Aye, polaris - ye have gripped my heart with steadfast awe. Funny how the stars mean that much more after three months of not seeing them.

This is a new version of www.flickr.com/photos/frame_maker/14299378563/ Using Photoshop, I added reflections of the boat, pilings, and sky. I just learned how to do this. I'd appreciate any comments on which version you prefer and suggestions for improviing the reflections.

Where I find beauty, others often see something that does not belong in our otherwise clean and orderly world, and must be erased. This abandoned tug boat, the Polaris, is officially considered a "public nuisance." It ran aground near Lone Tree Point in Rodeo, California on the night of April 14, 2013. Because the location was in the East Bay Regional Park District, the District issued a notice to remove the boat, but the owner did not comply. After weeks of negotiation the vessel was moved off the rocks to a nearby marina, D&R Marine. The vessel is now considered a "public nuisance" and the California State Lands Commission has been authorized to remove it. Hybrid reverse trike.

Since there isn't a remote compatible with my old Nikon D50 (which took another tumble this trip...requiring another super glue fix), I use a rubber band and some chewed gum to depress the shutter release for these long exposures. I still had to process quite a bit of noise out of this image, but I think it turned out pretty nice for a 20-minute exposure.

RCAF CC-150 15003 in retro Canadian Armed Forces livery takes off from RAF Fairford. It had been on static display at the 2022 Royal International Air Tattoo.

Location: RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire, UK.

On San Pablo Bay at the old Joseph's Resort site in Rodeo, California. I have photos of the Polaris as a working tug, but I'm told there was some sort of dispute over ownership -- and that seems to have ended with the boat being abandoned.

Last weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to wander around Dragon Con and photograph/interview costumed women for Refinery29.

Each year, downtown Atlanta is swarmed by more than 50,000 monsters, princesses, fairies, super heroes, and knights. Dragon Con is an annual convention dedicated to the most serious of the nerdy fan arts — cosplay, or dressing up.

I talked to some of the most decked-out fans. They told me about their costumes, how they connect to their characters, and why they love the Dragon Con community.

the northern star "polaris"....every star and planet we see in the northern hemisphere orbits this point....taken with my eos 600d,using the kit lense, 5 minutes exposure at iso 200

Headed out on a very cold night to try and capture Polaris rotation. Spent more time cleaning condensation from the lens. Used an Intervalometer to allow greater control. This shot was taken at the edge of a heli - pad next to a local hotel.

99 minutes worth of exposure time with a tripod mounted D7100 looking North towards Polaris. Taken from Wednesbury, West Midlands, UK.

So I know it's been a while since I've posted anything. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. It's actually been killing me to not have shot anything for months!

I've been busy trying to put a business together and it's taken all of my time, energy, and money to do so. There were other factors, as well, but we'll just leave it at that :)

This is downtown Jacksonville, again. I shot a similar image back around August or September, but I've now had a chance to experiment with star trail shooting and I've figured out a decent way to get the star trails in with a brightly lit subject. I have another image I shot the same night, and I'll be putting that one together shortly.

While I was photographing the early morning planets last week, I spotted some boulders on the north end of the parking lot in Hickory Run State Park (Pennsylvania). I thought I would try out my handy laser pointer to try and point out the North Star, Polaris. The image below is what I ended up with.

For those that know me, dexterity is not my strong point. Standing on this rock for 15-seconds, in the dark, was an Olympic achievement.

This is a single 15-second exposure and about 5-seconds of laser light using a Canon 6D and Canon EF17-40mm f/4L USM lens, tripod mounted.

About five hours exposure at f/8. The slide film, Kodak E100VS, was cross processed using C-41.

Not often photographed, The North Star or Polaris surrounded by Integrated Flux Nebula. I took this remotely from Spain with 105 f1.4 Sigma lens and ASI2600MC. 53x 300s exposures a total of nearly 4 and a half hours. Processed with Pixinsight and Photoshop.
