In 1924 the well known Berlin publishing house of Ullstein launched a new magazine UHU. The issues published In the decade of its existance are now regarded as important documents of the social history of the Weimar period.
This wonderful poster, one of a series, is by Busso Malchow, using the owl that was the symbol of the Ullstein publishing house, is reproduced in a 1925 issue of Gebrauchsgraphik. What a marvellous look on that owl's face!

New movie poster design and illustration I did for Jameson Whiskey's First Shot produced by Kevin Spacey and starring Adrien Brody, a Trigger Street Productions. The movie will premiere in Hollywood LA this Saturday June 26th. We fly down to LA this Friday from Vancouver, just a few days after we land from our 2 month stay in Toronto. We hope to see all these famous faces there this weekend.
I was commissioned to design and illustrate was for Stephen Tempier's winning script called 'Boredom' and the creative development was just based on the text of the movie which I worked on while on vacation in the Mediterranean (I know, what a hard life). Every word on the poster was also done by hand to match my quirky hand drawn illustrations. Here are a few photos from my work process. Video to release soon by the folks at Jameson.

We will pull no punches nor silly puns, and put together a poster for a boxing event, for the second tutorial exploring the complete vintage designer’s kit.
The process will have us explore the customization abilities of the bundle’s typefaces, layout ideas to accommodate the long swashes and tall capital letters, and weathering tips and tricks.

This work addresses the concerns of breast cancer prevention, awareness and treatment.
Two examples, reproduced in black and white, of posters by A. Paxton Chadwick. They appear in the 1927 Commercial Art Annual, Posters and Publicity.
A. Paxton Chadwick (1903 - 1961) was a local Mancunian who at this date was just setting up shop as a commercial artist in the city. He went on to become a teacher at Summerhill at Leiston in Suffolk and is best recalled as being one of the "Suffolk Artists". At this time he had some connection, I suspect, with local advertising agent C.W. Hobson who had, in 1921, set up the Cloister Press in the city and Paxton Chadwick did work for them as well as for the Manchester Ship Canal Company.
The first poster is for one of the various "Civic Weeks" that were in Manchester, and other cities, features of the inter-war years. This is for the Pageant that took place in Heaton Park. Manchester's first Civic Week was held in 1926, and there is both a Manchester Guardian Supplement as well as an official handbook to the event that took place between 2nd and 6th October so I suggest thsi poster is from 1926 and that would make sense being in a 1927 annual.
The second poster is for a one man show of his work to be held at 2 Mount Street in the city centre. Again undated I wonder if this too dates from 1926.
A number of posters can be seen on display in Bangor Post Office, including Loading mails at the dock in London. 1934.

There were several projects that I got to oversee, design, and guide the overall art direction to Hasana's marketing materials — a 16-page LookBook highlighting nine different collections of jewelry, the website is in development, but pages are still in development, Event Posters for the launch party, and 9 different informational cards defining the inspiration and designer for each collection of Hasana. This is a poster I was commissioned to design for the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMA) national anti-tobacco drive. The A3 sized poster appeared in all Masajids across South Africa (approximately 800 masaajids). My idea was to centrally place a bold graphic of an ashed cigarette to capture the reader's attention and enforce the idea of squashing a bad smoking habit. Maintaining a constant colour theme also added to the visual attractiveness of the poster.

Since their newest album features a good amount of references to the moon, the night sky, and various types of darkness, this felt like a nice, simple execution. This was designed to be a 3-color print with the hope that the 3rd would be a pass of glow-in-the-dark ink.
