Two empty shop spaces on Hackney Downs, Platform 1, will be turned into an Artist’s project studio and a reading room, dedicated to displaying and selling Artists' publications, ephemera and art works. It will be run by an artist, who aims to bring critical art practice into the public realm of daily commuter travel, framing The poetics of public space and offering a place for artist’s visibility outside of the normal Gallery environment.
London Transport Museum - somewhat ridiculously - banned DSLRs from the Aldwych station tour, so these photos were taken with my old Fujifilm bridge camera.

The Lynedoch Station platforms are still in place, but almost completely hidden by greenery during the summer months.
I first experienced the seat on the ground floor of a double-decker bullet train. I'm amazed how low my eyes are.

Donald Trump’s triumph in the US presidential election and the UK’s vote for Brexit both appear to be forged out of the hostility to globalisation from those who feel they have been its victims and have lost out from free trade and increasing immigration. Both votes have split their countries almost exactly in half, revealing fissures on lines of class, generation, and region – not well captured by the platforms of traditional political parties.
At our event we asked:
How do leaders devise policies that will satisfy a divided country?
Will new populist pressures tempt politicians to make promises they cannot deliver?
How do governments persuade people to support policies whose benefit is for the country overall or lies far in the future?
Will this force a political realignment?
This event was chaired by Bronwen Maddox, Director, Institute for Government. She was joined by:
Prof Diane Roberts, Florida State University, and long-time political columnist
Lord (John) Kerr of Kinlochard, former Ambassador to the USA and British Representative to the EU
Rachel Wolf, Director of Public First and former Adviser to the Prime Minister.

Woolpit Steam traces its roots back to the “Cotton Exhibition” which was held in the village of Cotton, Suffolk between 1975 and 1982. It is a charming rally run by locals with all proceeds going to local charities. I thoroughly recommend it.
The Opperman Motocart was built by S.E. Opperman of Hertfordshire, England in the 1940s. The vehicle had four forward gears and a reverse, and was fitted with a Opperman patented "improved control lever" which enabled the vehicle to be driven whilst the driver was either standing on the platform or walking alongside, making it extremely useful if there was a desire to move it over short distances with frequent stops.
The engine was a petrol, single cylinder, four stroke, air cooled type, with a petrol tank capacity of 3 gallons (13 litres).
Nayabad Mosque is located on the bank of river Dhepa, 1.5km south-west of the famous Kantaji Temple in Dinajpur district. The mosque is named after the village ‘Nayabad’ under Kaharole police station. According to an inscription found on the central doorway, the mosque was constructed in 1793 AD during the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Alam II. During the period Raja Baidyanath of the Dinajpur Royal family was a Zaminder.
Nayabad Mosque was constructed at a time when the soil of Dinajpur had already been enriched with remarkable Navaratna and Kantaje Temples in 1752 AD. The founding Royal family of Dinajpur was prominent during that time. According to local legends, the mosque was built by Muslim architectural workers who came to this place from the west to build the Kantaji Temple. They settled in Nayabad, a village near the temple and built the mosque for their own use. There is a grave of an unknown person on the premises of the mosque. Local people believe, this is the grave of Kalu Khan, master architect of the Kantaji Temple. Nayabad Mosque is an oblong three-domed mosque with octagonal towers at the four corners. There are three arched entrances to enter the mosque. Among them, the central one is bigger than the flanking ones. These are equal in height and width. There is an arched window each on the south and north sides. Inside, in the western wall there are three mihrabs in line with three entrances. The central mihrab is bigger than the flanking ones which are of equal size. Three hemispherical domes cover the mosque of which the central one is bigger than the side ones. The parapet and cornice of the mosque are straight.
Terracotta plaques were used for decoration of the mosque. At present, there are about 104 terracotta plaques rectangular in shape, used in the surface decoration of the wall of the mosque. The platform is enclosed by a low brick wall with only one access from the east. On either side of the mosque a number of tombs are visible over the central doorway of the mosque.
