The Green Wall
Since the beginning of the year, an elaborate and carefully constructed The Green Wall has been on display on 3/F. Composed of tree cotton, ramie plants, and 2 large pieces of hand embroidered art, the piece is aimed at highlighting the importance of plants.
Plants provide us with oxygen, materials, clothing, and an overall heightened sense of well-being. At The Mills, we have teamed up with curator Lab Pheno and botanist Forest Round Round to use cotton and linen in creating the embroidered art.
By displaying the raw materials and elaborate artwork created using cotton and linen, we hope that The Green Wall gives visitors a better understanding and appreciation of all that plants provide us, now and throughout history.
At The Mills, we want to carry on our legacy as a former textile mill with a future of applied creativity and innovation, and continue to touch upon topics through an interesting and aesthetic way.
Popped into the Jackson Junge Gallery in Chicago recently, only to encounter a change of venue wedding. The young couple had been scheduled to have an outdoor wedding, but the weather had something to say about that. I did not notice the photo bombing until after I left. I think it actually adds to the photo. Take care everybody, B

Adelaide's Rundle Mall is full of popup eating places these days. A small stall and some light tables and chairs and hey presto you have a popup cafe. I was sitting at a popup fruit bar further away from these chairs on a Friday evening back in June.

On the Penguin trail at Wigram Airforce Museum.January 2021 Christchurch New Zealand.
Over Term Two and Three in 2020, we had 65 schools from across the city and surrounding towns take part in the Pop Up Penguins Learning Programme. This wasn’t an easy time for students and teachers as Term Two began in the midst of New Zealand’s lockdown period! And yet, with resilience and determination, the schools signed up to take part in this citywide art project.
The Pop Up Penguins Learning Programme has been supported by an amazing line up
of organisations: the International Antarctic Centre, Antarctica New Zealand, the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs, Gateway Antarctica and the College of Education, Health and Human Development at the University of Canterbury.
The Learning Partners shared their vast knowledge and expertise within the Learning Programme resource pack and educators from International Antarctic Centre, Gateway Antarctica and the College of Education, Human Development and Health delivered a bespoke Pop Up Penguins themed presentation to over 50 of the schools registered on the Learning Programme.
Students across our city have learned about penguin conservation, Christchurch’s global significance as one of five Gateways to Antarctica and kaitiakitanga, guardianship and protection of the environment. As you find the little penguins in displays around the city, learn about the themes that inspired them.
