Trying out some superellipses around the outside of an existing plotter drawing. The ring of small circles takes too long to plot, though. 4:30 just on its own, about 8 minutes for the whole plot.

Early morning at Plot 64: The reassuring palisade of ever-green oaks with squirrels doing their aerobics; 'summer igloos' well anchored to the sandy ground, holiday homes on wheels begin to stir, separated by well trodden trails to the loo and shower block...
And yes, 3 trusty bikes at the ready! The 'sawing' of tent zips cut into jolly bird song and familiar night long croaks, oh those local frogs...
The much needed warmth of a hot mug in hand and the whiff of coffee percolates though the fresh Provence air. The shadowy reminder of the task and the day ahead: the Ventoux silhouette, a trigger to kick start anyone's day.
But today: patiently, so patently, Ventoux awaits...
Plotter sketches for a new series. Studio Mode graciously let me use their CNC cutter to do these.
These particular ones are a revisit of the Ornament pieces I did for Darkness Descends. They're not intended for final production since I already have a good format for that series.

I make no excuse for posting loads of these shots. It was a nice day and I needed some photos for an allotment competition.
Although Filipinos often live in extended family units, products seem to be sold mostly in tiny packages. Meeting the day's needs has priority over long-term economy.
These little "sari-sari" kiosks are usually on the same plot as the owner's home. They supply pretty much anything you need for daily life, and often have basic seating so you can hang out there with a beer or Coke.

Digital Excel plot from the line array TSL208R output. Every 2 pixels are first taken the average signal to reduce the number of data to 256 pixels per line. The line laser shows a relatively large variation over the total lenghte of the array, but this is repetief perfectly stable. The variation is due to the light wave of the laser line. Fortunately, a detection signal is very clearly lower. This can be seen here with an object of only 1.4 mm.
The FPGA reads the results in the internal RAM and sends them offline forward to the PC via an Arduino USB 2 Serial Converter for analysis. The internal FPGA RAM has 64Kbytes and can hold 256 scan lines. This pcture is only the data from one scan line.
Readout time 512 pixels = 128 us
Total scan time = 130 us
Line laser on time = 100 us
Line array data rate 4MHz.
2 channels ADC7885, serial data clock speed 32 MHz.

Grave of William Embre Gaines at Glenwood Cemetery in Washington, D.C., in the United States.
Gaines was born on August 30, 1844, near Charlotte Court House, Virginia. His father, C.J. Gaines, was an attorney and magistrate of the county, and widely admired. William attended and graduated from local public schools. In January 1861, he attended a preparatory academy in Halifax County, Virginia, to advance his studies and successfully enter college.
When the American Civil War broke out in April 1861, William Gaines enlisted and was assigned to the Charlotte Rifles of the 18th Virginia Regiment. Reassigned to Company K (Pickett's Division), Army of Northern Virginia, he participated in the First Battle of Bull Run on July 21, 1861 -- the first major battle of the war. He participated in every battle thereafter, until the start of the Maryland Campaign on September 4, 1862. His division was disbanded by the Confederate Congress in August 1862, and Gaines returned home for a few months. He then joined Major General John B. Magruder's Army of the Peninsula -- mistakenly called the "Army of the Cape Fear" in congressional biographies and government documents. (The Army of the Peninsula was incorporated as a division in the Army of Northern Virginia on April 12, 1862.) In time, he was promoted to adjutant in Captain Basil C. Manly's 1st North Carolina Artillery. Some sources say he was with General Joseph E. Johnston's Army of the Tennessee when it surrendered near Durham, North Carolina, on April 9, 1865. But the 1st North Carolina Artillery was still part of General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia when it surrendered the same day. At any rate, he surrendered.
On October 10, 1866, Gaines married Loulie J. Langhorne, daughter of Rev. Maurice J. Langhorne of Isle of Wight County, Virginia. The couple had four children.
After the war, Gaines studied law, and opened a practice in Burkeville, Virginia. He subsequently opened a leaf tobacco wholesaleing business and became president of a local bank. Unlike most ex-Confederates, Gaines was no Democrat. Something of an independent, he initially joined the Conservative Party. But when that body became the Democratic Party in 1879, he joined the Republican Party and was elected to a four-year term as Burkeville's mayor. He was elected to the Virginia State Senate in 1883, serving two two-year terms. During this time, he was a leader of the Republican Party in the state senate.
Gaines was elected in November 1886 to the U.S. House of Representatives. He defeated Democrat Mann Page with 70 percent of the vote for the open seat. He resigned his Virginia State Senate seat to take his U.S. House seat.
Gaines declined re-election after a single term in the House. He remained active in Republican politics in Virginia, although he lived in Washington, D.C. He died on May 4, 1912, of unspecified causes.

Still finding stuff from trips we took last year. This was In early April, 2010. Kind of a cold and slippery hike, as I remember, and the mist from these large falls prevented any closer shots.
Gotta get the archives cleaned out - spring is coming!!

I picked up this plotter on consignment for $8.50. I almost didn't buy it because I figured at that price it couldn't work. Turns out it does work, although the paper feed is a little iffy and it only had 6 out of 8 pens, only 3 of which work.
I still need to get the right adapters to hook it up to a computer, which will end up costing more than I paid for the plotter. (The item next to it on the shelf when I paid for it was a 8-inch floppy for $50)
