I had an opportunity to capture some animal shots while visiting a wildlife park during a recent trip to Florida. One of the images from that visit that I've always liked was a simple shot of a zebra grazing in a field. I remember thinking how symmetrical the stripes were, and thought I could eventually work that into a composition about symmetry and patterns found in nature.
I really wasn't fond of my original image by itself, I did have a very sharp capture of the animal. I felt the background was too busy, although I knew Photoshop could always help me remedy that situation. ;)
This was a project to allow me to continue practice my selection skills in PS (which always seems to be a challenge to me), as I needed to draw the subject away from the distracting images behind it.
Hope you like the final result.

Pictured here is a look at another of Long Island's east-end lighthouses -- The Orient Point Light. This lighthouse, also known locally as the "Coffee Pot", sits just off the eastern most point of L.I.'s North Fork.
The light is situated between Orient Point and Plum Island, and was originally constructed to help mariners navigate the waters of Plum Gut -- an inlet to the Long Island Sound. It's inaccessible to the public, but can be seen from both the beach at Orient Point and the cross sound ferry that shuttles between Orient Point and New London, CT.

One has to cross a bridge to reach Janaki Forest or Janakikad, a beautiful little 131 hectare land that comes under the Kuttiyadi range of Kozhikode district forest division. This shot was clicked from that bridge.
Fun with Fractalius Plugin.

I've continued to play around with long exposure images and light, and just wanted to share my latest entry into this recent LE series... This time I was looking to get creative using a simple Edison light, a mirror, and a little bit of Photoshop for good measure.

The Queen Elizabeth II Great Court is a covered square at the centre of the British Museum. It was designed by the engineers Buro Happold and the architects Foster and Partners. The Great Court opened in December 2000 and is the largest covered square in Europe. The roof is a glass and steel construction, built by an Austrian steelwork company with 1,656 uniquely shaped panes of glass. At the centre of the Great Court is the Reading Room vacated by the British Library, its functions now moved to St Pancras. The Reading Room is open to any member of the public who wishes to read there.
The museum is dedicated to human history and culture. Its permanent collection, numbering some 8 million works, is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence and originates from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.

First post for 2010, I am trying to experiment on the effects of plugins for photographs. This is my way of saying Hi to all my Flickr friends.
Have a great day.
[Photograph taken at City Center Mall, Qatar]
I used Flaming Pear's Flood plugin for Photoshop to create the water reflection. You can see the original version here.
They are all here:

Still trying to bring avatars into RL photographs. I have no idea why, or where this is all going even. I used the photoshop plugin at the link above to create the foggy feeling. It is a free plugin, however they ask you to make a donation - which I most certainly did. A big one!
The images, once again, come from www.sxc.hu/ and there are 2 of them this time.
The poses are by Frigg Ragu. Without them - quite frankly, I wouldn't even bother... ;-)

If they have wings, they always escape my girls. After some overnight rain, this female mallard (the brown ones are the females, the 'pretty' green ones are the males) was having a 'bath' in a puddle (basically a giant hole Belle dug in my yard now filled with water). The door was open and Liberty was actually the one that saw her first. She stayed put, even with TWO Labradors charging RIGHT at her. She confidently let them get to within about 5 feet of her when she finally took off. I had just last night played around with a new technique that is letting me shoot at very high ISO without noise, so my camera was already set at ISO 1600, hence even the water dropping off of him was captured well. What I found is called Noiseware Pro, Its a plugin for Photoshop. It removes digital noise caused by high ISO speed and now... WOW. I can go birding at high speed. I am so happy. Until this morning I never shot ANYTHING above ISO 400. Now I can go as high as my camera goes (ISO 1600) and still get noiseless shots. I am blown away. So excited that I cannot wait until my next morning low-light shoot with birds. In the comment is the original with the noise. I think the difference is clear. Thank you for looking. :)
Not a lot of information. Bought off of Ebay. In a file book. Descriptions are not correct. Dates range is the year 1972. I used a Nikon D810 with the Nikor 60mm lens. Processed in Lightroom and the Negative Lab plugin.
Shot while trekking in the mountains in Bad Gastein, Austria.
I shot 3 shots at different exposures and combined them in Photomatix and then used Color Efex Pro Plugin in Photoshop to pump it up.

Captured in: Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, ME.
Pictured here is a view of the Atlantic Ocean as seen from near the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park.
Cadillac Mountain has an elevation of 1,528 feet (470 m), and its summit is the highest point in Hancock County. It is also the highest point anywhere along the North American shoreline.
When visiting in the fall or winter, the summit of Cadillac Mountain offers the first sunrise in the United States... This particular peak is struck by the sun’s rays before any other place in the US (during these two seasons). In the spring and summer, Mars Hill (which is northeast of this point) gets that distinction.
This mountain was originally called Green Mountain before being renamed in 1918. The new name honors the French explorer and adventurer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac.*

Another rehash of an old shot that I lost while playing around with the Flickr Resync plugin some time ago.
The dropbox plugin allows you to batch-upload files into your Omeka archive, and associate them with collections as well as tag them. It can also be used to associate files with pre-existing items.

Armin van Buuren (born in Leiden, Netherlands on 25 December 1976) is a Dutch trance producer and DJ. In 2007, 2008, and 2009 he was voted number one in DJ Magazine's annual top 100 list of the most popular DJs. Since 2001 van Buuren has hosted a weekly radio show called A State of Trance and claims to have over 30 million weekly listeners in more than 40 countries, which would make it the most listened radio show in the world. His 2008 studio album, Imagine, entered the Dutch album chart at #1, a first for a dance artist in Dutch music history.
Armin van Buuren has always had his own studio and worked alone in the beginning of his career. Since the release of his third studio album Imagine from 2008 he has been working with Benno de Goeij of Rank 1 on all solo productions and remixes. He is well known for his annual "Year Mix" which incorporates clips and custom mashups from the year's most popular trance tracks. Each year-mix consists of about 85 individual releases, edited into a 2 hour mix which is released on double CD as well as aired on his weekly radio show at the end of each year. According to van Buuren, each year-mix takes several months to make, including thousands of digital audio edits and hundreds of audio plugins.
