Artist Statement:
My work originates from a love and experience of nature. As I began painting with a desire to mimic certain physical characteristics of natural environments, I realized that, during the process of painting, I was actually feeling an experience of nature. Rather than painting something to appear like nature, I now seek to embody the living act of nature, with no separations between my self, my work and nature.
Because of this experience of nature within the process of painting, I associate my work with landscape painting , even though my recent works are abstract in appearance. I see how my actions through painting are an outlet for me to let go and play in my own created landscape. My art is more about the process of painting rather than a painting reaching a stage that is final, much as a landscape in nature is always alive, always undergoing a process of change – a building up of circumstances, events, influences and memories. In many ways, such landscapes reflect my struggles in life…to slow down, to put things together in a way that is direct and to live in the present moment. I strive to pu t it all down on the panel, allowing the painting to always be in the act of creation, as there is always a constant adding and taking away from the panel.
Each work becomes a model of a lifestyle for me, teaching me to pay attention to what is before me in the present and how to react based on instinct and feeling.
As nature is always in the present moment, always in the act of, we are also acting upon our own moments and thus also always in creation.

This is how I lit the quickie shot shown in the adjacent frame. It was a very quick shot and by no means a studio set-up. The final image is rather soft, but that may be due to me hand-holding with ONE HAND as I used the same hand to press the shutter release. It may be due to the default High ISO noise reduction, which I didn't touch.
The first shot was lit by one 60 watt bulb, about 7-8 feet to the right of the flowers and it was just not good enough to think about using, so I popped up the built-in flash. Naturally, there was a shadow on the wall, which is about 4 feet behind the flowers. I picked up a post card and held it as shown so that the white side of the card would deflect the light up towards the ceiling. Using ISO 500 means that the light effectively filled the room. (The setting is sensitive enough to detect light everywhere.) This bathed the flowers in light and the shot was acceptable for posting on Facebook.
I can see how this might bail me out of some unforeseen situations in the future.
Looks like t-storms were forming just to our east! Some instability from a lingering low pressure area had caused a popup shower just over the eastern foothills of Mt. Hamilton. Too bad this cell didn't mature into a full on t-storm. Pics taken from around San Jose, CA. (Thursday afternoon, June 4, 2015)
Weather update:
A low pressure area has closed off and was now over Central California this day and was dropping southward. The low was to continue southward ending up over SoCal by the next day. Then by Sunday, the low was to begin to move eastward and another weak low was forecast to form off the SoCal coast and remain there thru early next week. These lows were to pull subtropical moisture northward from the remains of Andres and even Blanca. The moisture coupled with the instability provided by the low was to continue to trigger showers and t-storms mainly over the foothills and mountains. Showers and t-storms were possible in the valley this day and again early next week. Temps were to be on a warming trend and by Sunday and early next week, the valley could see the first 100-degree day! Summer was slowly approaching...
