There's not a whole lot to Point of Rocks, Wyoming other than a truck stop on I-80 and a center siding on the Overland Route. But did find it is one of the few places east of Rock Springs with both easy access to the tracks and a nice scenic backdrop. Rolling at a good clip with a nice clean leader, an eastbound continues towards Cheyenne and North Platte.

This photo kind of epitomizes the value of smartphone photography to me. In situations where I'm trying to be a *serious* photographer armed with my main Sony gear, I might not have bothered stopping by this spot because it wasn't planned and it wasn't the coveted golden hour - a bad mentality, I know. But because I only intended to use my phone, I decided not to worry about potentially not getting a great photo and made the detour anyway... and the result was a great photo.
This shot of some Virginia foliage was taken from across the Potomac River standing in Maryland at Point of Rocks.
The former B&O depot at Point Of Rocks MD has seen a lot of changes throughout the years. The building remains standing between two mainline subdivisions of CSXT but the depot itself is no longer used as a passenger station although MARC commuter trains do stop here. The depot is used by CSXT MOW and is on the National Register of Historic Buildings.
