Je suis à Rome. Je vais visiter le forum. C'est obligé.

If a ship is called Pollux, there is usually a brother ship called Castor.

The Pollux building in Frankfurt: a high-rise (130 meters) from the nineties with a timeless design. After having been left empty, it was time for a marketing and sustainability incentive. With OVG as asset manager this was the thinking behind making the existing Pollux building sustainable, attracting new tenants and thereby breathing new life into the building. Our efforts were rewarded when Pollux was the first building outside of the UK to receive the BREEAM-In-Use Excellent sustainability certificate. Meaning that the building is sustainable in both management and use. Something we are proud of.

Regillus (495 BC). Castor and Pollux (Greek Polydeuces) were the Dioscuri, the "twins" of Gemini, the twin sons of Zeus (Jupiter) and Leda. Their cult came to Rome from Greece via Magna Graecia and the Greek culture of Southern Italy

The last king of Rome, Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, and his allies, the Latins, waged war on the infant Roman Republic. Before the battle, the Roman dictator Aulus Postumius Albus Regillensis vowed to build a temple to the Dioscuri if Rome were victorious.

According to legend Castor and Pollux appeared on the battlefield as two able horsemen in aid of the Romans. And, after the battle had been won they again appeared on the Forum in Rome watering their horses at the Spring of Juturna thereby announcing the victory. The temple stands on the supposed spot of their appearance.

One of Postumius’ sons was elected duumvir in order to dedicate the temple on 15 July (the ides of July) 484 BC

The archaic temple was completely reconstructed and enlarged in 117 BC by Lucius Caecilius Metellus Dalmaticus after his victory over the Dalmatians. Gaius Verres again restored this second temple in 73 BC.

In 14 BC a fire that ravaged major parts of the forum destroyed the temple, and Tiberius, the son of Augustus by a previous marriage of Livia and the eventual heir to the throne, rebuilt it. Tiberius' temple was dedicated in 6 AD. The remains visible today are from the temple of Tiberius, except the podium, which is from the time of Metellus.

Our sister planet Venus (it actually resembles more hell than our own planet) as well as the stars Castor (top) and Pollux (center) over the small town of Harderwijk in the Netherlands.

Castor is little less than 50 light years away and is in fact an assembly of six gravitationally binded stars.

Pollux, two times as massive and nine times as large by radius as our own Sun, is about 34 light years away.

At least one planet is known to orbit Pollux. The planet is approximately 2.3 times heavier than Jupiter and orbits its sun in ca. 590 days.

Today, Kashmir and Pollux are turning 2 years old. Amazing huh?

Can you even believe that those two little innocent kittens grew into this and this?

I really wish I had a better camera back then. :( Oh well!

Happy Valentines Day / Singles Awareness Day to everyone!

Murray: Good.

Mel: Yes.

Murray: Alright. You're sure?

Mel: Yes! [chuckles] Is she stupid?

Part of an ongoing series.

I'm fascinated by the obsession with nice "Bokeh" held by many photographers.

It seems they want to bathe the subject in a soft and smooth background, but rarely do they consider softened renderings of a lens' out of focus regions to be useful for portraying the subject itself. Without the superficialities of a surfaces it becomes easier to see the intricacies of the light falling upon your subject, and emphasizing the silhouette. This is suited to the vibrance of plants particularly, but I have an upcoming set of portraits coming up too.
