I was impressed to see one of a number of new VDL SB200CS-based Wright Pulsar 2s for Arriva North West's Chester depot this afternoon on type training duties. Here, 3143 (CX12 DSZ) is seen at Chester Bus Exchange where it prepares to start type acclimatisation. This process involves showing each driver the main controls and basic type information such as fuel filler location and emergency engine stop, followed by a short drive to acclimatise the driver to the type in question. The new Pulsars are branded for the Blacon Pointer local services within Chester. Thanks to Wrexham driver training instructor Ray Simmons for allowing me on board and providing a demonstration of the vehicle.

It was very foggy so I thought I'd have fun with a laser pointer.

These things can travel far :-)

Brother of Uther Stormdragon and international financial investor of the Imperial Council. Less famous than his older brother Uther, Athelstane played a critical role in managing the assets of the Imperial Council in the first quarter of the twentieth century.Considered a spendthrift who lavished monies on wild parties , Athelstane had a talent for finding the right investments for the Council. His parties were truly the cat's meow. Thrown at his estate somewhere in Britain, catnip and fresh cream were placed throughout the great hall in large silver containers. He released hundreds of brightly colored tropical birds for his feline guests .The birds flew around the hall while Athelstane entertained feline notables.Though popular with some Council members, his extravagance and practical jokes ultimately led to the Council sending him to the U.S. after the Great War to handle their business interests there. Stormdragon was a key asset in part for he was one of the rare talking cats.He was able to communicate to the Council's human agents where he wanted them to invest.Although frequently warned not to speak to humans except those working for the Council, Athelstane was known to violate this rule. He would sometimes approach perfect strangers and say things like " I am God and I am speaking through this cat.You must repent and adopt one hundred cats or you will burn in hell." He would yell obscenities in the street and people would fight each other without realizing they were responding to the challenges of a cat.He was involved in the 1912 rabbit massacre where rumor had it that he drank late into the night with the ferret delegates celebrating after they had attacked the rabbit delegates sent to the Council meeting. In retrospect some feline historians believe that the Council had Athelstane side with the ferrets and his brother with the rabbits as a way to maintain some contact with both species after the incident.Recent scholarly efforts suggest that the anarchist cat attack of 1918 on the Council may have been as much an effort to kidnap Athelstane for his knowledge of Imperial Council finances as it was to overthrow the Council. Athelstane warned Uther before his personal combat with the anarchist bob cat disguised as a cat that something was amiss. Athelstane said "That creature might be our genus but it d--- sure isn't our species." When his brother prevailed in the duel on the top of the St. Nicholas cathedral in Hamburg, Athelstane rushed down to the streets below to rally the Imperial cats to victory. Athelstane started the Council's efforts to invest in technology that might benefit cats.He believed that cats might be able to drive automobiles one day though that proved to be a false hope. Although he died long before computers were invented, Council investments in technology helped make the computer technology possible. You don't think they named the pointer a "mouse" for no reason did you?

Some who read this will know that I have packed in my sales job after 28 years in the fishing tackle business.

I am gradually putting together a dog walking business and this is one of my charges.

Brambles is an elderly pointer and she does love her walkies. We walk about three miles together, five times a week.

The final bus of my day was this ADL Pointer, which suffered from very bad rattling when idling, and poor suspension. Seen parked up at Devizes before completing a return trip to Bath Bus Station.

A little bit abstract here, rivets and rust and the setting sun.

The unique NK53TJV - not, as it appears, an MPD, but a Bluebird LMD with Plaxton Pointer body. Bluebird, the American schoolbus manufacturer, had a link with Plaxton's. Originally with Northumbria Coaches, it passed to Go Ahead, where it wasn't popular...

I admire Abellio's drive to push a better brand, and the new livery, but I really wish they had more attention to detail. All-grey advert frames, poor fleet number application (i.e. 8003 (LJ56 ONL) here on the 81 has two front fleet numbers) and not bothering to paint the doors (which is a feature of both 8003 and 8766).

Pegasus Dart 8766 (LK56 JKE), on the 459 here, is one of the most recent repaints. I note it's not been refurbished inside like 8762, but worse is the white front which just looks plain wrong in my opinion.

Window display at the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store.

These shots were taken at Bay Area Park and there was not canoe required. This Green Heron was very focused on fishing and did mind my slow approach and my presence as he went about his business near the pier in the park. I know it’s another Green Heron shot, so I guess I’m going to get me a bumper sticker that says that I stop everything for Green Herons…except for photography.
