When doing some quick shopping in a little mall nearby, I saw this accordion player.
He looked rather sad, but when I gave him some money and asked if I could take a picture, he produced a little smile.
This encouraged the elderly couple (see the second picture) in the back to give him some money too.
This a scanned image, I captured in black and white with my old 35 mm, Canon AE1 over 40 years ago. The image is of two paddleball players playing the game which I played dearly growing up in NYC (the paddleball stop motion was a once in a lifetime shot with no editing done to enhance). The park was/is located Manhattan - Hamilton Place Park on 136 Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. I chose to leave the grain in the image to retain nostalgia - everything about this scene sparks good memories. If you played or liked the game, then you can appreciate this image.

“Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Had an awesome portrait session with a great New England guitar player! This shoot was a lot of fun, she was a real blast to work with. Two and a half hours of shooting and talking, and I don't think she stopped playing for a minute!

Mixing small flash with continuous LED lighting.
This shot was taken my neighbourhood playground.
The main light is a Westcott Skylux LED continuous light fired through a Wescott Rapidbox XL placed on a boom stand directly over the camera. A second Skylux equipped with barn doors was placed high behind the player on camera left. A third Skylux with a 10 degree grid was on camera right, high and aimed at the backboard. Next I placed a 42 inch silver reflector on the ground just out of frame on camera right, my assistant hand held a speedlight aimed at the reflector to fill the players face and add light into his eyes. Lastly a second speedlight with a red gel was placed behind the player on camera right. Oh, and I also used a smoke machine.
