Archive13, Chicago's annual ritual of adding to it's regional design cannon that dates back to 1869.
Matt Wizinsky of UIC's Innovation Lab and Nick Adam from Firebelly Design have partnered in working together on the Archive13 communications. In an act of nowness they decided to build their own tools for creating the look & feel. In other words, aside from creating communication materials they built a custom image glitching software and a typeface based upon every major alphabetic evolution covering proto-sinaitic, phoenician, greek, et cetera and so forth. You can see the posters Matt and I have worked on here.

A little bit of history
Indian film poster artists have left an indelible mark on our minds. Hand painted posters were not only a means of advertising but a representation of culture. Back in time, film releases were preceded with the most popular form of advertising prevalent then – film posters plastered on crowded streets, followed by large billboards overlooking busy marketplaces. Although the exact origin of the use of hand painted posters in film advertising in India are not certain, they can be traced way back to the 1920s. Rapid growth of Indian cinema from the 1950s onwards (referred to by many as the “golden period”) fueled demand for outdoor film advertising. Talented artists from across India responded to this need by specializing themselves in the trade of creating hand painted film posters and billboards and taking up the practice as their full time profession. Putting soul into their paintings, these master artists created lifelike impressions of some of the biggest icons in the Indian film business, and thus the magic of hand painted billboards and film posters was born.
Their colours captured the shades of characters and reflected the intensity and drama behind the scenes they represented. Many poster artists used unique colours to portray negative or positive shades of characters, such as blue being synonymous with evil, red signifying anger or revenge, and pink portraying love. Such was their mastery, that they made the streets of India come alive with their unique colours and painting styles that became virtually synonymous with Indian cinema. During their prime, the presence of massive hand painted billboards outside theater halls delivered an unforgettable visual treat, pushing the definition of film poster art beyond advertising, and metamorphosing it into a cultural icon instead.
In 1990, when television had officially taken over outdoor advertising as the mainstay medium of film publicity, the emphasis on hand painted movie billboards and posters dwindled rapidly. In 1992, the digital printing revolution delivered the final nail in the coffin, closing the curtains on this traditional art.
Poster For the 2011 SHS Girls Soccer Teams. This is hung up all over town to promote the team. The goal was to create the look of a rough, tough, soccer team. Not very easy to accomplish with such an attractive bunch of girls!
It was a fun shoot, we used dry ice for fog with blue gel'd speed lights from behind and two alien bees 800s in horizontal strip boxes left and right and a white lightening 1600 in a large softbox centered. Triggered using both radio poppers and SU4 mode on the strobes.

A common problem for students studying health and social care related subjects in HE is that they can access the web on any number of devices which do not necessarily have automatic syncing of bookmarked web pages enabled. There is also a related problem of sharing, as well as discovering relevant online resources. A potential solution to these problems is a social bookmarking application such as Yahoo!'s “delicious”. Results from previous studies using this service suggest that social bookmarking shares similar features to more traditional indexing systems but also contains extra dimensions such as tags related to time. We present the initial results from a study into social bookmarking that has encouraged three groups, containing over thirty health and social care students, to utilise delicious in their everyday practice and to create a tagged repository of resources that are relevant to their courses. We will discuss the preparation of introductory materials as well as specific problems faced by health and social care students in using Web 2.0 applications. We will also present the results of analyses into the patterns of tagging and bookmarking activity that have emerged in addition to the types of tags that are being used.

CMS utilizes a distributed infrastructure of computing centers to provide access to data stored on disk only at Tier-2 centers and tape with disk caches at Tier-1 centers. Attached are CPU resources for organized processing and analysis. Data is organized in datasets which consist of files grouped in blocks for performance reasons. CMS uses it's data transfer system PhEDEx, to transfer datasets from site to site and its data bookkeeping service DBS to track location and metadata. Integrated over the whole system, even in the first year of data taking, the available disk storage approaches 10 petabytes of space. Maintaining consistency between the data bookkeeping service, the data transfer system, and physical storage is an important operational task which guarantees uninterrupted data availability.
"Though not as slick as the fully painted and highly atmospheric American original, this vibrant Spanish poster for Universal’s House of Dracula (1945) renders its floating head portraits in simple line art and primary colors, to great effect.
Counting down the assembled monsters, that’s Glenn Strange as El Monstruo, John Carradine as the mustachioed Dracula, Lon Chaney’s Wolf Man, Onslow Stevens as the very loco doctor, and Jane Adams as the sympathetic nurse, listed among the horrors by virtue of being — Oooo scary! — hunchbacked."
