Colfax County, New Mexico, County Road C-52, looking north toward a spot on the Santa Fe Trail called Point of Rocks.
For the first time since August of 2021, I found myself face-to-face with the black and red of a Canadian National unit, this time in Point of Rocks, Maryland. A clean 3226 led M371 past the old depot under golden light.

This is the last photo in the slideshow. After this we spent the night in D.C. and flew home in the morning.

On a day that weather and operations allowed for only one decent photo to be taken, at least caught a lucky break in the clouds. That KCSM AC44 trailing the obligatory "Grey Poupon" leader sure is a long way from home up here in Wyoming!

There's not a whole lot to Point of Rocks, Wyoming other than a truck stop on I-80 and a center siding on the Overland Route. But did find it is one of the few places east of Rock Springs with both easy access to the tracks and a nice scenic backdrop. Rolling at a good clip with a nice clean leader, an eastbound continues towards Cheyenne and North Platte.

During the afternoon commuter rush, MARC P877 offloads passengers at the historic Point Of Rocks station in Maryland while CSXT's Q416 waits at the stop signal on #2 track for traffic to clear up and space to park in nearby Brunswick yard. A rare treat for 2017 was the appearance of GP39PH #73 in the lead. MARC trains as of late have become more homogenous in their appearance with the MP36s dominating operations here as well as on Amtrak's NEC.

Not 100% sure what was going on here, but I think a westbound stopped at Point of Rocks to spin their lead engine so it was facing west. CSX 838 creeps around the wye as a couple young fans look on.
