Rera room, Akan Yukunosato Tsuruga hotel. With traditional Ainu styling, clever conveniences and a 2+2 mattress-and-futon family configuration, this was far and away the most beautiful room we stayed in during this trip.
I thought the roof of this train station was very nice. This was on the way to Arashiyama, which is a district of Kyoto on the western outskirts. I debated heading out that far from the city due to time restraints, but I just had to see it.

The old Armitage platforms stopped right on the south side of Armitage Avenue, where the brown railing stops. The platforms were lengthened south of the station. The brick wall next to the platform is new but the building itself is not--part of the building was torn down to accomodate the wider platforms but the rest was saved and capped off.
Old English railway stations have a real charm and Bristol Temple Meads is a personal favourite. I have very fond memories of passing through here. I love the way the original building fabric sits with dignity as new technology is introduced -- the lighted sign and the ticket barriers. A case of "long life, loose fit?"
