Approx. 1mL of strontium carbonate, 1mL of sulfur, about 1mL sodium nitrate, 1mL of sugar and about 0.01mL of manganese carbonate was ground together and placed on top of a piece of chalcedony. It was ignited with a match and immediately burst into bright yellow flame which burned for a couple of seconds. This resulted in a hard grey melted substance that was quite luminescent.
This mixture was named "Gorn Powder" in reference to a Star Trek episode wherein an alien (the Gorn) was defeated using a mixture of a nitrate, sulfur and carbon (aka "black powder").

This photo was taken using the sound trigger I made for about $40.00. The exposure was 10 sec at F9 with a Speedlite mounted off to the right hand side set at 1/32. The 10 sec exposure is only required to allow yourself to set the sound trigger up, pick up your pin on a stick then have a couple of swings in the dark at the balloon.
If anyone is interested in the sound trigger feel free to ask. I may go in to production yet.
