For 10 days only, Mark Free from Brother Baba Budan is curating the Black Coffee Popup Shop at the Somewhere Gallery on Little Collins.

Serving black coffee only with beans from an extensive collection of Melbourne's roasters the idea is to experiment with brewing methods and putting espresso, milk & sugar on hold for a bit and re-discover the flavours of pure black coffee.

I was there today helping out and will be there tomorrow, Wednesdasy August 10th, come on down and say hi! It's awesome and it won't last.

We spent 5 great days in Torres del Paine National Park walking the "W".

Day one saw blizzards, hail and force 12 gales (it felt like force 12 anyhow.... and we both almost got blown over despite large rucksacks) en route to Glaciar Grey, which made it worth the 4 hour hike from the ferry drop off.

Day 2 was better - no wind, and we saw our first condors as we backtracked along the shore of Lago Grey to Lago Pehoe and skirted the north shore of Lake Skotendbild (?) under the vast bulk of Los Cuernos. Stayed 2 great nights in Refugio Los Cuernos, which meant that on Day 3 we could walk up the stunning Val de Frances under clear blue skies, getting amazing 360 degree views out over the lakes, of Los Cuernos (from the other side) and the avalanches coming from glaciar Frances. Amazing.

Day 4 we hiked onwards in light drizzle to refugio Chileno, which lies un the valley leading up to Los Torres, and as we whiled away the afternoon under grey skies, the clouds lifted enough for us to see them... and today (day 5) we woke to clear blue skies again and marched off double quick along the 2 hour return path to Los Torres... making it in under 3, including the vertiginous bouldering section to reach the lake at the base fo the Torres. Lovely.

We're now clean and fresh and will be meeting up with Nodoka and Choko and Simon for pisco sours at El Living in the not too distant future! And do you know what.... Puerto Natales isn't too bad in the sunshine.....

Purina ONE sponsored a four day pop up cat cafe in the Bowery that resulted in 25 cat adoptions

Quite possibly the ballsiest interpretation of the "popup restaurant" phenomenon to date: 12 guests were treated to a full 6 courses on an NYC subway commute from 8th Avenue to Canarsie, with a new dish being served every third stop. Courses were plated by teams either on the platform, or in the train itself, and served to guests on custom-built straphanger tables. The exquisitely planned and executed event went off (amazingly) without a hitch. The Great Gatsby was read, diners were stuffed, onlookers drooled.

The menu:

6th Avenue: Hamchi Crudo, Bone Marrow, Trout Roe, Laproaig, Sweet Lime

3rd Avenue: Foie en Brioche, Port Wine, Raisin,

Lorimer Street: Ramp Soup, Black Garlic, Cippolini, Morel, Thyme

Morgan Avenue: Petit Filet Mignon, Pomme Puree, Asparagus

Bushwick Avenue: Pepper Jam, St Andre

Sutter Avenue: Chocolate & Gold Leaf Panna Cotta, Raspberry Coulis

The lunch was Hosted by Michael Cirino, Daniel Castano and Andrew Rosenberg of A Razor, A Shiny Knife

Along with:

Jonny Cigar – Winetology

Mike Lee – Studiofeast

Linda Lou – The Cheeky Chef
