company sold its interest to Republic Steel which continued to operate the mine until 1966.
Today all that remains of the neglected mine are the lare circular reinforced concrete filtration pools on the North end of the site. At the other end there stands a large two-level concrete retaining wall, featuring steel piers which extends to a power house and the mine entrances.
From the present standing structures it is hard to realize that the Spaulding Red Iron Ore Mine was once significant to the industrial development of early Birmingham, Alabama.

This is my entry for the FBTB TMNT TMNV contest. It's called the "Power of 4". 4 individual turtles each doing their own thing, 4 letters 'TMNT', and the 4 mysterious letters 'TCRI'.

Compact powered bogie design based on the design that Tony and Shup developed a while back. The 16t gears will clear switches due to the larger black o-rings on the wheels.
The issue with this design is that the bogie torques to the side when driven and does not negotiate switches too well. Tony suggested spacing the wheels out some. I haven't tried yet.
Motor- generators produced 100hz power these transformers stepped the voltage up so it can be sent along the tracks to the various signals. Taken 1962.
Members of our local camera club organized a trip to visit the Eagle River Dam Power House on the Wabigoon River west of Dryden, Ontario. The Power House was originally built in 1929. The "modern" power house we visited has a water turbine that has been running since 1938 and lots of the equipment is from the original installation.

The pole that's in between the two sets of power lines is quite an interesting setup. It's used as a connecting "bridge" between the two circuits before they separate. These poles and power lines are owned by the Magnolia Electric Power (MEP).
