Both polyester and polypropylene are archival-quality (acid-free) but polypropylene does not seem to withstand normal wear-and-tear that library books receive. We’ve found it tends to show wrinkles and bad scratches, and it catches on things and tears open very easily when students place the books into their backpacks.
The book in the photo, with a polypropylene cover, has only been circulated ten times. Note the scratches and holes in the cover. A copy of the very same book with a polyester cover, has been circulated twenty times and shows only a couple of tiny scratches. This isn’t the only book with this issue. All of our polyepropylene-covered books look like this. And we’ve tried various brands and weights – same result.
Anyone else had this issue or is it just our library?

Cut a piece of polyester batting (or scrap of towel, or whatever you are using) to fully cover the bottom of the container. You will place this on top of the fermentation lock's lid in side the bottom of the container. It keeps charcoal from getting inside your fermentation lock.

Born and based in Barcelona, Plensa has installed numerous iconic sculptures across the globe, including Crown Fountain (2004) in Chicago's Millennium Park and Nomade (2007) in Antibes. UK projects include Breathing (2008), a memorial to international news journalists placed on the roof of BBC Broadcasting House, which projects a fine beam of light every day during the 10 O’clock news bulletin, and Dream (2009), a 20-metre high sculpture created for St Helens as part of Channel 4’s Big Art Project.
Plensa has an international reputation for major exhibitions and public art projects around the world, making sculpture, drawings, prints, acoustic installations and designs for opera and theatre. Pushing technical and artistic boundaries, his often transparent, large-scale sculptures incorporate light, sound and text, inviting the spectator’s active participation in a space where art and language, nature and culture, sound and communication collide and entwine.

De Animaris Rhonoceros Transport weegt 2,8 ton en is een zijtak in de strandbeesten evolutie maar kan desondanks door één enkele persoon worden voortbewogen door slim gebruik te maken van de wind. Je kunt er in zitten. Zoals een auto een vervoertuigd paard is en een vliegtuig gezien kan worden als een vervoertuigde vogel, zo kan de Animaris Rhinoceros Transport opgevat worden als een vervoertuigde Animaris (de Latijnse naam voor strandbeest).

This skirt is criminally cute, but the real crime is that it’s made from an unbreathable polyester. I can only, comfortably, wear it in spring and fall. I’ll wear it until the humidity kicks in and then move on to my cotton skirts for the summer.

Project I will make with this panel : a panel for a door, or a panel to hang on a wall. I will use these fabric elements together with some plain fabric. I plan to put trees stripes on top and bottom of the princess panel

A real find of a picture! Taken from the Oldham Evening Chronicle's 'Good Old Days' magazine. The article on transport erroneously places the picture in the late 1970s when this style of uniform was introduced in 1979.
The uniforms were designed by John Michael of Bond Street in glorious terylene, worsted, polyester and cotton.
Taken outside Piccadilly Bus Station, though sadly not by myself, hence the disclaimer at the bottom.

Taken in the 'China: Through the Looking Glass' exhibition (May-September 2015).
This exhibition explores the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries. In this collaboration between The Costume Institute and the Department of Asian Art, high fashion is juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, including films, to reveal enchanting reflections of Chinese imagery.
From the earliest period of European contact with China in the sixteenth century, the West has been enchanted with enigmatic objects and imagery from the East, providing inspiration for fashion designers from Paul Poiret to Yves Saint Laurent, whose fashions are infused at every turn with romance, nostalgia, and make-believe. Through the looking glass of fashion, designers conjoin disparate stylistic references into a pastiche of Chinese aesthetic and cultural traditions.
The exhibition features more than 140 examples of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear alongside Chinese art. Filmic representations of China are incorporated throughout to reveal how our visions of China are framed by narratives that draw upon popular culture, and also to recognize the importance of cinema as a medium through which to understand the richness of Chinese history.
