I only managed to capture a few shots before having to dodge out of here as the swells and giant waves picked up pretty quick just after sunset. I wanted a composition with a combination of high wave motion and a fall and this one comes the closest out of the 8 shots that I took for the shoot. This is the Spitting Cave area in East Oahu.

NS NV02 sits at Berkley Ave with an NW SD40-2 leading.

C&A makes it up north to Chesapeake, Virginia and has grabbed what they need from Portlock yard and head south to tie down at Woodlake drive.

NS 275 begins to pick up speed after getting a new crew and heading to Portlock. Very happy this train had the Central of Georgia leading, now im 19/20 and super close to getting all of them. Yes, Yes it was

NS 273 after waiting for locals to clear and having PTC problems, finally makes it to George Washington Highway with six engines all facing elephant style.

I woke up at 6:30 for the shot and the train didn't show up until 2:10. I spent those hour looking for the BNSF engine with no luck. I spent hours at Portlock look for it but came empty handed. However I knew it was around because I heard 273 on the scanner. Finally i founds them with a bonus three dash nines which put a smile on my face. I then had to figure out where i wanted to shoot the train at. I was thinking about a field shot but i had just shot that spot and wanted something new. So i designed to finally shoot on the George Washington Highway Bridge. Thinking the train would be here in the next 20 minutes, i waited on top of the bridge for the train; However, The lead unit started having PTC problems so that held them up a bit. Im super happy with this shot even though it very basic, No one i know of has shot here so im glad i was able to do it some justice

NS NV43 sits underneath a signal bridge just near west end portlock with a SD40-2 on a intermodal working the yard.

After picking up a huge consist from NS in Portlock Yard, NB90 pulls back towards Berkley Yard with the train now led by NPBL GP38-2 5260, while a transfer with a long hood forward SD40-2 and double stacks heads up the wye towards Carolina Junction.

The NIT trains are always a unique catch to see on the Norfolk sub. One locomotive pulling a full size stack train down a branch line is to common these days. Goal is to eventually try and shot these trains deeper in Norfolk, Virginia to see them making their way downtown but they’re not the easiest to see. The old ford plant tends to be the best spot to have good fortune with catching these trains, hence why most of my shots would be located here.

Another thing to note is that are good friend Chelsea was on board today with this train, Chelsea is a well know conductor in the area and gives frequent heads ups on trains she takes to Norfolk.

A fantastic backyard, a pool overlooking the vast pacific ocean, and view of Diamond Head... Hawaii is terrible, don't ever come here :) I wish this was my backyard. This was taken while I was setting up a customers entertainment center at his muti-million dollar mansion in Portlock, Hawaii Kai. I really like the different colors of blue water from shallow to deep.

This is also me saying I'm officially not going to do anymore "straight horizon seascape vertoramas" for a little while. I feel like I've been way over shooting them. I'm just going to shoot some other stuff for a bit.

Bottom half tonemapped from 6 exposures and touched up with the 0 exposure. Top half is a digital blend of 2 exposures. Stitched in CS2, added curves, saturation, and unsharp mask.

NS 273 begins to crawl out of Portlock yard in Chesapeake Virginia to Bridge 7 with a UP ACe leading the charge.

Porlock Weir, North Devon

With the reroutes still taking places on the Norfolk sub, We’re fortunate enough to see CSX power running through South Norfolk and daylight no less. CSX 4530 was are leader for today’s reroutes and heads to westend portlock to head back to home rails.

NS 6091 pulls into east end portlock with a ex NW SD40-2 leading the charge.

NS 279 I believe, heads down to Portlock after clearing bridge 5 with NS 1042 leading the power move.

NS 271 pulls into east end portlock with the Erie heritage unit leading. The crew was out of time and was very tired and got picked up shortly after and a new crew pick up the Erie and put it on V07.

Also side note, what i can only assume are bad orders coal cars on the side tracks.

Chesapeake and Albemarle Railroad kept GP38-2 #502, which yes is ex FEC in almost the same condition that one could be convinced that they are catching a pretty pure GPIF unit in 2021. The 502 retains more of the candy cane look than the 508, 510, and even the 511 as it leads the weekly interchange traffic out of NS Portlock Yard in Chesapeake, VA bound on the original Norfolk (&) Southern tracks towards Elizabeth City, NC at the aptly named NS Junction.

With NS having issues with the switch are Carolina Junction on the Norfolk sub, NS personnel had to come and switch everything by hand to let C&A into Portlock today. 2116 was are leader today making its way over old Atlantic avenue with a pretty big size train for the interchange.

As I come to the classic Portlock road crossing, i capture NS 811 beginning its trip back to the mines with two EMD yelling through South Norfolk. Nice to see a UP on this train let alone a SD70M. Coal/Hopper trains are quit rare to see with foreign power so this was a nice treat.

Golden hour strikes and the sun begins to set early as it is winter months. Portlock yard release one more train before night fall being NS 273. 7654 is are leader today and with only a couple of containers and a bunch of well cars, 273 waste no time with blasting off from the Westend Portlock Signals in Chesapeake, Virginia.

NS 811 rolls around the corner near the belt line diamond with a double up coal train with over 200 cars and 2 DPU's. I new the crew on bored this train and was able to get some waves from the crew today.

Amtrak 185 clears NS junction with P42DC #44 leading its way to Harbor Park on a very cloudy afternoon.

Suffolk, VA - 27 FEB 2022

NS 1138 leading NS 4161 and NS 616 providing power on this day for intermodal train 29G, originating from Portlock Yard in Norfolk, VA as it heads northwest through Suffolk, VA at Lake Meade Road bound for Columbus, OH.

This is what welcomed me this morning.....I should head down there and see if I can find that pot of gold huh?!

Two Norfolk Southern SD40-2 work east end Portlock yard with a former NW engine trailing.

This is a pretty rare move for the area because these SD40's normally work Lamberts point, so to see them all the way down in Portlock was a surprise

The Chesapeake and Albemarle is about to go through some crazy changes here in the on coming months. C&A just received a new GP38-2 from Georgia Central to replace the aging GP7u 2158. There are new rumors of a GP40 coming to the shortline as well. My guess is there trying to get new geeps to replace there 2 GP7u and return the leased GP10. Its a truly sad sight for myself as i have grew up with these engines and its sad to see them go, but i guess its nice to see the C&A get some new engines at least.

Portlock Point Light, Prevost Island, is part of Gulf Islands National Park Reserve of Canada.

Happy 4th of July everyone. My island had an amazing natural firework tonight on Independence Day. I had a choice of either shooting firework at Pearl Harbor or shooting a natural scene like this. I chose the latter and I am glad I did as I always wanted to have a chance of capturing that red afterglow reflecting off these wet rocks surfaces and I couldn't be happier with how it turns out.

Update: I decided to replace the current version with a newer comp from the same spot. I like this one better as it has more colors and a stronger water action than my previous version. Didn't want to post two versions so I just updated to this newer one which I like better.
