Here's Raskal reading the easy instructions for the Lightscoop. Notice the ugly black hole at the bottom of the frame and terrible direct-flash lighting from using the pop-up flash on my Nikon D200.

afternoon acoustic session at glasgow barfly

Tasting Britain was invited down to the gloriously magnificently sunny, summery and sunshine infused London Riviera on a stretch of the river called 'More Riverside' to discover the joys of Levantine cuisine, as interpreted by the fine people at Ceru. What is Ceru, you may ask? Ceru is a restaurant that has never actually had a physical premises - I believe they had their first popup on Rathbone Place, which is just off of Tottenham Court Road. In early June 2015 they set up shop at London Riviera - this is a street food offering, I think quite similar to what they were doing at their physical premises? Of everything we tried, the lamb shoulder was the best, IMHO. But lamb shoulder always is :3

Anyhow, this was their one year anniversary and gave us a chance to try a bunch of their food in rapid-fire succession whilst trying to work out what the hell I’m doing with my life. I got to meet the director, Barry, who’s a real chill guy and told me a little about Ceru’s journey up to now, and the reality of being an independent restaurant in what is a very, very difficult market. Ceru are moving on to new premises in October 2015, nobody’s quite sure where they’ll end up yet, but we’re pretty sure that you’ll be able to see them at various festivals in the guise of ‘Ceru On Tour’. As for who/what’ll be inheriting London Riviera next, I cannot say! London Riviera is a pretty great idea in its own right, located right by HMS Belfast and City Hall and decorated with the kind of stuff you’d find in the French Riveira (I think?). Sunbeds on the street in central London - why the hell not?

A little on Levantine cuisine. This is the region that encompasses Cyprus, Turkey, Lebanon and Israel, and has quite a history. Much of these areas fall within what’s known as ‘the fertile crescent’ - which is where humanity first started to domesticate the grasses and various plant species that you may now recognise as our staple crops (inb4 paleo diet). It’s where agriculture began. I dunno if this means that the food has any particular provenance or history but I’d like to think so.
