It's hard to find anything that compares to the tortured sandstone found at the White Pocket in Arizona's Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. I've visited this area a number of times and am always awestruck by its beauty.
It was our second day in White Pocket, that place that seems not to belong to this planet. Just before sunset, with the light starting to become soft and enveloping, I decided to approach one of the most iconic elements of the place.
⠀
I had seen it in many photos before, but I wanted to portray it in a different way. So I mounted @brightin.star's 8mm ultra wide-angle lens and laid directly over the rock formations to exaggerate the textures, the lines and that almost dreamlike perspective that the terrain draws.⠀
White Pocket is one of those places where you don't want to waste a second adjusting the tripod. Here you shoot instinctively, almost breathing the landscape, trying to absorb it all.
⠀
What makes White Pocket special is not only its otherworldly appearance, but its unique geological history. These white sandstone formations, with reddish veins and wavy lines, originated about 190 million years ago, during the Jurassic. The site is composed mostly of Navajo Sandstone, a rock formed from ancient fossilized dunes. The characteristic folding and twisting of its surface is due to unusual deformation caused by hydration of underlying layers of clay, which caused the upper sands to shift and deform in an almost sculptural manner.
This was from a short visit to white pocket in May. Any comment will be welcome. Thanks for watching:)

I pulled up this image of White Pocket since I plan to be in the vicinity in the near future, and I'm really looking forward to it after a long winter.
This was taken on a trip in 2014 when I had a camera but really had no idea how to use it. My friend hired a guide to bring take us to White Pocket, and I was along for the ride, having done very little research and not knowing exactly what we were getting into. Our guide, a former wildlife photographer and friendly fellow, asked which of us was the photographer (neither of us fessed up) and casually mentioned to set it at f/8 and have fun. After asking him what he meant, he gave me a few pointers about how to use my camera. When I got home, I did quite a bit more tinkering and learning about cameras and haven't looked back.
The White Pocket area is an isolated, hard-to-reach patch of sandstone hidden within the desert expanse of Vermillion Cliffs National Monument in northern Arizona near the Utah border. One needs 4WD, high clearance vehicle to make the trip.

I am Japanese Camera Assistant. I graduated from Nihon University College of Art in Japan with a B.A. degree in Cinematography. After that, I worked at OMNIBUS JAPAN, a film production company, for one year.
At present, I am learning English in Los Angeles. Also I often volunteer to help out for AFI & USC graduation filming. In addition, I am looking for job or internships in California. In order to do this I would need sponsorship to work in the USA.
Photography is my lifework.

Most of the power moves that leave Topeka are in that 8-10 unit neighborhood, but not this one! On April 3, 2021, I shot this one leaving for Emporia with just five units; the BNSF 6765, 5295, 1584, 1941, and 1836.
I've had this watch for some time, it is an English (London) silver pair cased pocket watch with a fusee movement. It runs and keeps very good time.

April Challenge Day 8 - Kodak Pocket A1
This year I'm using a different film format each month, starting with the smallest and working my way up through the sizes. The format for April is 110, the “Pocket Instamatic” cartridge introduced by Kodak in 1972 and still available today. I've got a lot of 110 cameras, so I've set myself the challenge of using a different one each day of the month. The plan is to shoot 2 or 3 photos with a camera, and then transfer the film to the next one for the next day, using 30 different cameras altogether.
Notice the transition from brain rock to laminated structure from right to left - White Pocket geology is amazing at any scale you view it.

A cloudy, wintery day in the Coyote Buttes. The cold and windy conditions did not keep me at a stand still, however I did manage to capitalize on a few rays of light. Pictured above is one of the many rock formations at the White Pocket.

A First World War pocket sextant from 1915. These were used in the trenches, but not to "shoot the sun" and determine position, but rather (turned through 90 degrees from the normal orientation) to measure horizontal angular distance from a known fixed point and hence allow field guns to be aimed more accurately. From its general condition and the slight bend in the arm supporting the magnifying loupe, I suspect it saw service in WW1. The visible extent of the image is 3".
I've always loved these pictures. Pocket dumps. I've been honing what it is that I carry along with me on a daily basis for a while now and here's what's made the cut.

Hey its Wednesday, which as far as days go is a pretty meh one. Here's a pretty smiley photo of me from June pondering the simple joy that is a dress with pockets in it. The description on my Instagram post for this outfit also tells me that it was taken after a visit to Sainsbury's, which I can't massively recall but I'm not gonna call me from six weeks ago a liar 😊
