What better way to spend Labor Day Weekend than heading to the lake in some supercars? I hope all my Flickr friends in the States have a happy and safe Labor Day!

Welly continue to impress with their modern 1/60 offerings and are becoming increasingly sought after by many collectors who consider them to be superior to Matchbox and Hot Wheels equivalents. Only a very patchy international distribution stops them from being widely available which is in complete contrast to less than a decade ago, certainly here in the UK they are nigh on impossible to find now.

This beautifully proportioned Porsche Macan Turbo was found on the pegs of a French Carrefour Market where they are sold under the nationally available Wonder Kids brand.

Mint and boxed.

It looked as though somebody beat me to a new selection of Welly in my favourite Chinese bazaar in Sitges recently! Grrrrrr! Its been a while since they have had any stock of their 1/60 products but did find two models hidden away in all the clutter. This gorgeous Porsche Macan Turbo was one of them and perfectly illustrates the frustrating appeal of Welly products. They are usually remarkably cheap yet remarkably well cast models of both classic and modern vehicles from around the World, the frustration lies in their poor distribution which is virtually non existent here in the UK! Mint and boxed.

The equivalent of 1.00 barely gets you a cheapo HTI Teamsterz generic these days in the UK but just across the Chanel in Europe that price point will still just about get you a modern licensed Matchbox from Action. There wasn't much stock left in my nearest branch whilst out in Spain but there were some remnants waiting to be snapped up such as a couple of the latest recoloured Porsche Macan.

A perfect companion to its Cayenne cousin which Matchbox also produce, totally stock in appearance and featuring full front and rear detailing.

Mint and boxed.

It seems Welly has the same ethos as Majorette for offering budget pocket money 1/64 models which are as realistic and detailed as possible with very little sign of cost cutting or decontenting. Like Majorette they don't like to dwell too much in the past in regards to their new models which with a few exceptions are always of new vehicles such as this Porsche Macan Turbo though of course both companies do occasionally produce some stunning classics too. Its great to see the smaller Macan in miniature form as its all too often its bigger brother the Cayenne which appears in toy makers ranges and predictably they have really nailed this casting with its muscular but rounded body. Naturally it gets a full quota of badging and painted lights plus of course a highly sculptured interior and even a full length glass roof. Part of a two vehicle Speed Track branded set bought recently from a large Spanish Carrefour hypermarket. Mint and boxed.

Its an unescapable fact that Porsche now sell far more SUV's than they do sports cars but that is the way of the modern motoring scene and one which has MASSIVELY increased their production levels and profitability. First came the massive Cayenne and more recently the smaller Macan which has struck a chord with many premium buyers.

There isn't too many to choose from in 1/64 at the moment apart from the odd unlicensed obscure Chinese efforts and this beautiful little number from Welly. Very well cast as you'd expect and a colour and finish to be proud of. One of very many Welly products found in France recently. Mint and boxed.
