I made two shelves of some leftover balm(?) wood I had. The room is looking way more cosy already. I wish I had a narrow bench or something to add to it..

"After a quick half-a-dozen bacon sandwiches each, they pulled on their coats and Mrs Weasley took a flowerpot off the kitchen mantelpiece and peered inside.

‘He’s never travelled by Floo powder,’ said Ron suddenly.

[...]

’You must speak clearly, dear,’ Mrs Weasley told Harry."

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 4

Totally cumbersome, idiotic and backward, this Floo Powder system. I wondered what happened right after they invented it - suddenly every household needed to enlarge its fireplace times three? Imagine arriving in a muggle sized one… Anyway, now we know why the Weasleys have this massive fireplace.

I took some creative liberties here, using dark orange and shape-wise, since the one in the movie is bland and boring. It was important to me to create one different from Marcel’s Gryffindor fireplace but at the same time have something that was simple enough for the Weasleys. Not easy, with the magnificent and intimidating version that his is!

There's a small rug with a Weasley tartan right in front - not sure how practical that might be in the long run with all the ash though.

I do like the arch just above of the opening. It's construction is actually quite simple and uses a couple of clips but it's look is nice. The rug took me a while but it was worth the effort I think. The colors work well and the pattern is nice, too.

This series is obviously heavily inspired by my friend Marcel who did the inspirational undertaking of doing a series of daily builds covering Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone last month. Please follow him as his work is amazing and deserves way more views than it currently has!

Thank you, Marcel, for allowing me to continue what you started. You are indeed a wizard.

It's amazing how a little powder and paint can make a pigs ear into a silk purse. Trying the curly hair again as I fancy a change for tomorrow night

When I took this photo, I first thought this is a church, but it's not . . .

I learnt that this is a Kruithuis (Gunpowder House). Seen in Stellenbosch, South Africa. It was built in 1777. Today the building is used as a museum.

Thank you for your visits / comments / faves!

Two skiers making "eights" on Alta's East Baldy face. It's been a few days since we had a storm but terrain openings like this keep making untouched snow available. Next storm is supposed to be here on Wednesday.

Found out after the fact that these two were skiing for a video.

What an insane winter we're having in Utah! I think we've had over 6 feet of new snow in less than 10 days and more is on the way in just a couple of days. Bonus: the sun came up this morning and delivered a surprise bluebird powder day. I'll never get tired of taking photos like this.

I believe this was the powder magazine at Fort Anne in Annapolis Royal N.S.

The roof style makes it look like a relic from the French, who had a fort on the site before the British.

UP 8024 brought more than a heavy hauler through Yuba Gap, it brought the weather with it. Once the train arrived, the light flakes of powder soon turned into fat snowflakes. Enough to coat the ballast, and enough to bring out the chain law on Interstate 80.

Our visit to the Hagley Museum put us in the middle of gunpowder history. In 1802 Dupont he sited and began building the mill along the Brandywine River near Wilmington. Brandywine River Powder Mills produced its first gunpowder in 1803. Started as a large-scale, sophisticated manufactory, Brandywine maintained operations for 119 years. The Brandywine River Powder Mills performed shell loading and some smokeless nitrations during World War I. On this property there are 8 rolling mills water wheel & water turbine in different degrees of decay. Brandywine Creek on one side and a man-made water sloth on the other side of the mills kept the powder yard safe from the risk of explosion.
