For 10 days only, Mark Free from Brother Baba Budan is curating the Black Coffee Popup Shop at the Somewhere Gallery on Little Collins.
Serving black coffee only with beans from an extensive collection of Melbourne's roasters the idea is to experiment with brewing methods and putting espresso, milk & sugar on hold for a bit and re-discover the flavours of pure black coffee.
I was there today helping out and will be there tomorrow, Wednesdasy August 10th, come on down and say hi! It's awesome and it won't last.

Nackt-Banner live vom FKK-Strand (Telering)
Das kreative Popup (eigentlich als Banner programmiert) erregte hohe Aufmerksamkeit, da es andeutete, Bilder einer Live-Cam vor einem FKK-Strand zu zeigen. Das Telering Plakat war innerhalb des Popups sehr vordergründig platziert und neben einigen "nackten" Menschen zentral im Bild. Hinweis: Popups sind aufgrund ihres schlechten Rufs kaum mehr in der Online-Werbung zu finden.

Arte contemporanea nello spazio urbano
La fruizione dell’arte si semplifica, esce in strada e segue il naturale fluire del tempo. Il poster ha già in sé tutto questo. Il manifesto che storicamente è messaggio, arte, grafica e design, entra a pieno titolo nella scena dell’arte contemporanea, attraverso l’abilità, il genio creativo e l’azzardo di artisti, capaci di riconsegnare al pubblico, immagini vere, poetiche, fantastiche, dure e graffianti, di una quotidianità autentica, reale ma comunque spesso distrattamente ignorata. L’intento di POP UP! è di offrire una narrazione in grado di mostrare le molteplici facce del poster: dall’immaginario grafico osceno e senza compromessi delle serigrafie di Le Dernier Cri, a quello rock e psichedelico tipicamente 70’s dei Malleus, al manifesto inteso come supporto e presenza urbana, militante o dissonante, di artisti del calibro di Teresa Sdralevich e WK Interact - che parlano oltre le parole, gridano attraverso i muri - fino alle proposte più eterogenee degli italiani Paper Resistance, Andreco e William Vecchietti. Tantissimi altri poster, spediti da ogni parte del mondo per la Convention, mostrano la faccia più spontanea, libera e street del movimento Poster Art. Uno strumento, il manifesto, che inspira l’indagine delle dinamiche sociali, viste anche con gli occhi degli adolescenti, chiamati attraverso un Contest a realizzare le proprie opere sui modelli di manifesti politici, da circo o slogan. POP UP! è un progetto MAC, ideato e realizzato da Monica Caputo, Allegra Corbo, Lucia Garbini, con il contributo di Regione Marche, Provincia di Ancona, Cohabitat, Comune di Ancona, Fondo Mole Vanvitelliana, Fondazione Nouveaux Mecenes, e in collaborazione con Soprintendenza per i Beni Architettonici e per il Paesaggio delle Marche, Istituto CSD Poliarte Ancona, Nuova Associazione ARCI Ancona, Cooperativa Pescatori Ancona, Autorità Portuale di Ancona.

This was a weird entry. The artist made a popup/cutaway book based on the architecture shown in the movie, Russian Ark, which was presented as a continuous sequence (no cutaways). The artist recreated the architecture from the various scenes on each page, but then had elements from each page popup into other pages, so you never saw just one scene at any time.
The curious thing was that the piece was shown via poster.
Other than what attracts the rest of the world to this wonderful, whimsical paradise, I can't really say what it is I feel an affinity towards, exactly. The dreamy sights & smells would win anyone's heart, but I do esp. love the campy, cheesiness of the older rides and attractions. Unfortunately I've only ever been there ONCE, in '93. My Dad worked there in the 60's though and is full of neat stories about it. :)
