Pop-up anticlines are superficial structures formed at the Earth's surface by fluvial action or other unloading processes - they are not tectonic in origin. These structures are generally subtle uparched folds in bedrock-floored streams. If they occur naturally in stream beds, the structures are called "stream anticlines". Pop-ups can also occur in non-natural contexts - for example, ditches. The pop-up anticline seen here is on the floor of an emergency spillway excavated next to Caesar Creek Lake in southwestern Ohio. The lake is an artificial reservoir that formed behind Caesar Creek Dam, which was built in the 1970s.
