New Haven Railroad EMD FL-9 locomotive # 2037 is seen while leading an eastbound passenger train on a platform track with the engineer giving a wave by tower SS38 at Stamford, Connecticut, 1968. Bob Hughes received many waves from the engine cab crews at his tower location. In the background is highway I-95; a strong competitor for commuter business, which did hurt the New Haven Railroad's passenger business. There appears to be three people in the cab of the locomotive.
The first train out of Roppongi some lost and nameless weekend morning where you go into the station enveloped in predawn darkness, still swirling in eddies of Trance, Hip-Hop & House, fuming like perfume, cigarette smoke and expensive Vodka, forgetting the 8-hour time limit on the glue you've plastered to your scalp in an attempt to match wig to hairline against the bloodshot eyes red juxtaposed to the eggshell white pancake batter smeared on your John Wayne Gacy clownface, and when you exit the station in full-blinding Sunday sunrise service light in some uber-conservative Japanese suburb on the outskirts of Chiba, Saitama or Kanagawa and all the stray cats follow you home (because you forgot you had all that bacon in your pocket from the "Vegetarian salad"), the grannies sweeping the entryways to their corner stores don't really look up when you pass anymore, do they?
In Your Face #17
Recently, I was asked many questions about the platform lighting on my Fareham LEGO train layout.
As with many things, a picture is worth a 1000 words. Here is an info graphic showing how and why the platform lights were made the way they are. It also shows a bit more behind the scenes infrastructure which powers the layout. In particular, the bused track power with multiple feeders, motorized switch machines, automatic train occupancy detection and signal control, and the network of micro controllers which control the layout semi-automatically via a CANBus network which runs around the entire layout.
The signallers were certainly on their toes keeping things rolling at busy Platform 9 during this early morning spell. First up was 60076 on the 05.50 Hunslet to Rylstone empties paused here as its route out west was blocked by passenger movements. Incidentally the tail of the this train is probably locking up the eastern approaches to the whole station! Nine late at 06.41 it delayed the incoming LNER NL to Harrogate ECS that paused here to pick up the onboard team and supplies that departed 10 late with 800108. That in turn delayed the incoming ECS from Doncaster with 800110 which was to form my departure, the 07.08 Leeds- Aberdeen which left a couple of minutes late. The LNER teams (two trains and platform paddle owners) seem happy enough at this early hour even if your photographer was not!.

On euro tour with Sean and Neil for 3 days of mayhem and a grand total of 8 hours sleep. Taking in some old and new sites and showing them some of what is out there as it was their first time. Also made time to meet up with the SPEXS crew.
This is my 2nd visit here and managed a whole different set of photos this time as it wasn't freezing and the 24 degree evening up til 1am was nice to wander around in.

Liège-Guillemins railway station is the main station of the city of Liège, the third largest city in Belgium. It is one of the most important hubs in the country and is one of the 3 Belgian stations on the high-speed rail network. The station is used by 36,000 people every day which makes it the tenth busiest station in Belgium.
History
In 1838, only three years after the first continental railway, a line linking Brussels and Ans, in the northern suburbs of Liège, was opened. The first railway station of Liège-Guillemins was inaugurated in May 1842, linking the valley to the upper Ans station. In 1843, the first international railway connection was born, linking Liège to Aachen and Cologne.
The station was modernized and improved in 1882 and in 1905 for the World Fair in Liège. This station was replaced in 1958 by a modern (for that time) one that was used until June 2009, a few months before the opening of the new Calatrava designed station.
New station
The new station by the architect Santiago Calatrava was officially opened on September 18, 2009, with a show by Franco Dragone. It has 9 tracks and 5 platforms (three of 450 m and two of 350 m). All the tracks around the station have been modernized to allow high speed arrival and departure.
The new station is made of steel, glass and white concrete. It includes a monumental arch, 160 metres long and 32 metres high. The building costs were €312 million.
Train services
Liège-Guillemins station is served by InterCity- and InterRegio trains, connecting Liège with all major Belgian cities, as well as several international destinations such as Aachen, Lille, and Maastricht. In addition to the national traffic, Liège-Guillemins station welcomes Thalys and ICE trains, connecting Liège to Brussels, Paris, Aachen, Cologne, and Frankfurt. Two new dedicated high-speed tracks were built: HSL 2 (Brussels-Liège) and HSL 3 (Liège-German border).

for 7DoS: I had a close up of the textures of the track but the train wasn't in the shot - so hopefully this will work. If not, I have a few spare shots :)

Penn Central Railroad ex New Haven Railroad EMD FL9 locomotive 2029 & another lead an eastbound 8 car passenger train over the Housatonic River Railroad Bridge on a platform track at Housatonic Junction in Devon, Connecticut, 1969. Notice the dwarf of Jack signal situated in the foreground. The track that turns out to the right is one of the two tracks at this location that head to Waterbury and beyond, plus connect with the Maybrook Line at Derby Junction. The elevated roadway on the left is Highway I-95.

Central Station's country train platforms. The first Sydney station opened in 1855 and these platforms and signage probably date back to the beginning of the last century. They're due for an upgrade in the next few years. Likewise, the train in the background is nearing the end of its run...
