Despite all my whinging, something that you can't help but notice in the Wellington region, is that there are a fair few trains running around.
We went up to Waikanae on Thursday evening just after rush hour. We missed the capital connection, but even though the pulpliner goes to Napier now, saw the Northern Explorer and three freight trains between Pukerua Bay and McKay's crossing. Two freights (one that we'd seen earlier) crossed near Waikanae over dinner at a nice Cambodian hole in the wall, and then two more freights crossed near Paremata on the way home. These being chased by the Castlecliff train about an hour later, and six more trains before the morning rush begins. And the trains aren't piddlers either.
I don't recall seeing that volume of excitement in the bad old days.
After years of asset stripping and cutting up wagons, the log fleet has been replenished and bits of trees are streaming down to Wellington from up north, the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay. After some teething troubles, 1000 better-riding and stronger container wagons are out in force. The red curtainsider wagons and containers seem to be a hit, as does the partnership with Mainfreight.
If nothing else, I hope I wasn't the only one on the roads that night that appreciated the several hundred truckloads of freight that were running on the steel highway and not mine. Be nice if the country's politicians were reminded of this from time to time.

This is another example of a celebrity using the media to promote positive body image. When the media was calling Jennifer Love Hewitt fat, she didn't develop an eating disorder or cower in a corner and cry. Instead, she used it as a lesson to urge women to stay strong and remain beautiful the way that they are.
Double 'A' - the brand new Royal Air Force Panavia Tornado F.2 ZD901/AA seen with No.229OCU at RAF Coningsby on the 2nd of April 1985.
The F.2 and F.3 was the designated Air Defence Variant (ADV) of the standard 'Multi-Role Combat Aircraft' (MRCA) Tornado that replaced the Phantoms and the Lightnings before them in that capacity.
The O/C of 229OCU, Wg Cdr Rick Peacock-Edwards had kindly invited me for a private tour of their new mounts as the Unit began working up.
The early mark Tornado F.2's suffered with radar issues and were eventually replaced by the F.3 but not before some airframes had been cannibalised where the centre fuselage sections were used on some F.3's.
In this case ZD901 was mated with ZE154 - the first F.3 which in the end was scrapped in August 2002.

Lightning and the Southern Cross, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
Over the last couple of weeks we have been getting evening thunderstorms here on the East Coast of the North Island (not that common an occurrence) and I have been trying to get some lightning shots over that time, generally without success. This is the best I managed to get late one evening with a storm out over Cape Kidnappers (that is Cape Kidnappers light just to the right of the 2 lightning strikes), and I managed to get the Southern Cross in the shot as well.

This 35mm Polapan film expired in September 1992, 30 years ago.
When I tried to process, the flip lever of the Polaroid processor, broke off, After rewinding the developer strip (The film had remained in the cartridge and the developer pouch was still sealed) I tried it in another processor.
This time it worked -somewhat..
In many expired Polaroid slide films the black developer layer sticks to the positive after rewinding and has to be rubbed off manually under running water. This scratches the ultra-thin silver layer that is on the surface and not embedded in an emulsion.
I stilll like the results.

Oktober 2020
I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping these days, which is unusual for me. After doing some research on the internet (helpfully, I preemptively ruled out cancer as a cause), I've decided to up my running mileage and yoga practice.
I just got back from an 8 mile run and took a shower. Nap, here I come? And even if exercise doesn't help me sleep, it does help me feel in control of my body. So, that's positive!
The North Charleston Police Department is partnering with local non-profit organization Metanoia to pilot a “Positive Ticketing” campaign in select North Charleston neighborhoods. The ultimate goal of the campaign will be to strengthen community-police partnerships and to encourage youth towards positive behavior.

This shows dominant positive volume because with one of Christina's hands being extended while her body is shifted to the right gives the photo a sense of substance and weight, when Christina finally hears a knock at the door!
Good things:
TINY OWL DRESS!
I sewed this all today. I am irrationally excited. The pattern started as New Look P6749, but I added darts, curved princess seams and doubled faced hems. And married the smallest bust with the biggest butt. The dress also features my first fabulously invisible zipper. I am over the moon about this.
The fabric was a sheet I found at Walmart. Like you do.

78 FotografandoVIDA, na campanha "AJUDE a Abraçar com o seu OLHAR)
TEXTO DO ERNANIB:
Ajude!!! Divulge!!! Dê corda nesses pequenos relógios de vida.

We have time for watching TV, reading the papers or a good book but we never have time for reading a message asking for help.
But there are the ones who don’t have any more time to lose. The ones who didn’t have time to plant. That barely have time to play. That won’t have time to say “I love you, mom, dad”. Because someone, somewhere didn’t have time to read this message, to try to know what it means, to try to know how to help. Because many times who could help don’t have the time, because it’s not an investment with short term interest or because thinks its time is too valuable to spend with somenone who doesn’t have that much time.
Stop for a moment.Try to read and get informed. The children that are about to say their goodbyes to life will be thankful for these few moments you took to help them.. Don’t let their life clocks stop just because you didn’t want to waste your time. Help them! Spread the word! Wind up these little life clocks

Carta do Padre Alfredo
IBCM
Prezado Amigo,a,
Feliz Natal!
pe Alfredo
