The arm should be at about a 105 degree angle while holding the home position on the violin. The left wrist should never bend. It makes it more difficult to hold down the strings. The neck should never rest on your thumb, that is what leads to the wrist bending. The body of the violin should have a chin rest at the bottom. Mostly the left side of your jaw will be sitting in the rest, but the tip of your chin will also be there. The violin should rest between your left shoulder and your collar bone.

A collection of those iron jockeys that one used to use to tie horses to. I don't know the proper name for them.

FlickR friend www.flickr.com/photos/helle-belle/ has been so kind to tag me

Ten things about me, thats all true. Hmmmm

Think I will use this opportunity get to some things of my chest

1) June 2008 I began to see the world with different eyes (a DSLR came into my hands). I could see the pain, sorrow, grief, joy, happiness and all the beautiful smiles.

2) We have a cat called "Nuni". Hannah named her after the vacuum cleaner (Noo-Noo) in Teletobbies. Guess she could not remenber the real name back then. Hehe

It took Maj-Britt and I 3 months to find out where Hannah got the name "Nuni" from

3) Every time I see my daughter, she has learned something new. She is growing up so fast.

4) I'm very mad at my mother for not forcing me to take piano lessons as a child. I would have loved to play the piano.

5) Even though I won't admit it, I think I live a stressed life right know.

6) Photographer Joe McNally is like a mentor (mentor is a big word, do I dare say it?). Check him out. He just have the greatest lifephilosophy.

7) I havent seen my father, since I was 3 years old. He died newyears day 2004. I had so many things to tell him. He left me with another sister and brother. Now I have two of each. I began to see them 2 years ago. Very surreal.

8) I'm planing a phototrip to Rome, Italy next year. I hope with my good friend Paw. Maj-Britt (wife) doesn't know yet.

9) Right now I'm sitting (witch is a rest position supported by the buttocks or thighs where the torso is more or less upright, Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitting)

in the train from Skive Jutland going to work in Copenhagen Airport. Let me tell you there is nothing "resting" about 5½ hours in danish trains. Hehe

10) Ooooooh my god, I reached ten. My biggest wish:

Please comment on my photos some more, I need the "pad on the back". Just kidding. Thanks everyone for taking the time to visit my photostream.

enjoying a fine labyrinth in chinatown, after 30km ride from tokyo in winter wind, my body was getting chilled with fingers frozen, and gradually appearing the worry about another 30km to ride back home. but, soon after that, warm and delicious chinese cuisine warmed and cheering up me :-)

This is a photograph from the first running of the newly situated Irish 3/4 Marathon (formerly the Athlone 3/4) which was held in Longwood, Enfield, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 9th of October 2016 at 10:00. The event is positioned perfectly in the calendar as a key training race before the Dublin City Marathon at the end of the month. This year was the first year that the event was held in Longwood, Co. Meath which is now well known for its hosting of the Longwood 10KM/5KM annual races and a host venue for East of Ireland Marathon series marathons on a bi-annual basis. The race started and finished at Longwood GAA club just outside the village of Longwood. It followed an anti-clockwise course around the beautiful picturesque countryside of south Meath. The course went through the townlands of Longwood, Castlerickard, Killyon, Hill-of-Down, Anneville and Ashfield Clonard, Blackshare, Stoneyford and back to Longwood. The river Boyne and Blackwater were crossed as was the Royal Canal and the Dublin-Sligo Railway line at Hill-of-Down. Overall this was a very different course to the previous years in Athlone. The overall elevation of the course works out at 3/4 of the total elevation of the Dublin Marathon course. What most stood out about today's race was the course and how the countryside around it looked on a beautiful almost perfect Autumn morning. The organisation of the race was first class with every detail taken care of from the start until the finish.

There is a very large set of photographs from today's race - taken at the start in Longwood village, the 25KM mark outside our home and at about 17 miles at the top of Blackshade Bridge and the highest point of elevation on the course. They are available on our Flickr photostream at the following set. www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157673672195732

NOTE: These are completely unofficial photographs are not connected commercially with the Irish 3/4 marathon event photography. Please check the Official Website irish3quartermarathon.ie/ for official photographs and other media.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

American Speedfest 8 Returned to Brands Hatch for another Fantastic American themed weekend Featuring the likes of Euro Nascar Legends and even Angelo American Formula 5000's Racing this weekender event was shaping up to be a good one.

The First Day was mostly focused on Qualifying with many of the Races taking Place on the Sunday. Each of the Teams was both busy in the outer Paddock and the Pitlane getting their cars ready for a shakedown session in which they would have to Qualify to see who could be the Fastest and take Pole Position for each of the Races come Sunday.

Angelo American Formula 5000

The Formula 5000's made a Thunderous return to the Brands Hatch circuit, Built during a time where many Formula 1 cars from the likes of Lotus Williams and McLaren we using Ground Effect and pushing up the speeds of their cars.

Newly acquired WR Anquan Boldin fights off his coverage to go for a deep pass

Battalion War Diary plan of the 1/5th Battalion RSR attack in support of the advance of 2/RSR on 09/05/1915. The Machine gun positions that enfiladed the Sussex men are marked on and to the left of the Cinder Track.

BATTLE OF AUBERS

At 5.30am on 09/05/1915 Pte George Short, G/1173 and men of 2nd Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment advanced from this position, to the right of the Cinder Track, towards the German front line, approximately 200 yards distant. Enfiladed by machine gun fire from their left and facing uncut barbed wire defences, the battalion took heavy casualties.

Supporting the 2/RSR, a sister battalion the 1/5th RSR also advanced with the last elements of 2/RSR to leave their front line trenches and were similarly pinned down, all advance halting by 6am.

The men were unable to withdraw and took cover where they could, George and his pals scraping depressions in the earth with their entrenching tools. George was to lie under fire in the middle of no mans land (the middle of the green field) for twelve and a half hours until darkness finally fell and he was able to retrace the short distance to the British Front Line.

The 2/RSR reported casualties of 14 officers and 548 other ranks out of approximately 800 who had advanced (273 killed in action).

BATTLE OF THE BOAR'S HEAD

Just over a year later, at 3.05am on 30/06/1916, it was the turn of 11th 12th and 13th Battalions, Royal Sussex Regiment to attack a German position called the Boar's Head which had formed to the left of the Cinder Track since the attack of 09/05/1915. The attack was conceived as a Brigade size action to act as a diversion to the main attack that was being launched by the British Army further to the south on the Somme.

The German front line had been pushed back a little, and the front line that 2 & 1/5th RSR had attacked in 1915 was now the British front line. Once again success was thwarted by the strengthened German defences, and the three Sussex "Southdowns" Battalions suffered 366 killed and over 1000 wounded or taken prisoner.

This is the first exercise in the Lighting 102 article at strobist.com, which examines the angle of light.

Using my very small setup (lone SB-600) I set to 1/64th power the whole time, with the speedlight zoomed to 24mm. Shutter was set to 1/200th (max flash sync on the D80) with an aperture of f/5.6, ISO of 200, using the built in flash as a commander (CLS).

Speedlight was about 45 degress camera left for this shot note the shadow to the right

didn't look behind before he pulled out though

The monument to Sir George St Paul (d1613) and his family, is a towering alabaster monument, which stands against the north chancel wall.

He was twice MP for Lincolnshire, County Sheriff and a leading magistrate. He was knighted by James I in 1607 and in 1611 became one of the first Lincolnshire gentlemen to gain the new title of hereditary baronet.

He married the then 15 year old Frances Wray and they then had their only child Mattathia, who unfortunately died at the age of 1 year and ten months.

The couple are posed in what is commonly known as, the toothache position.

Cables have been passed under the wreck and led up over the large pulleys overhanging the dock edges. The cables are connected by block and tackle to hand winches, which have handles for men to wind in the cables

I'm learning how to light correctly! lol :) This exercise actually really clicked with me...I'd always heard this idea described, but could never seem to recreate it. This assignment helped me do that, and I feel like I finally understand it a little better. :) Horray!

A typical Lincolnshire style Type-22 pillbox, positioned on sea bank, it was built using wooden shuttering, 12in thick bullet proof walls finished with a rough render as camouflage. There is a full height entrance with a Pistol Loophole and no internal Anti-Ricochet Wall, all loopholes had concrete shelves which have been removed, presumably post war ? The loopholes have projecting exterior sills, of which several are missing, underneath the loopholes are small concrete blocks to provide extra protection. There is a steel pipe protruding through the roof, not sure of their purpose ?

Freiston Shore was fortified in 1940 against enemy landing, the area lies at the edge of the Fen landscape east of Boston at a point where it merges with salt marsh and sand banks before the open sea. In 1940-41, the shore coastal area was part of ‘A’ Sector of the Lincolnshire coast, defended in July 1940 by the 131st Infantry Brigade, and then later by the 212th Infantry Brigade, of the 1st (Lincoln County) Division of I Corps.

In addition to the battalion forward defended localities, Freiston Shore was also the site of an Emergency Coast Defence Battery which was operational by mid-June 1940, the two 6in MkVII Guns being manned by the 321st Coast Battery RA, the gun emplacements were disguised as bungalows, with camouflage pitched roofs.

In 1940 troops at Freiston Shore were from the 1/5th Queen’s Royal Regiment, and later, towards the end of July, the 1st Bn. Duke of Wellington’s Regiment when the pillboxes were completed. In March 1941, the Boston Battalion was the 10th Bn Gloucestershire Regiment which carried out a reorganisation of the defences. The pillboxes were stocked with ammunition, grenades, and food and water, the white concrete was darkened with mud, and sharp outlines broken up by earth and grass. Accommodation for the defending troops at Freiston Shore, when not on duty, was in the nearby Marine Hotel and Nissen Huts.

Alongside the RSPB Carpark at the Shore is a tall Type-22 pillbox with a solid upper structure probably intended as the base for an Anti-aircraft Gun. It is rendered with pebble dashing to assist in its camouflage. Between the gun emplacements of the coastal battery is a rectangular three-bayed ‘Lincolnshire 3-Bay Pillbox with the Anti-Aircraft Gun mount still present in its central open chamber.

The battery at Freiston Shore was an Examination Battery so the Navy could escort suspect merchant ships to anchor under the guns, until cleared to proceed. It was therefore manned by regular troops well into the war and later by the home guard after the threat of invasion had become less acute. The evidence of a number of pill boxes still remain along the bank at Freiston Shore.
