Pollux is an old merchant marine training ship now in use as a restaurant / bar in the NDSM harbour in Amsterdam.
A couple of weeks ago, while Brandon and I were whiling away a quiet Sunday afternoon together, Brandon's niece Avery stopped by for a visit (along with her parents). We had a lovely time chatting, catching up and watching Avery play with the cats. Brandon snapped some fabulous shots of Avery throughout the course of the afternoon. At a moment when his arms were full of Pollux (see above), I grabbed his Nikon D80 to see what it could do! I like the look on Pollux the cat's face here, but I can't quite decipher it. Patience? Consternation? A general feeling that cats have all the answers? Your guess is as good as mine. (PS ~ Thanks to Brandon for assistance with decisions regarding cropping and color here.)

I didn't get their Latin name right, but I got their portraits into my students notebooks on the correct day. Here they are, the Dioscuri or Sons of Zeus, with my semiprivate attributes of Memory and Willpower.

Castor and Pollux perch atop
teetering on the edge of the photo horizon
I just guessed where they might be riding
held on tight and made the exposure
I might have had some help from Hermes
I thought I felt a lift in my arms
all photos handheld and unaltered
